Atlantic city got a LOT nicer...

I hit up Atlantic City this weekend with a lady friend, and I have to admit, Atlantic City has gotten a LOT nicer.

I've been to AC over 100 times, never really liked it, but it's starting to change in the right direction. The casino's are getting killed by all the competition in PA and NY, but they are starting to make it "Vegas like"

I took the greyhound $37 roundtrip bus from Port Authority (gives you $25 pack in play), and I got a free room at the Sheraton with my credit card points.

They opened two outside beach bars this year. The Bally's bikini beach bar http://www.cityatlantic.com/nightlife/bi...h-bar.html and the landshark bar and grill http://myrtlebeach.landsharkbarandgrill.com/.

The landshark was a little wack, its mostly covered up so you don't get any sun, and the beer specials werent that good. The ballys bikini bar looked a look better.

Bally's also moved a ton of slots out of the way, and when you come in from the beach they actually have beer pong tables and a mechanical bull. When I walked in I was like "what the fuck?"...This place is actually getting cool?

So overall, I'm still not in love with AC, but they are getting better. The boardwalk cleaned up a lot, and I actually felt safe for once. I hit my favorite bar "the irish pub" http://www.theirishpub.com/, and White house sandwich shop which is insane http://whitehousesubshop.net/.

I still hate the Borgata, but I had tickets to see Russell Peters and ran the hell out when the show was over.

I think I've been two or three times, mostly played at Caesar's each time. Actually never made it to Borgata and never did any daytime beach stuff.

100 times? Damn!

At least 100 times. Its only 2 hours from NYC, and my cousin is a degenerate gambler. We used to go down 5-6x a year since College when he would get comped rooms...

I don't even really gamble.

My buddy from NYC won a shitload at poker (I think like $30-40k) and somehow proceeded to lose it all at the roulette table in the same night. They made him a "high roller" after that since his poker winnings were from other players and he essentially gave the casino the winnings.

He had comped rooms and free round trip NYC to AC limo service for a while there. Pretty ridiculous.

I have to say I did get a depressing vibe from AC when I was there each time...but it was never in the heat of the summer nor very crowded.

I always liked spending time in Atlantic City, although I haven't spent any real time there or anywhere in New Jersey for over a year. It's good to hear that Bally's has made the changes that it has. That's where most of the people from my town go to gamble and drink. Although Revel is the newest casino, it has been something of a disappointment, so much that the planned Hard Rock Casino project will not be happening. My understanding is that they completely abandoned the idea of building a Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City.

I like White House, but in my opinion, and in the opinion of many people, a place called Bonelli's Market in my old neighborhood has the best hoagies in New Jersey and possibly anywhere. http://www.yelp.com/biz/bonellis-market-wildwood I believe it's only open in the summer. The old world hoagie, which is made with romaine lettuce, is their most popular sandwich. The last time I was in that place, I was waiting in line and Sunman walked up to me, said, "I'm not in a hurry," and walked away. Anyone who knows who Sunman is and can tell me his real first name will get a rep point from me.

I'm definately not a casino guy, but I surprisingly had a pretty good time. The Borgata just really rubs me the wrong way. First of all its not near the beach, and it is out of the way from everything. 2ndly they charge you an arm and a leg for everything, when the place is a dump. Its almost like they try to make it fancy just by charging more.

The only place I ever pulled in AC was in the stupid club Mixx in the Borgata, but I prefer the Tropicana now. The trop has a pretty good setup with the multiple clubs on the same floor. I like that bar that gives you the 40's : )

Bally's Wild West is the part of the casino with the bull and beer pong. Dunno about during the day, but at night they have 2 dollar specials for bud and miller, and Jim Beam shots. You can get lathered up pretty good for the cost of a hand at the blackjack table.

That sucks you don't like Borgata, I've never stayed there, but always have a good time when I go. I do agree about the sucky location. Golden Nugget, Harrah's, and Borgata need collaborate somehow to build up the Marina area. Put in an upscale shopping, dining complex that can sort of be like the "anti-boardwalk" for the clientele that tend to hit up Borgata

If you're into night-game in AC like I am then the only club worth hitting up in AC is Pool After Dark if you're an older (30+) player like myself. My style has always been "dress to impress" and I won't lie when I say that I've broken my main commandment of never buying girls drinks there; it's one of the only places in AC where you can see 8's+ all around you. I have been to AC around 30 times over the past 8 or so years and that place has never disappointed. I've had buddies pull ONS's there multiple times and ratio's have always been decent. It sucks that Harrah's is a bit off the boardwalk and requires a taxi/jiffy bus so I recommend that if you're gonna be in AC just for one night to stay in Harrah's as well so that logistics wouldn't be an issue.
For some reason it just seems to attract the best looking and highest numbers of girls in AC including ton's of bachelorette parties while other clubs like Providence, Club Casbath, and Mixx are often spoiled by bad ratio's and too many barely 21 year old's.
