Welcome Home, Mr. BecomingMachine

So, after 4 rip-roaring, riotous months in Berlin, it finally has come time for me to return to the U.S.

I experienced a terrible drunken confrontation involving some cocaine dealers (that ended with me napping on the ring bahn- I think I made 3 complete loops before the ticket checkers woke me up), which involved me losing my wallet, passport, and essentially all my important documents.

The American Consular Services printed me off a shitty "Emergency Passport" (with a red DOS clearance number, I noticed- normally reserved for red diplomatic clearance passports according to my friend in the Army). If you've ever seen them they look like fucking tape-jobs.

I had an expired visa, no stamp, or any record of where I had been or any other form of ID.

I had a few hundred dollars worth of goods (mostly from Poland, CZ) in my bags that I had declared "creatively" at best.

What exact process did I go through at customs?

"Passport? Ah, yep. *Blacklighting* *Signs* Welcome home, Mr. Becomingmachine."

Berlin was fun, but GOD DAMN I love the USA!

Where are you traveling next? Anyone else have any SHOCKINGLY easy times getting back into the US? This reminds me of the weekend I rented an Audi A4 from Europcar with NO DOCUMENTS...

A friend of mine once lost his passport and got back into the UK with his membership card from the British Library in London [Image: smile.gif] That was pre-9/11 though.
