Is 'Slut-Shaming' Contributing to the Rise of STDs?

Alright hamster, whatcha got besides the herps?

"Slut-shaming is at the root of all problems. Well, it seems to be at the root of a lot of mine, anyway. Anyone who’s ever been slut-shamed understands when I say that it can alter your sexual health decisions, erode your self-esteem, and change how you interact with both sexes. And for anyone who’s not familiar with the term, “slut-shaming” is the act of declaring someone a slut (or a whore or any other similar word, or even promiscuous, for that matter) based upon perceived sexual behavior: the clothing someone wears, the way they communicate with potential partners, the people they date, the number of partners they have (or haven’t) had, and the type of sex they enjoy".

Where I live the only people tossing around slut are girls towards other girls who are almost always jealous that the "slut" in question is banging the guy she wants. Dudes may call a girl a slut to another dude but never in public.

Typical "my decisions are everyone elses fault" bullshit.

I would blame hypergamy. Women are jumping on the same infected dicks, or infected pussy is tainting clean dick. Isn't it true that close to 25% of women in NYC have herpes, but only 12% of men do?

That's interesting, I hadn't heard that before. The CDC agrees, although they claim it's the result of the same asymmetric transmission between the sexes that we see in other STDs like HIV:

"Transmission from an infected male to his female partner is more likely than from an infected female to her male partner. Because of this, genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of five women aged 14 to 49 years) than in men (about one out of nine men aged 14 to 49 years)."

Meanwhile, it appears that most likely over 50% of gay men have HSV-2, again like other STDs.

Sounds like slut-shaming caused a lot of young men to not get herpes from her. I'm no public health academic, but I believe that correlates to a lower incidence of STD infection.

Good God! If you read the subtext, she was complaining that people were getting warned about her STDs before it was too late.

Typical Yahoo! bullshit.

"This story is a great demonstration of my maxim that any headline which ends in a question mark can be answered by the word "no." The reason why journalists use that style of headline is that they know the story is probably bollocks, and don’t actually have the sources and facts to back it up, but still want to run it."

...

"If the headline asks a question, try answering 'no.' Is This the True Face of Britain's Young? (Sensible reader: No.) Have We Found the Cure for AIDS? (No; or you wouldn't have put the question mark in.) Does This Map Provide the Key for Peace? (Probably not.) A headline with a question mark at the end means, in the vast majority of cases, that the story is tendentious or over-sold. It is often a scare story, or an attempt to elevate some run-of-the-mill piece of reporting into a national controversy and, preferably, a national panic. To a busy journalist hunting for real information a question mark means 'don't bother reading this bit'"

This article is so effing bad that even women in the comments section aren't buying it.

Here's a comment from someone named Sophia: "Wait. So is this another feminist attempt to shift blame from self responsibility? Sure as hell sounds like it."

Her argument is so ridden with holes you can stick The Hulk's dick through it. (which she'll then proceed to ride, bareback)

When young men and women are made to feel shameful about their sexual behavior, they naturally become reticent to seek advice about sex. That humiliation also means they are less equipped to have conversations people about safer sex.

Did she, or did she not, know about STD's prior to having sex? Did she, or did she not, know about condoms?

Even if she didn't which I don't believe, since when did ignorance become an excuse? What would she say to a young boy whose girlfriend got pregnant because they didn't use protection or she forgot her pill? My guess is, two words -- MAN UP.
