A group called "UK Feminista and Object" out to ban lads mags...

A group called "UK Feminista and Object" has published a letter in the UK's Guardian (left of center paper) from 11 lawyers, including a QC, threatening supermarkets with legal action unless lads' mags are immediately withdrawn from sale.

Just for those who are interested:

But these groups aren't seeking to take action against women that pose provocatively? Women aren't used as sex objects - they present themselves as such for a fee. Porn films don't depict women being taken against their will - they're acting, for a fee. Lad mags are pretty silly and harmless. They're the print equivalent of Adam Sandler movies.

The reaction I've seen to this so far has been quite negative. Even women who would usually support feminists are mocking it.

It would be hilarious if the feminists were ultimately the cause of their own downfall. Like how the idiocy of PETA has made animal rights a subject of derision in the US, perhaps UK Feminista will do the same for feminism in the UK.

I hope that even the most brainwashed will see that a group unilaterally banning 'books' from the shelves because they disagree with the content is a teeny bit fascist.

Those magazines have boatloads of advertising $$$ behind them. Ergo, they're not going anywhere.

Women choose to objectify theirselves, and by taking away these mags, they would also be taking away a female's right to do what they want with their own body. (Not that I care about women's rights, but I'm pointing out their bullshit)

Their argument was destroyed here:

More alarmingly, the feminist in that video, despite her hair, is actually bangable.

So...why didn't they just request merchants do what WalMart does? Put 'em in a brown wrapper, or a plastic bag that obscures everything except the title?

HA HA! I'm listening to the video while I write this, and he made that exact point. Threatening lawsuits is ridiculous. Because they overshoot the mark on their demands, they lose credibility. She's saying a magazine, just by its presence, is dangerous and threatening. If a bitch is threatened by a Lad mag, the problem is with her. She needs to sit down with a therapist.

I see she also went for the whole "what about the children" argument, which is the default when you don't have a real argument. We, as humans, didn't "create" sexuality. We ARE sexual animals, and some of our entertainment reflects that. Getting rid of lad mags won't make us less sexual. We won't stop looking at women sexually. These tricks need to get a grip.

I see red whenever I encounter that stupid little pixie haircut that feminist has. Very few things are more infuriating and offensive to me. I'm pretty sure there's a visible change in my face and demeanor.

Ridiculous.
The best way to treat these feminists is to treat them like little children: Just don´t take them seriously, they don´t know what they are doing.

And Ms. O'Toole (from the video) has obviously run out of things to do. Why not promote equality of the sexes where it´s really necessary, let´s say Afghanistan, or Saudi-Arabia?

Thought so.

Good work, Martin. We're in good hands. Someone email him the link to this forum, get him on board.

Emotional argument vs logical argument in its purest form there. These magazines have front covers that don't expose women naked, they're not allowed to. Even so, they're on the top shelf and in the men's section (along with cars, health and fitness, etc) so why would a little pixie feminazi be looking there to get her blood pressure up? For the exact reason the guy says, for publicity and something to argue about.

If I walked into a supermarket and complained to a woman that I didn't want to see tampons and sanitary towels on the shelves I'd get told "don't look". Exactly the same here, "don't look". She knows they're there.

Why don't they tackle Playboy? They've been "objectifying women" for years.

Women are extremely sensitive. They would censor everything even more than it already is if it was up to them. Rap music would be abolished if they were in charge [Image: shudder.gif]

I didn't want to watch the whole video, but its pretty clear that the feminists are framing the magazines as pornography, which they pretty obviously aren't. I would show her the gazillions of women's magazines which use similar images of women wearing skimpy clothing on their own covers, like Shape or Us etc.

They could've gotten a better representative from the other side because when a man is arguing against a feminist he is always fighting from downhill.

Also, the countless magazines that 'objectify' Hugh Jackman, Ryan Gosling et al. Modern feminism has to be the most hypocritical, ridiculous, intellectually vacant ideology known to (man)kind.

I loved that video, he fucking bossed her, she had no chance being a woman of even winning that argument at all, the comments the newsreader read out were even more funnier.

Tut - I have the same reaction as you to that hairstyle, I feel like I should be allowed to punch any woman that has that as in my eyes they are no different to a man.

She claims that the mags being in stores infringes of other people's rights, but when she says they are objectifying women, we know why she REALLY wants them off the shelves. She doesn't give a shit about anyone else's rights, she is just using them as a way to censor what she doesn't like.

In the UK there seems to be a current fashion trend of girls wearing lycra type pants that leave little if anything to the imagination. Since the images presented on the front of the magazines is either scantily clad women, or naked shots that have been censored, how is that any different from seeing girls dressed provocatively as they walk down the street!?

Obviously just a stupid publicity stunt for the local feminazi cult...

If they were to ban lads magazines, all those poor models would be confined to stocking shelves in the local supermarket. Are these feminists thinking about those poor girls!?
