Yeah, don't get me wrong. I've already met a few nut cases here.

One girl I met said she would only meet me if I was going to buy her lunch. This was after talking to her for an hour and her sending me a picture of her ass and tramp stamp tattoo. Another woman got very annoyed and bitchy when I didn't respond to her immediately while talking to each other over Skype. So it hasn't been perfect by any means, ha.

Also, another very big issue here: the quality of the average Chinese girl is less than stellar, I have to admit. The majority of them just aren't as good looking as their Korean and Japanese counterparts. There have been a few times where I've gotten close to a girl and notice a slight mustache outline on their upper lip. What's up with that, anyway?

I've seen a few gems and stunners, though. But I'm not sure how easily attainable they are for your average non-rich Westerner who isn't particularly good looking and doesn't have an in in the social elite scenes. Probably not so easy.

I'm actually in a predicament because I was planning on traveling to Seoul in December or January for three weeks and see what it's like there/if I wanna work there long term, but I'm not sure if I should just come back to Shanghai again. If getting dates there is as easy as here, I'd probably choose Seoul.

As for internet, I found it to be fast.

You need a decent VPN. I used Freegate for a little while which is a free one, not sure if its still around. But in the end I ended up paying for one. I used Astrill - not perfect, but gets the job done for a decent price.

flyvpn.com is also one you try.

@AB

Yeah, all the girls I slept with in Beijing I met in clubs -- 3 from that bar-strip down Sanlitun, 5 from Propaganda and Sensation in Wudaokou. The latter joint I found much easier to pull and makeout. Yeah, it's true Sanlitun can become a pretty seedy place at night.

Welcome to China! [Image: biggrin.gif]

Girls don't shave their ladystache because they either don't have proper mirrors with the right light in their bathroom or the most common case being that they're afraid the hair will grow back stronger (common belief).

Locals also believe it's bad luck to cut off white hair growing out of moles, so you sometimes see otherwise well groomed women and men with a huge hair or two growing out of a mole. Also lets not forget guys with long ass fingernails to prove that they aren't doing manual labor.

The real stunners are almost always with local guys as anywhere else in the world. These guys are seriously rich by western standards and the girls hardly ever speak english to begin with. They're also willing to splash out on them, so you'd be stupid trying to compete.

It's possible none the less to get girls way beyond what you'd get in the west. I've seen balding square guys in their 40s getting with really cute colleagues in their early 20s, which is something that'd hardly ever happen in the west.

I've probably mentioned this in other threads, but the main problem I've had with a lot of mainland Chinese girls (in terms of appearance) wasn't really lack of grooming as much as an extremely tacky fashion sense. This can take a while to get used to. It reminds one a lot of those old photos you occasionally see of people from the late 80s and early 90s, when you just cringe and think to yourself "god, what were they thinking?"

Before studying in China, I'd never once thought I could have been turned off by a woman simply by the way she dressed. I remember a particular night when I was striking out, and there was this one girl roaming around the club alone. You could tell from all the signs that she was looking to pick up, and she made eye contact with me a couple times. I new I'd be able to smash it if tried, but...no...no way was I even touching her while she was dressed like that. It's not even that they're not trying. You can see they're putting quite a bit of effort into it, but it just ain't working out.

^^^ So true about Chinese fashion sense. It's like anti-fashion. This is ironic considering how many Korean soaps they watch, and Koreans are fashionable as hell.

BTW, does anyone else think the no shaving down there is a plus? Asian hair is different...I personally love it.

Usually it doesn't matter to me either way. Most of the time with Asian chics it's just a tiny bit of hair anyway, so it's no big deal.

It's only an issue if I'm considering going down on her. Then I'd want her to be shaven, otherwise it still feels like you're licking a goat's beard.

I'm back home now, but I'm already kind of missing the place.

Almost got laid again my last night there (on top of the other girl I was fucking regularly at that point), but the hotel I was in staying in apparently cockblocked me.

I pulled another girl from online, this time pretty hot; around 8ish. Apparently she had studied abroad in Europe and was a little westernized, and probably had some experience with other western guys. I brought her back to my place and we made out for a while on the couch. I rubbed her vag through her booty shorts. Eventually she said she had to leave because it would be a pain in the ass to get back inside her dorm room after nightfall.

I offered for her to stay over, but then she noticed a paper the housekeepers left on my table earlier in the day that basically stated that all guests need to leave by 11:00pm. Fuck. I guess the staff saw me bringing girls back to my room, or somebody complained.

Anyway, I tried to assure her that it was fine and nothing would happen right before tongueing her down at the door as she was leaving. She was trying to make up her mind whether to stay or not. Eventually I just let her go, but not before she said, "if you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to contact me." Haha.

I will definitely be back soon.

Oh yeah, I never made it out to any bars or clubs while I was there. Was planning to go to Rich Baby my last night after she left, but I got too lazy and went to bed.

Did I miss anything major?

You could've gone to a love hotel, but she probably would have felt like a hooker if you proposed that, so it's hard to imagine any other way that you could've turned it around. Next time get a serviced apartment and nobody will bother you.

Kinda local place and not a club where girls looking for foreigners go to, so you didn't miss much.

C&A, H&M and Forever 21 only made their market entry relatively recently in China and they're the only affordable international chains I can think of. If you go to one of the huge clothing markets it's all horrible designs and crap quality, with options ranging from bad to worse.

Hard to say if it's all bad taste or simply a lack of options.

How much would a 1 br apartment cost for 1 month in a logistically good area?

Sounds like you had a successful trip overall. Were all your hookups via online or did any other methods work out well also?

Your lowest budget should be ~1.2k USD, but the local serviced apartment providers often rent out horribly maintained apartments that are falling apart in shitty buildings in this price range, so if you want a sure thing it's better to stick to international companies like citadines, ascott and the like (but they cost a lot more).

If their prices are too high for you I suggest airbnb.com, but stick to foreigners renting out their apartments as chinese landlords and subletters are big on misrepresentation.

All of them were from online.

I didn't go out to any clubs or bars, but I plan to next time. I understand there are lots of foreigners and competition in nearly every club, so I'm not sure how different my results will be. I was in the mall near the Rich Baby entrance one night, and I saw two older, very tall European guys checking it out. I guess they were planning to go there later.

But I did two approaches during the day. Just simple ones. I saw a stunning Chinese woman one day, all feminine and dressed in a nice, pink dress and high heels who was lingering in front of me for about 5 minutes as I was waiting for one of my dates to show up, ha. Looked better than most of the Chinese women I had seen so far, so I asked if she spoke English. She just shook her head "no" and I left it at that. I was kinda hesitant to do day game, because I feared I'd run into a scammer or some shit.

How was your experience there? Did you stay for a few days?

I actually was staying in an apartment hotel. Which was strange because they hadn't mentioned that guests and such were not allowed until that night, and they never said anything to me. By that time I was already staying there for about 3 or so days. I also initially stayed in a pretty nice hotel my first week, and they had no problems seeing me bring back a few girls to my room.

I already booked another serviced apartment for January. Is there any way to tell if they don't allow guests, or any way to avoid it? Maybe telling the girl to go inside the lobby ahead of you so they don't know anything?

Never had that issue before. You can always send them an e-mail and ask if it's a problem if a friend sleeps for a night in your apartment during your stay there.

Which site worked the best for you?

I'm headed to Shanghai next month, but I've been to other Chinese cities in the past. I think you're less likely to run into a scammer if you do the approach since you're in control of the situation and who you're picking to speak to. Just percentage-wise, you'd be unlikely to run into one if you did all the picking, since the chance that a random Chinese female is a scammer in general is low (in an ideal world, at least!).

I plan to give the Shanghai pub crawl a try and I'll report back on it. Looks like they just expanded to include Fridays (formerly it was Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays only).

I'm not sure why you guys write off Bar Rouge. Huge crowd on a Thursday. Pretty even gender split. Great views. Lots of foreign and local Talent. Easy to approach. Pulled a Korean chick but I saw a number of other candidates that night. Drinks are expensive but I don't buy any Drinks for my girls... [Image: wink.gif]

Here's my summary of experiences in 3 nights in Shanghai...

- I pipelined CS and in Instagram (my current fav) but only one girl looked as good or better than in the pictures, could not close her that night, probably would be able to if I had more time

- wechat rules, ping girls there, lot's of them reply and u can get local info and even if they might not be like in the pictures

- tried some coffee shop approaches but english is an issue plus these girls are so shy that it's hard to tell they are interested, guess I'd need more time to calibrate for that

- Bar Rouge worked well for me at night. Glamour bar is supposedly good too

- had a number of leads I could not develop (hot Polish flight attendant gave me her number, lots of CS girls, wechat)

- in general girls are pretty but very few are stunners, I'd say most girls look worse than American Chinese girls (which I usually like a lot)

- lots of foreigners in town - so no need to restrict yourself to Chinese girls

- sorry if that's a cliche but most Chinese are rude, that annoyed me a lot, so my daygaming mood was not exactly perfect

Great datasheet OP. I'm an American born Chinese guy and I'm in China for the long haul. I'm curious about the specifics of your game. Do you usually roll with a group/get a table or do you go solo dolo? Also, it seems that you prefer dance game instead of chat? What is your usual opener for non-dance game? Without a white face, I find that girls usually assume you are a local and it changes the game a bit because you need to get some conversation in to drop the fact that you are a foreigner.

Just finishing up 4 days in Shanghai (then on to some other Chinese cities). Just a few thoughts:

- WeChat. WeChat. WeChat. Forget pipelining, day game, approaches, etc. You can leave all that aside and just use WeChat if you like. Use the People Nearby function. Have a profile pic so they can see you're White, which is huge DHV. Last night I was talking to some guys at Myst and just as a joke, I wrote "Hello" to the 5 closest females on it. By the time I wrote to the 3rd in the list, one of the 3 had already responded.

Here's another trick: On WeChat profiles, you can write which city you're from. What I found is a lot of the immigrants (i.e. from other parts of China) list their hometown. As opposed to long-term locals, I found them to be more friendly, often because they also are somewhat new in town, and probably haven't met many foreigners.

Also, since the people you write are near you, another technique is to ask them to join you. Just ask them if they like wine or something, then tell them you're sitting in a bar at XX street and come join you.

Basically, WeChat is like the world's biggest bar. Everyone in China has it, and they're addicted to it. At least 25% of the people you write "Hello" to will write back.

- Dress well. This is not China-specific advice of course, but I always dressed with a stylish blazer and a bit of peacocking. It works well. Last night, I somehow ended up at this private room in the back of Myst because some rich Chinese guy thought I was a movie star and wanted me to drink Blue Label with him. He had rented the entire room that seated 20 people, with 2 attendants, 3 hostess girls, and just him and his buddy. I have no idea what he did for a living, but I know I made it in there because I'm white and looked like I was a mover and shaker.

I left when he passed out on a couch -- Chinese can't hold their liquor well.

- You'll want WeChat on your phone (duh!) to make use of People Nearby. To get internet enabled, you need to go to an actual China Mobile office with your passport, and register. I guess this is some internet monitoring thing or something. It's 20 RMB for 150mb of data, but it's just an annoyance to have to find the office where you can do this. Do this as soon as you arrive.

- Many more young people than I expected actually spoke some English. Maybe this is just a Shanghai thing -- I didn't notice this as much in other Chinese cities.

- I did the Shanghai Pub Crawl one night: http://pubcrawlshanghai.com/ It's 80% expats, 10% Chinese girlfriends of some of the expats, and 10% Chinese tourists (like visiting from other cities). I'd say it's worth it anyway if you're new in town and especially if traveling alone like I am. You go to 3-4 different bars (free as part of the bar crawl price) and they have open bar at the first bar, and feed you shots on the bus between bars. It looks pretty good when you walk up to some crowded club with a posse of 40 people, and go right in without any hassle or waiting. Everyone on the crawl is absolutely hammered. I skipped this the second night just because I knew my body couldn't take another night like that.

I'm in China on business and only a few days, so for me it was more about getting a lay of the land and just meeting new people. However any white guy who spends 2 weeks here could easily make a killing if he has even minor game.

I guess my tip here is really to open in English. You don't need conversation to show you're a foreigner. Just open with, "Hi, do you speak English?" and that will do the trick. Like I said before you are the best of both worlds to some Chinese girls: Western flavor but with a face she can take home to mama.

Anyway, Chinese girls aren't really what I'm after. There are a lot of white girls in Shanghai that have yellow fever, I'd concentrate on them.

I never get a table. It's just not worth the coin.
