Dry Spell in the Wet Season... Bangkok

Quote:Quote:

You can definitely fit all of that in. I was doing boxing 4 afternoons per week, weights 2 afternoons per week, and running 10-15km 2 mornings per week, as well as going out every night until at least midnight and often later. It wasn't easy though, so if you want a more leisurely pace then other than the first couple of months I would look elsewhere.

I think what I need is a busy lifestyle - I'm too inclined to just sit around browsing the web and drinking coffee!

I need to amp it up a lot, so I'll check out the school.

As a random aside question, what kind of budget, baht wise, did/do you have after rent is taken out in BKK? I'm just trying to work out what I can realistically afford.

Thanks!

I'm back in the UK now (saving money ready for another year or so of training), but when I am there I live very cheap other than going out. I live in basic apartments for around 8-9,000 a month inc electricity etc, and eat pretty much nothing but northeastern food for, at the most, 200 per day (I eat this because it's pretty much the best available if you are training as it has a lot of protein and raw vegetables). My gym membership for a basic hotel gym that's just about well equipped enough for me to train at was 8,000 for the year, and my boxing training was averaging about 150 - 200 per session. I could train free if I fight for the camp, but I prefer to make my own decisions about whether I want to fight at a given time or not.

I did spend a lot on going out though. I didn't really have a budget but I was spending anything from 100 baht for a couple of soda waters up to several thousand if I was having more of a blow out. I never took girls on expensive dates either, the most I would spend was a couple of drinks at a mid range bar.

I didn't do much else but train, sleep, and go out so there aren't any other expenses. I forgot to mention water. I'm pretty cheap so I used to drink the reverse osmosis water from the machines which cost 1 baht to fill a large bottle.

Gift have you gone to RCA yet? It's a great spot to meet people. Go to Route 66 early, get a table bang in the middle outside, get a bottle and mixers. (with friends obviously.)

You can play the English gentleman and just cheers girls around you and invite them to chat. It's low-risk approaching and everyone is nice.

Ha! Yeah, that could be quite lame sat there alone at a huge table by myself with a bottle of Blaaaaack and one shot glass!

I am loving the reverse osmosis water (whatever the fuck that actually means)

Take a 6 litre bottle that would cost 39 baht at 7/11 and refill it for 6 baht.

Every little helps!

Yeah I think if I do a language course plus unlimitd access Yoga, after rent, that only leaves me a daily budget of like 650 baht a day. That has to include food, travel, internet, mobile phone, taxis, border runs, leaving the country and coming back, new visas, dentist and any other surprise costs.

Oh yeah, and going out! It's pretty fucking tight. I budget 300 a day for food. This is generous I feel. I could do it for 150. (Western breakfast at home, 2 Thai meals)

Maybe I'll have to borrow a big chunk of cash after the next 6 months are up. All depends on how studying is going, if I can pull that off successfully, money shouldn't be such a big concern.

Or not stay a full year. Who knows.

RCA - no, not yet, I've heard it sucks a bit these days but you know, people and their opinions.

Haven't seen many places yet actually.

RCA is the best place to meet Thai girls. If you actually want to, that is!

But it isn't the easiest. I don't think a guy who hasn't gotten laid in nearly two months in BKK is going to have much luck at RCA.

Gift, who said RCA sucks and what was their reason? I haven't been there for quite a few months.

Just a Thai friend from the UK, said all the decent places are Ekkamai & Thong Lor.

Gift, Ekkamai and Thonglor are great, but you are going to have to bring your A game to get the quality there. Don't limit yourself, because you can find great looking girls all over the place. Besides RCA and Ratchada, which are not my favourite places, the Khao San area has loads of great bars and clubs full of Thai girls and the environment can be a bit friendlier than the other nightlife areas (Thailandrockstar and myself have mentioned the places on here numerous times). Also Rangsit and Ramkamhaeng have loads of bars where you can find students from the nearby unis (I like Rangsit for the girls from Thammasat). Places like this haven't been quite as polluted by clumsy foreigners with bad game, and you will often find fresher girls with less nightlife experience than you will find in the big nightlife areas.

Kieran, how is the level of English in the Ramkamhaeng and Rangsit places? Any particular street or bar/club you can recommend?

Tables at nightclubs are not huge at all. So, I do not think it is lame. I will try it myself next time in BKK.

Well... I will be happy to go in there and change that for everyone!

LOLZ.

Got 'pwnd' by an 18 year old Dutch girl this evening. I popped back to the guethouse I stayed at for a bit to see my friend who just got back to BKK - she was back too from the islands. When she'd first arrived I'd taken her out to Siam and a few other major places, just to help her get aquainted. We'd hung out for dinner, met some cool folk on the roof, shared stories yadda yadda yadda.

Then I found out she's only 18. Then some doofwad told her I was 37. After that, she pretty much just saw me as some old creeper.

So tonight, she was friendly and told me stories from her travels South. My friend was like, "Go on, it's her last night! Take her out for a drink!" all good ideas but.. nah. Not to be. She just grabbed some food by herself. My friend went to bed coz he's still sick. So I thought, waiting here for her alone, nursing a beer, at this hostel I'm not even statying at? Lame. Got the fuck out of there. Saw her in the street. Said bye, she didn't seem to care one iota. She's back to Holland tomorrow anyway where her "boyfriend" (who she only just met 5 and a half months ago, just before leaving for travelling) is waiting for her. Even though they agreed to an open relationship

But she claims not to have slept with anyone. Just fooled around a bit.

God women talk shit sometimes.

I'm going to continue reading "Models" by Mark Manson - it's awesome. Here's a link to a free download. If it's not allowed, I'll edit it out.

Peace.

Gift, in all seriousness take the knowledge you've learned in the past two weeks on this board, log out and don't come back for four or five days. You're thinking way too hard about this right now.

I would take Richie's advice, get to RCA at 9-9:30, buy a bottle, set up right in the middle of Route 66 and make friends with everyone around you. If you can bump into people next to you, then you have enough social skills to make a couple of friends at RCA. Make sure to bring ear plugs.

I don't recommend Gift goes to Thong Lor, Ekkamai or Ratchada...I don't even recommend he goes to RCA or Kowsan. I think someone has to take him to Insanity (and I would never recommend that to anyone) and pays a pro to take him home and fuck him. It seems like it's going to be the only way to get him laid in BKK. Once it's out the way it won't be such a big deal.

RCA sucks...if you went to RCA several years ago and got laid loads and went now and realised how different it was and can't get laid anymore. It doesn't suck if you haven't been there before and didn't get laid in BKK yet. It's still full with Thai students who are not against fucking a farang even if there is more competition.

No more excuses about going places and doing things Gift, it's getting a bit boring now. You can sit about your 20K a month condo forever worrying about what could be and counting your pennies and convincing yourself you can't afford anything or you can stop being a pussy and go enjoy BKK.

This idea about staying for a year is pointless when you clearly don't have money to be here for a year so cut that in half, have a decent budget, and go enjoy Thailand.

Its too bad I was hung over when I met Gift, I had gone out to Insanity the night before with Luck Charm and was leaving the next day so we just had a few beers. I really should just taken him there and shown him how its done to get the monkey off his back.

I think this situation may call for a THC intervention, he's gotten so many RVF members laid (myself included) that he should get some kind of medal. No man is too beta or fucked in the head for THC not to wing with, I know that he's in Manila now with Fisto having 3somes with Filipina models (I've seen the pics), but hopefully he can stop by in BKK to help Gift out. This is a dire situation.

No one in his right mind would stay in BKK (or anywhere in the world for that matter) with a budget of 16 €/day for eating, dating, boozing, ect.

Thanks BB, I do plan on doing Thai language and I'd like to take up yoga 5 times a week for the physical and mental benfits. But first I HAVE to know how much money I have, in baht, before I can decide. My number 1 priority is my study for a year. Above all else (game included)

And in BKK there only sems to be one good school and it's mostly taught in the evening for those after work when for what I'll be doing, is exactly when I start study/work.

Can you clear this up? You said your main thing is to make money, but later you said studying is your main thing.

You said you don't know how much money you have.

650 - 300 = 350 baht / day x 30 = 10500 TB or $341 per month.

In BKK you're spending at least $2 a day on public trans.

Tourist Visa $36 for two months.

$341 - $72 = $269 for travel, internet, mobile phone

Don't forget laundry, cigarettes, clothing, going out etc

This is getting weirder and weirder. First Gift wrote he has a big bankroll and money aint a concern and now he's talking about watching his bahts and has 350B a day? Something doesnt add up here!!! Either hes trolling us and having a good laugh out of it or hes really the biggest chump BKK has seen!

Yea, gonna be a bit rough. I budget about 30-35k per month for everything once rent is taken out. I wouldn't want to only have 19k or so per month after rent. It is doable for sure, especially for someone living here and not just traveling through, but a bit tight.

Hey man, no it's about 30K after rent but I was saying if I then did a language course and yoga, I would be down by about 7K a month just for that stuff. So...

By study I do not mean Thai language - I mean my own study, my new career. That is why I am here - enjoy cheap rent and focus on career change. Make sense now? It's work/study, same thing.
