Why is prostitution illegal in the U.S?

The sexual revolution has allowed women in their prime years of beauty (15 - 30) to trade their bodies for attention from alphas. This takes the form of one stands and serial monogamy, where the relationship ends up flaming out when the alpha gets bored. This obviously creates a shortage of available and datable women young women.

Yet society continues to do stuff like this:

I think feminists don;t like men having easy access to sex. women want to control sex so they can use it for their means. After all legalising prostitution is the most logical and intelligent step.

Once government finds a way to tax it it will be legal.

Republicans are against it because of "morals".

Democrats are against it because it "degrades women".

All in all, I believe in the 2012 election women were right at 54% of the voters. And very few women are in favor of allowing this kind of competition.

BTW, I believe it is state by state and even county by county, not a federal law.

It is legal in a few counties in Nevada.

Certain states allow it openly. Hookers are called escorts in the other states. They want to keep a respectable image for some reason. Probably to keep taxes and property values high.

I think it's illegal because when you boil it down, prostitution is a service contract. Illegality is a contract defense. If prostitution was legal, either party could take the other to court to enforce the contract.

Yes, there is no federal law against it, but I think it was essentially forbidden as a result of married women locally agitating against it for selfish reasons and their husbands going along with it. However, once society allows something so counter-intuitive and strange as gay marriage then it simply becomes all the more absurd to continue prohibiting prostitution. These days, you don't even need red light districts. The whole "finding willing prostitute/negotiating" part can take place online.

What states would those be? It's not even legal in the entirety of Nevada, or even in Las Vegas itself. The documentary I saw on the Bunny Ranch was disgusting (due to the prostitutes behavior -- they acted like they knew very well they were the only legal prostitutes around for thousands of miles and charged high prices.)

100 men banged her out but got caught. Legalized prostitution gives men options. That takes away power from women trying to corner the pussy market. If there's no repercussions guys can stop at the poof house on the way home to get their jollies off. This keeps beta males from putting pussy on a pedestal, thus forcing the non hookers to stay on their toes.

Before legalized prostitution:

Her: Hey baby, if you buy me that diamond I'll give you love this weekend.
Him: Anything for you.

After legalized prostitution:

Her: Hey baby, if you buy me that diamond I'll give you love this weekend.
Him: Naaaa. I'm good.

Agreed, legal prostitution does give men more options. The reason prostitution isnt legal in the US is due to the same reason drinking on the beach is illegal in the majority of the country and our most populated state has 1:30am last call.

This is due to the protestant legacy that permeates this nation. Look at the places in the US with a last call after 4, new orleans(french influence), miami(spanish influence), las vegas( dubbed sin city). These places stand out of the sphere of traditional protestant culture. As far as i know prostitution is legal or might as well be legal in spain, france and all of their former colonies. No other nation i know wastes tax payer dollars and police resources to entrap men in street prostitution stings for a consensual encounter between adults and then attempts to shame them by running their picture in the paper. .......Perhaps they do in muslim nations but thats a whole nother issue.

Protestant influence tightly regulates behavior in "vice" drinking, dames and drugs. Basically anti-fun.This legacy has more to do with the lack of legal prostitution in the US than feminism does.

Prostitution is legal in Australia and NZ, and those places still have all the negative aspects of the Anglosphere sexual marketplace. So while it may be an outlet for some, it's not a gamechanger in the culture.

Doesn't Nassau County police have anything better to do? But really not surprising. Isn't that where Bill O'Reilly, Hannity, Peggy Noonan and all of those Irish right-wingers are from?

The other aspect is the feminist shaming - why do they have to publish the names of arrestees, when they don't do it for similar crimes like drunken driving?

Usually, online and escort prostitution is tolerated by police. Street prostitution is disruptive to neighborhoods, because it brings the wrong class of men into a place, johns, drug dealers and pimps servicing the whores.

Having seen legal prostitution in Germany, it ain't all that great.

They haven't yet. The US generally still has a strong puritanical mentality regarding sex, regardless of who is in office. Yet, abortion is still legal.

They'll legalize marijuana (and possibly other drugs) before prostitution. Strangely enough, I think if gay prostitution was legalized before straight, the feminists wouldn't care at all. It's about making life more difficult for men, as a kid, I remember realizing that as a boy in the US during the 80s, we were always over-disciplined for even the stupidest things.

This is just an extension of that.

some places tolerate p4p. cities with lots of motels that don't have a tourist infrastructure to support the need for so much lodging.

Agreed, the sex business is very alive even in puritanical protestant influenced america. Its just not legal per se, especially not on the street level. As we have seen, politicians, celebs, business men and others keep the escort/ strip club/ massage industry busy in all american cities. Like drugs, where demand exists there will always be supply regardless of any laws.

At the same time, men are allowed to pay and have their sexual urges taken care of, which is not allowed in the US besides a few counties in rural Nevada.

The level of desperation men have in the US is probably worse than other countries for this very reason.

Because Americans are Puritans.

Replace the word "protestant" in this post with "Puritan" and you've got the full answer to the question at hand.

I don't know about the UK but in Canada it's not legal or illegal. While the act of having sex with a prostitute is not illegal, a lot of the activities surrounding prostitution are illegal. Activities such as running brothers or publicly advertising about it is illegal.

I rarely read or hear men getting busted here for using hookers like you do in the US. One of our politicians from Alberta got busted in Minnesota last year and he was booked by an undercover cop. Seriously, the cops in USA run undercover operations to catch guys who wanna p4p? So stupid.

Anyway, in Ontario there is a fight going on right now to fully legalize prostitution. We don't have legal brothers like some of the other countries but you can bang all the hookers you want here and it's very unlikely that cops will come after you.

Basically this is the right answer. The U.S. still wants to be a "good Christian" country in the aggregate. Our war on drugs and many other things that are criminalized is a consequence of this.

Although, that being said, any P4P that goes on that isn't either streetwalking or a guy walking into a hotel room that he didn't book is really hard for law enforcement to do anything about...
