Lovey Rap vs. Poetic Rap

Pretty funny actually, I recently dug out a few of my old rap CD's to play in the car (It is fairly old so doesn't have an aux input for an ipod)...Doggystyle, 2001 etc
I used to sort of 'look down' on the "bitches, hoes" sort of attitude they had about sex, as I was utterly blue pill up until a year or so ago. Now I can listen with a new found sense of understanding. Haha
Anyway, back to OP topic, Drake is a strange phenomenon, I don't understand why he's been so successful. I mean, if you want rap with more substance than the gangsta stuff I mentioned, then current Jay-Z or Kanye are far better than anything Drake puts out. Drake gets this crazy praise for being lyrical, but he does nothing that other rappers can't do better.
Perhaps I'm stuck in my 18-year old era of 2004, but I'll take Obie fucking Trice over Drake anyday, that guy was decent.
The first video you put up has better lyrics than Drake. But that's just me, I prefer a wide usage of vocab rather than endless 'punchlines'. But it's too soppy for me. As for the Drake song, he needs to decide whether he wants to be a rapper or a (pretty bad) singer.

I agree, the guy has flow and Delivery, some guy named Vinny Chase. I havent heard anything else he's put out, but from this he has content. I just wish he could've pulled back a bit on the sappy ass lines too.
I kind of wonder, is it better to be a rapper with versatility, as in singing and rapping, or just rapping but being limited in what type of songs you can put out? Like, I've heard older songs of niggas rapping and singing their choruses like 50 cent on that "Officer Rickyyyyyyy" joint he put out a few years back. The day Rick Ross starts singing is the day that shit has to come to an end though.

I kind of like this one, very poetic hip hop, not most people's cup of tea though.

That's a fucking great song. I really liked that whole album, even though it is filled with anti-white racism!
