Katie Hopkins - Masterful Trolling Recognized

She may be a fame hungry reality star, but I have to hand it to her, on four separate occasions she has impressed me. In the first case, she sat next to a fat 'model' and shamed her to her face about being fat and lazy. Sure, she's hardly an oil painting herself, but kudos for breaking the status quo and saying what everyone else secretly thinks.

After all the outrage, she responded with this delightful retort.

She even shamed a fatty on live TV by saying she would never employ one!

Of course, most of the support in the first articles comes from men, and all the vitriol comes from women, which leads me nicely to the second time she impressed me with this article. It is about women's catty, solipsistic, jealous behavior and how it is rooted in evolutionary psychology etc. Again, the support in the comments is from men, and the hatred from women - thus highlighting Katie's point.

Yesterday, Mrs. Hopkins appeared on the same show as the fat-shaming, saying that she judges her children's school friends based on their names, and obviously the parents for giving them these names. The outburst from (again), mainly women on twitter is absurd. It's obvious to anyone with a brain that a kid named "Sophie" is going to be from a more middle class background to a kid named "Rihanna" or whatever. And everyone, apart from people who would call their kid Rihanna of course, would be judgmental about it. Yeah, it's snobby, but almost everyone does it. There was even a thread on here a few days ago about it. There was a poll in the P.C/socialist Guardian Newspaper asking it's reader if they do the same. 70% said no. Fucking liers.

Last but not least, in this article from 2011, about women needing to be able to take the odd sexist joke without running off to daddy HR department - she confirms everything we say about feminism: I.E - That it is a joke.

Quote:Quote:

But I did not join in this chorus of disapproval. Instead, I argued that the entire episode illustrated the intolerance and absurdity of a twisted brand of feminism which has taken over public life. This creed, I said, does women no favours, since it treats all women as pathetic victims who need special treatment. I added that the furore showed that Britain is in danger of losing its sense of humour.

...and my personal favourite:

Quote:Quote:

Far from helping women, the feminist agenda is weakening their ability to handle the real world.

Thankfully, most of the comments were women agreeing with her. Outside of out-of-touch politicians, fat rabid internet feminists and their followers...feminism in the form we often chastise isn't really accepted by 'real' women. And by 'real' I don't mean fat!

Here she is on the BBC show Question Time debating the issue:

The white knighting by the manginas on the panel is enough to make you punch your computer screen.

OK, so not all of it is really 'trolling' as we put it. However, the fact that she manages to worm her way on to mainstream TV, even the BBC's 'high brow' Question Time only to espouse non-P.C views is admirable and I salute her for it.

LMAO in the second video look at her hamster spin when she tries to liken being black or having a disability is equal to being a fat ass...
The gall of this woman.
When i was in management i would never hire fat guys or girls. I knew they always had some kind of problem or issue (primarily with women) that caused them to miss work or be late or "made" them have no energy to perform work related duties.

I like that she didn't knuckle under when the heat came. She shot right back. She's kind of busted in the grille, but she'll still get far more dick than the fattie. Of course, this is an argument that tends to the extremes - there's the argument that promoting being thin causes girls to be anorexic, and that saying it's okay to be fat, you're encouraging laying around and doing nothing but eating. The truth is in between those two arguments. At the same time, it's more than likely that fatties DO little but eat. They obviously don't exercise or show restraint in terms of diet. Just because the fattie found a job that allows her to be fat, she justifies staying that way. The host tried to cloud the argument by talking about inner and outer beauty, and how she was miserable being thin when she modeled. Well...that's the other extreme end. And personality has no place in the discussion.

The second fattie is delusional in the sense that if all qualifications are equal, the better looking applicant is usually going to get that job. Depending on the nature of the business, you want the best presentation of your business out there. If it's some back-office job where no one really sees you, then maybe I could see her argument. In a profession where you have to interact, the unfortunate truth is people will be put off by her.

I had no idea before these videos who Katie Hopkins was but I will say man she got balls. In today's PC world, unless you are running a website or forum like Roosh or have your own podcasts or internet radio show like some other manosphere people, it is impossible for any woman or man to go on mainstream media and make comments like she did.

By the way, she did benefit from being a woman. While she got her fair share of hate on twitter and many youtube comments are calling her dumb, ugly, or whatever, no way a man could have gone on TV and say all this without being crucified. He would have been branded a misogynist, sexist, a representative of the evil patriarchy, a rape advocate and all sorts of other things. There is no way he would be invited back to do another segment. He would have been boycotted for sure.

You have a point, but it still takes courage to go against the tide of feminism and other women so publicly. They touched ever so briefly on women having license to speak to men in a way that men lose jobs for. That battle ax on the panel didn't really want to tackle that. It's okay to bash men because we're supposed to be able to handle it, while women get protection from it. She keeps getting the callback because she makes for good tv, and you need a punching bag that everyone can gang up on. It's less threatening coming from a woman. She wants all women to develop the thick skin she has to have in combating all of the hate she gets on social networks, and right in the studio.

My facebook blew up about her 'snobby name thing' today, that's what brought her to my attention in the first place. 90% of the comments were along the lines of "What a stupid bitch" etc. As if they've never judged someone by name, or another fairly accurate judgement tool!

I'd actually disagree with this. Whatever media outlets are telling everyone 24/7, anorexia is a control disorder. Anorexics don't not eat to emulate arguably underweight models. They do it because by controlling their eating patterns, they feel a sense of control over their life that they otherwise lack. There are plenty of male anorexics, and it's hardly as if male models are infamous for being "skinny".

Obesity, on the other hand, is a result of a complete lack of impulse control, and having the resources/time to eat too much. They're completely different, and not really opposite sides of the same coin: anorexia is a mental disorder, obesity is absolutely not (although it can be an indicator of poor mental health). The fact that both are on the increase is a sign of a fucked up society, more than anything.

That's a very interesting point about male anorexics and it has partially altered the way I thought about the underweight-overweight paradigm.

I watched the three videos and I must say I agree with her on everything, but watching them makes me feel like these people and I are not members of the same species because our thoughts and opinions differ so much.

Warning: If you're home, trying to relax and have a nice a calm evening do not watch that last video, the men there will make you want to wage war and kill people.

You totally misinterpreted what I posted. My point was that people take extreme sides on the fat vs. thin discussion. I didn't say they were the same, or different sides of the same coin. In discussing issues in public, it's easier to oversimplify arguments in this manner. I don't think it's inaccurate to say that when fatties attack the thin, they use the argument that pushing people to be thin encourages anorexia to support their own sloppiness. And I don't believe I've ever heard anyone make the statement you made, in that anorexia is largely a mental health disorder. I've read that what anorexics see in the mirror is completely different from reality, in that they still see a fat person. That's obviously a mental illness. But then again, fatties will probably make the very same argument. I wasn't stating my personal opinion - I was commenting on the videos.

I know what you mean regarding not feeling even remotely similar to these people. Remember though, they probably don't really, truly believe what they're saying. They're saying what they THINK the public wants to hear. Sadly, judging by my facebook, they're right, at least in regard to the name thing. However, one must also keep in mind that facebook self-polices in regards to non-P.C stuff by threat of social death and ostracization, therefore I don't even think my facebook friends are being honest with themselves - just echoing what they're friends said. This is mostly girls by the way.

On your second point, I did warn that watching the men would make you punch your computer screen! Especially the black M.P - he is PATHETIC!

I can't watch Question Time anymore. It is too stressful.

The Radio 4 version ('Any Answers') is better. That show doesn't handpick the audience (for 'balance'). So depending on which town it is broadcast from you can get a real mix of opinions different to the 'accepted' ones shoved down our throats by the mainstream media.

Ah, sorry, looks like I did misunderstand your point. It is definitely a topic where opinion is rather polarised - possibly because of the sharp increase in obesity over the last few years?

I get what you're saying, and anorexics definitely make claims about their self image not matching reality, but I still think there's a massive control element to it. Quite a few psychologists say so as well - although like you said, it's a divisive topic. A rather interesting point is that anorexia is much more common in countries with high rates of obesity. It's also most common amongst middle class+ white girls, above all other demographics, and correlates to sexual abuse during childhood. Clearly there are environmental factors that contribute to it, so the body-positive brigade do have some valid contentions. What's not very clear though, is whether thin models in the media contribute to making girls have inaccurate perceptions of their self image, or whether they have an underlying problem with their self image/control issues and the media they are exposed to contributes to how these problems manifest. Or it could be somewhere in between. One thing is for certain: male models are not renowned for being thin. Even if male rates of anorexia are only about 10% of female rates, it's fairly certain they're not comparing themselves to male models when they look in the mirror.

This is just personal experience dealing with people with anorexia and bulimia, but they tend to be very much all or nothing about everything they do. I reckon if these same people grew up identically, but in a society that glorified a 'full figured', 30% body fat look, they are the kind of people that would obessively consume mcdonald's, always perceiving themselves as too thin. There's just no way to control the way media operates such that all or nothing behavioural patterns manifest in a healthy way, because they're inherently unhealthy.

EDIT: well shit, I've veered pretty far off topic. Sorry guys [Image: rolleyes.gif]

The male reporter in the first clip said taht fat singer looked more beautiful when she lost weight.....words cannot describe my disappointment over his comment.

I hate this fat acceptance thing and the brining up of anexoria as a counter point to why being fat is okay.

Men have a 'gym culture' ot lose weight and gain muscle...maybe women should have an 'aerobics culture' to lose weight and stay toned or some crap. Would make the life of a man better aswell.

That was awesome. That essentially illustrated kate's entire point: you don't want to get a tatoo you might regret later. The woman arguing for more tatoos went and got a tatoo of her wedding ring on her ring finger and then broke up with the guy. whoops!

For people that are into body art, this is the only real solid advise that you can give them - don't get tattoos based on your relationship to a significant other. You ALWAYS regret those, because that relationship almost always ends, and you're stuck with a memory of someone you can't stand anymore. At the worst, you end up getting lazer removal, which leaves a scar, or you end up having to get additional work on it to change it into something else (like Johnny Depp, who while dating Winona Ryder got a "Winona Forever" tattoo. When they broke up, he had to have it changed to "WINO Forever" hahaha!)
