Brazil Nuts

I know this has been touched on in some of the other testosterone/libido threads, but I didn't see a specific thread on Brazil nuts. I think it ABSOLUTELY deserves one.

After reading about them, I tried following the the diet supplementation that Tim Ferriss recommends in 4 Hour Body: 2-3 nuts in the morning and 2-3 more at night.

I ate them for about 3 weeks and experienced the hardest, most violent boners of my entire life after day one or two. Also was able to bust 3+ times a day, which is up from 1 MAYBE 2 times a day without Brazil nuts.

I ran out of my supply and forgot to get them from the grocery store a couple times, and everything went back to normal. Got a new bag yesterday, and I'm back in business. Anyone else experience this? I feel like it blows the effects of ACV and cold showers out of the water (for me). Check them out if you never have.

Does anybody else know Brazil nuts as "n-word toes" or is that just my white trash upbringing?

*raises hand*

My grandparents used to call them that.

They have them for decent price on amazon, compared to what i see in the store.

Trader Joe's has them at a decent price. I tried them after reading Ferris and didn't notice much real difference.

Interesting effect, americanbk. I eat them for the selenium content, but only a couple of times a week, 5 nuts with my breakfast cereal.

Too much selenium can be toxic, so go easy: http://www.livestrong.com/article/506436...azil-nuts/

I'm trying to incorporate them too after having read about the benefits of brazil nuts. It looks like Tim Ferriss has quite the influence in terms of ideas.

Nevertheless, I'm looking to professionalize my nutritional intake and besides bloodwork I'm going to get a hair analysis done. A friend of mine did this and it really helped him in finding the right supplements or (even better) making proper adjustments in nutritional intake.

It might be better to eat the 6 throughout the day as opposed all at once to improve selenium/nutrient absorption? No I don't have any sources to back up that claim.

I include them with my nut mix that I have every morning (about 150g of brazil nuts, cashews, almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, macadamias).

Can't say I noticed any difference with my boners.

Been eating 3 a day for the past several weeks…can't say I notice anything different.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Brazil nuts can be a good food to eat if you have a deficiency in selenium (which can diminish your body's ability to produce testosterone as efficiently as possible). However if you already get enough selenium, brazil nuts most likely aren't going to boost your testosterone. In other words, being deficient in selenium can lower your testosterone production, but getting extra amounts of it won't help boost your testosterone more than if you had already sufficient levels of selenium in your body. Tim Ferriss stated in his book that the only reason brazil nuts were included in his testosterone protocol was because he in fact had a deficiency in selenium that he needed to correct in order to get the most out of the other food and vitamins he took to raise his testosterone. I think he could have done a better job of making this more clear. He included some notes on this, but they are easy to pass over if you don't look close enough. I actually mistook this the first time I read this section in the book too and went out and bought a ton of brazil nuts and got back and realized I probably didn't need them because I'm not low in selenium.

If you noticed a big difference after taking brazil nuts, you might have had a selenium deficiency to begin with, in which case they could have made a solid difference in your body's ability to produce testosterone.

Here is the direct quote from the footnote Ferriss included in the book in relation to brazil nuts

This is personal, and I don't suggest the same unless you're deficient in selenium. See SpectraCell in the recources, as well as the exclamation in "Sex Machine II."

Even with all this said, everybody is different and it is entirely possible that for the OP, brazil nuts (or the selenium in them) were the missing link in the body's ability to pump out testosterone effectively. The main thing everyone should do is continue to try new things and find what works best for you as an individual while always striving to maximize yourself as a person.

I have been taking these for a month and haven't noticed much difference, although I have been taking almonds, cashews, hazelnuts and walnuts intermixed.

I will continue to take them until finished, but didn't notice any "magic bullet" effects or anything like the original poster (not doubting, just reporting my experience).
