You might want to read wikipedia statistics : Lithuania has the highest numbers of homicides as percentage on population. It's just a very violent country. People were getting beaten up for nothing almost

Lithuania has a high homicide rate for an european country but yeah, South America has higher rates. What I saw myself was that guys were very jealous and possesive in Lit.

just homicides - the violent intentional killing of other human beings
Unfortunately Lithuania shows up in almost every statistic as the most dangerous country from Europe...

Wow...I don't have enough words to express myself on this thread.

Nothing upsets me more than people who just cite stats yet haven't been to a place themselves. If only stats mattered then I would be in LOVE with Washingtion, DC as supposedly there are more women here than man according to the US Census Bureau.
The homicide numbers in Lithuania don't mean much, you gotta take them with a grain of salt. This is coming from someone who has spent more than half their life there. If you look at them in greater detail a lot of them are suicides in backward parts of the country, rural areas such as villages...."accidents" such as old drunks freezing in the winter time as they pass out in the cold, drunk driving accidents, deaths from drug & alcohol overdoses, drownings (I swear everytime I go to Palanga I hear of a person drowning), and the like. Lithuanians are also notoriously bad drivers (even when they are sober) and every day someone dies there (pretty incredible for a country whose population you could fit in a city the size of Chicago). In case you're wandering majority of them happen to men and few of these homicides are against foreigners. The days of gangs roaming the capital, corrupt police, and racketeering are long gone. You can literally pass out on a public bench in the middle of a night in Vilnius and no one is gonna bother you. I would feel 10x safer in Vilnius than in Kiev from where I just came.
I would even argue that Klaipeda is probably more "dangerous" for a foreigner than Kaunas however as compared to Kiev the chance of you getting ambushed at night in Kaunas is very slim, especially if you're not being flashy and not communicating loud in a foreign language. Just ask Roosh, he spent 4 weeks there and had no problems yet he does not look like a local nor did he speak the language.

Bczalgiris is lithuanian, it is absolutely normal to defend his country. And he can't see all the crimes against the foreigners. I was personally in Palanga and Kaunas and In 2 days I saw 3 violent fights started by headshaved big locals. All victims were full of blood. I guess I was just unlucky.

The days of corrupt LT Police is gone? LOL... definitely not when it comes to traffic delicts. Just last year I "talked" my way out of 160kmh in a 100 zone with a "donation" of 200 litas. Maybe me driving with a foreign plate did help (lazyness to fill in foreign license plate fine forms) but I've seen my Lithuanian friends get away with compareable and less money paid (local discount).
Even my Lithuanian friends admit that Kaunas is a city that they'd rather avoid.. AND THEY GREW UP THERE. All over Lithuania they still make fun of the "maroza" (wannabe gangsters) type of people that are known to come out of Kaunas.
Don't walk the main promenade at night alone. Thats the biggest thing my LT friends could advice me. Understandable since I have SEEN Indian-British people getting beaten up when jumped by randoms at night.
I've been quite lucky not to get into fights in LT. I was approached by a group of drunks when walking home with a girl once in Palanga at 5am clearly looking for a fight and calling me gay and demanding to tell them why I'm in their country. I managed to turn it around by telling them a story about me being a football player for Klaipeda.
It's by far the heaviest country when it comes to "locals" trying to make sure that their women don't get hit on. You get the same in other Baltic countries but the guys don't get nearly as aggressive.
This is no fearmongering. I'd rather do 10x Vilnius than Kaunas. The center of the city is also a couple times over more beautiful and the English speaking % is way higher. Yes, the quality somehow seems better in Kaunas, but you'll have way more access in VNO.

OMG is funny when most of people speak about what "they have listened or read in statistics",because all this things you say is irreal.
I spent 6 months in Kaunas and I have never seen absolutely anything dangerous, neither during the day or night..maybe if you go to the most dangerous parts of the city you will have more probability.
I have indian and black friends who were studying over there and they didn't have any problem,so it's like everywhere.
