Military & Defense More: Women in Combat Marines Military Two More Women Wash Out Of Marine Corps Infantry Officers Course

Neither of the two women could pass the Combat Endurance Test at the start of the Marine Corps' grueling Infantry Officers Course.

Of the 10 women who have thrown their hats in the ring at IOC so far, just one has passed the Combat Endurance Test, and she dropped out of training with a stress fracture in her foot a week later.

Of the 77 Marine lieutenants who attempted the course, 18 failed the Combat Endurance Test.

Earlier this year, the Pentagon ordered the service branches to evaluate the standards in their combat units as part of the effort to lift the combat exclusion on women in the military.

In January, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos said “There's no intention on my part of changing anything within the IOC curriculum.”

Amos plans to run a total of 100 female Marines through the course, leaving 90 school seats up for grabs. Consequently, if a female Marine passes IOC, she won't get the designation — since the program is still considered under a pilot, preliminary status.

And so a major hurdle in the future of women in Marine Corps combat operations remains uncleared, for now. As Army Ranger Battalions and Navy SEAL units institute plans to integrate women by 2015 and 2016, respectively, it remains to be seen when women in the Marine Corps will be able to join infantry units.

Here's what'll happen, if Amos doesn't lower the standards: zero or few women will complete the training, Amos will get relieved of duty or demoted (which the government may dress up as a neutral transfer, but everyone around will know it is a demotion). They'll find a replacement who's willing to lower standards, and has learned from the obvious example of Amos that he'll get shitcanned if he doesn't lower standards.

IOC is one of the hardest schools in the USMC. I've taken the infamous Combat Endurance Test even though I'm enlisted and there's no way your average female is going to pass that test as it is. It's designed to push your mental and physical limits to the brink.

Then there's the hikes. Ever hump a 60lb 3 day combat load for 26 miles? The males were falling out. Women aren't going to be in the USMC infantry with the standards as is.

I don't want to lay eyes on a woman that could pass the course.

If I was a higher-up in the military I'd STRONGLY encourage females to act as combat troops, coming up with all kinds of inane-but-somewhat-logical-sounding reasons.

This path cannot be changed until we get the first video of a gang raped and then later beheaded female soldier. It will stop itself eventually.

Might as well just speed up the process and save total damage in the end.

I like the sound of Amos. Someone needs to stand up for a system based on merit. It's not worth going through all this trouble to find the one-in-a-million type chick that is capable of being an elite combat soldier.

This. Any woman that passes is really a man without a dick, she probably looks something like this

I honestly would not be surprised if that is one of the reasons they're pushing for females in more combat roles. I despise humanity, don't want females in my god damned infantry, but if the event you mentioned happened that would be only one logical recourse: to vent our fury and fervour on the battlefield.

A video like that would trigger very strong compulsions. The instinct to protect the weaker members of your tribe, the fact that the first world isn't ready to see women die that way, and forever ensuing a western vendetta against Islam that would last at least a century.

Sounds like a pretty convenient excuse to go forth into Iran and Syria to me.

There is absolutely no need for women in combat roles. If they get instated, then more money is going to be waste for separate departments especially for females. And the number of suspicious "sexual harassment" cases filed is going to skyrocket. This is grunts were talking about.

On a more grim note, who the fuck wants to see their women getting blown all to hell in front of them?

I can easily foresee a bunch of men "sacrificing themselves" to save the women - very regularly. These standards are in place for a reason. Anyone who doesn't meet them is not going to be capable of fighting. Surely that should be fucking obvious? I don't understand how anyone could even begin to consider that lowering the bar for women might be a good idea. If there's one place to step outside the realms of "political correctness," this is it.

Right. Remember when people back in the States started wondering why we 'surged' additional troops into Astan after being there for almost ten years already with little progress? Time magazine's cover page is the Afghan girl who had her nose cut off, thus the public is convinced we're there to fight 'the bad guys'.
