And almost no HIV screening is being done in these countries and Russia's Putin seems especially keen on keeping his mis-management of this crisis under wraps.

In Kharkiv, Ukraine, drug use doesn't seem so socially acceptable as compared to other places I've lived. If you go to Ukraine, you got bigger things to worry about like, finding decent food and accommodation.

I'm sure it's a problem, but I can only imagine that the western press is making it out to be worse than it really is, and that the average player is not all that at risk. Not saying to go hog wild just keep it in context.

They scared the sh*t out of everyone in the US in the late 80s and 90s about the "AIDS" epidemic - turns out unless you were an intravenous drug user or homosexual (or Magic Johnson )you were very unlikely to get AIDS....

There's a lot of PC "Russia persecutes gays, doesn't care about AIDS victims etc." in that article too that does't really reflect what goes on in Russia today. The western press continually seems to have zero clue about what generally goes on in this country.....

the bottom line is be careful who you fuck with over there and always wear a condom.

if you fuck with sluts without protection then you pay the price. its that simple.

the idea for us good - clean guys is to find good women (not promiscuous sluts) to begin with and then always play it safe. strap yourself tight. that's how to avoid this.

The Western media is exaggerating as usual in order to put Russia in a bad light.

Say we assume the worst and we double the official figure of 720,000. We then have 1,440,000 infected. Ok, but compare that to the U.S. - here in the states the official figure is 1,100,000 living with HIV.

The U.S. has more than twice Russia's population but nevertheless, twice the U.S. rate of HIV infection isn't terrifying if you're smart and wrap it up with questionable women.

I'd say both had their fair share of unprotected sex with some pretty skanky women some of whom probably were drug-addicted prostitutes who were in the 'high risk' category. Back then it took awhile for AIDS eduction to be brought front and center (but when it finally was it was completely and uttelry overwhelming and ridiculous, we're all at risk 24-7 like it was the plague, AIDS quilts, etc.)
