Fluoride in drinking water

There's currently a debate in Ireland about mandatory flouridation of the water supply
I think there's only a couple of other countries in Europe that also have mandatory flouridation
And coincidentally, Ireland has some of the highest rates of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and increasingly dementia as well, in the developed world
I'm not saying it's all down to flouride, but it would seem that beyond a certain threshold amount, flouride is pretty darned unhealthy, and flouridating the entire water supply seems pretty illogical to me
I'm pretty sure us Irish are taking in way too much flouride as it is, especially consdering how much tea we drink in this country!
Not too mention, a certain (but lesser) amount is absorbed from taking showers, washing your hards, etc
Added to this, it seems that standard domestic water filters like Brita, don't even remove flouride!
So you either purchase bottled water by the truckload or invest in an effective water filtration system (not cheap, a couple of hundred euro, last time I checked)

Fluoride, like Chlorine, is readily taken up by the Thyroid gland and is fantastic for greatly debilitating it.
Nothing short of poison.
Supplementing Iodide will help with this.

Guys, enough with your looney tunes conspiracy theories and drink the "normal" water like everyone else. It is good for your teeth!
Do you really want to get cavities? Don't you know your goverment loves you and is prepared to pay millions of dollars so you can chomp your food well, and be free of tooth pain!

There is a big difference between Sodium Fluoride and Calcium Fluoride. "Sciency" people will say they become the same thing in water, but actually that is not the case.
Plus, in many countries they put stuff like sodium hexafluorosilicic acid, which is a by product of aluminum smeltering into the water.
Problem is its a bitch to filter out. It is likely best to collect your own mineral water or get it delivered.

It affects the pineal gland, supposedly.

There's a good reason why all the studies showing that fluoridated water prevents tooth decay were all done in the early 1900s, and that's because drinking fluoride doesn't do anything. Half of it settles in your skeletal system, where it accumulates as a loose crystalline matrix, while the other half is pissed out. Fluoride is nonessential.
It's been shown that fluoridated water increases bone cancer in pubescent males.
If I recall correctly, Germany quit fluoridating their water because it causes serious health issues in people with impaired kidneys.
Topical application of fluoride does benefit teeth, however. There's nothing wrong with fluoride toothpaste as long as you don't eat it.
The gist of it though is that water is fluoridated because it's cheaper to dump this shit in the water supply (selling it to municipalities at hilariously high rates) than pay money to dispose of it properly. It's a byproduct of the aluminum industry.
However, I don't think fluoride causes cancer or is the reason why Ireland had health problems. For the most part, fluoride just doesn't do what people claim it does and harms some people.
Another thing you want to keep in mind, OP, is that bottled water also has fluoride in it. So does soda, canned soups (in highly concentrated amounts), pretty much any liquid foodstuff - manufacturing plants always go the cheap route and use otherwise drinkable tap water, filtering the fluoride out of it is just an expense that makes them that much less competitive.

Is there anyone here who has gone fluoride free in terms of drinking water and toothpaste for more than a few months and can report back on the possible benefits or changes they experienced ?

You can get fluoride free toothpaste for a decent price from amazon or other online sellers. Some of these are even organic.
Or just use baking soda.

Cosigned. I use baking soda for toothpaste, and deodorant.
I've been using baking soda in lieu of shampoo ever since reading that article on ROK. Wasn't aware you can use it to brush your teeth too. I'll have to look into it.
I'm guessing you find it efficient as a deodorant too, since you use it. Might try that too. For one thing, it's dirt cheap compared to high quality shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant.

Tea leaves absorb and concentrate fluoride, but new shoots, which make up higher grade teas, will have a lot less fluoride in them, whereas older bigger leaves, which are used in commercial-grade bagged teas, tend to concentrate them. Sort of like bigger, older fish like tuna or swordfish will have more mercury in them than younger, smaller fish like sardines or mackerel.
So if you get higher-end loose-leaf teas you should be OK. Also, use less tea and drink lighter brews. The better the tea, the more you can dilute it and still enjoy the taste.
