September 2013 Outside Magazine has an article on Stealhead Joe.

The article is not available online unfortunately.
Stealhead Joe was a fishing guide. I won't give any spoilers from the article because you should read it.
I found this article intersting because of the world's view of men. Men are only valued for what they do, not who they are. Joe was just a ne'er do well fishing guide but the article goes into some detail of what an interesting but troubled man he was.
I think we've all known people who were very smart or talented but never accomplished much. So, how do you guys measure a man, by what he does or by who he is?
My own opinion is that a man should do what he wants. He should do enough in society to position himself to be who he wants to be.
I'm glad I found this forum. I see men who earn just enough to get by but are amazing people dedicated to cultivating themselves. I decided to ditch MGTOW and start scoring again and went on a date Monday for the first time in a long time. Anyway, I'm rambling now but you should read about Stealhead Joe and contemplate the tension between doing and being because that conflict is inherent in being a man.
