Why should we read this? What is it about? How will it help me in life?

Crappy response.

Why should we spend our time reading The Economist VERSUS something else? There's so many types of "knowledge" out there that you can't have them all. We have 24 hours a day.

I can personally make an argument that reading The Economist is a waste of time versus other pursuits. For example, I'm biased towards Business, especially Sales and Marketing. However, this is not my thread.

It's also not clear why every "international playboy" should read it as opposed to other people. Why not Al-Jazeera? Why not Businessweek? Why not TechCrunch? Why not stuff on game? After all, "knowledge is power my friend".

At least take some effort into constructing a nontrivial argument if you expect to be taken seriously.

theArbiter's response is exactly what I was thinking.

Some nobody on the forum tells everyone they should all read something, but won't even give a basic explanation of what it is about or why they should read it?

You're acting like a child. Just give a simple explanation of what it is about, and the reason why we should read it. Otherwise your thread is just as useless as you are right now.

It may very well be a great use of our time to read it, but you won't even say what it is or what it's about, so your thread offers exactly zero value to the forum.

This is a variation on the big baller troll.

Unfortunately, "Congrats you are a better person now" is no "Your welcome" or "Top that motherfuckers."

2/10 would not make into a meme.

Learning that makes me feel... powerful.

But! Knowledge in itself is worthless unless you can use and apply it to your benefit. So now I don't feel so powerful.

The Economist troll. Seen this on other boards. Certain kind of guy thinks discovering this magazine makes him part of the upper crust.

Dr Johnson rumbles with the RawGod. And lives to regret it.

....but I've actually been "opened" a few times reading monocle at an airport, coffee shop, restaurant, etc. I used to read the economist, but it seems to have gotten less relevant with twitter and online sources of information.

The Economist is actually pretty solid. It helps you understand what is going on in the world. Also, there's nothing quite like watching a bunch of people be dicks to each other on the internet.

yeah, my problem with the economist is it comes out on Thursday and I don't really want to read that stuff over the weekend...by Tuesday, everything is kind of outdated already. I'd maybe try an ipad subscription but then again I don't really read e-magazines that faithfully versus paper ones which I can just toss casually. alot of it is London based stuff, so you see stuff from the BBC that isn't covered in US media (i.e. Zimbabwe).

I stopped taking Monocle seriously when I read a few articles riddled with grammar and punctuation mistakes. Also, I always felt like Moncole just peddled frivolous consumption and navel gazing packaged in green/international pseudo philosophy.

The economist is up there as one of the best things to read weekly. I work in finance and source many great investment opportunities by reading the economist weekly. If you read it weekly you will eventually gain a good understanding of the world's economy and how it works.
