See that's the thing, this wasn't intended to be a battle about anything.

In fact, I was just using PrimeTime's quote as a springboard to get discussion started, I have nothing against him.

I've never been accused of racism, sexism, etc. in my life that I can remember, and don't expect to have to deal with that either since I don't have actions, writings, etc. related to that. I also don't apologize for my opinions or back down from sensitive topics.

I have just seen posts and threads come up about similar things as a result of the Zimmerman trial and it got me thinking.

The same way I've seen posts talk about false accusations of rape, and what the rise of Feminism and PC Culture mean for us men in the future.


I'm new around here, so I wasn't sure how this would play out, but there's been some insightful responses at least, I respect that.

Did some viewing of old posts, ROK, etc. and just starting to grasp the extent of the history on this forum around inflammatory threads, or trolling topics. Understandable why this could have been misinterpreted in that sense.

Will keep this in mind for the future.

What makes me laugh is that, and yes I know I do bang on and on about this subject - Zimmerman isn't white. He's a full blown Mestizo. That category needs to be inserted into the U.S Census soon. It appears in America a person's race is defined by their last name.

There are white people with Spanish names (look at Spain for crying out loud) and mestizos with 'white' (read: non-what WASP american's perceive as 'white') names. Fuck's sake this shit drives me up the wall. Don't know why really, as it doesn't affect my life one iota, it's just ignorance on such nationwide scale irritates me.

The media trying to make this a 'white people are all racist' thing is pretty despicable if you ask me, even if Zimmerman was a full blown Nordic looking fellow. Their use of that Trayvon-as-a-kid picture/Zimmerman in jail clothes is also utterly deplorable.

I don't know enough about the case to offer anything more than that, and my post is actually in the wrong thread to be honest - although this thread was about race so I offered this.

EDIT: To answer the original question, a white person shouldn't have to PROVE he isn't a racist. Not in America, not anywhere. Some people are racist, some aren't - all people I mean, not just white people. It isn't the media's job (although they think it is) to 'rat out' those who are.

I know you weren't trying to start a battle. I suppose I should have clarified.

Generally, discussions about race on the internet turn into battles whether you want them to or not. So, in my opinion, it's better not to talk about it unless you've got thick skin and really know your shit.

You can't always predict how race conversations online will go - but if you'd be right most of the time if you guessed 'South'.

It's interesting, it does seem as if Trotsky's use of the word in the History of the Russian Revolution (1930) is one of the first major uses of the term.

Here's the quote:

So, he used the word to condemn Russians and slavic peoples for believing in their superiority as a people. Yet he has no qualms about implying that they're actually *inferior* when he calls slavophilism the "messianism of backwardness"!

But it seems that the word was used before Trotsky by some French writers. And from digging around it appears that the words racist and racism really only became common currency later in the 30's after the Nazis came to power.
