Facebook is now De Facto REQUIRED

It's like not having a phone if you don't have it. You're weird.

I am in NorCal and I was talking to my 25? year old Mexican grad student roommate.

I asked him "If you tell a woman under 30 that you don't have facebook and don't like it, will they think something negative?"

He was a little puzzled by my question ( I get the same from all guys under 30 who I ask about this) and nodded.

"They'll think you're weird?" He agreed.

Then what happened is the most telling thing.

He started–unprompted– to defend Facebook, to explain why it's good for keeping in touch with people in different place, the most common point people who are somewhat traveled use.

Young guys are actually actively proselytizing for Facebore. They don't know how it pollutes the social environment.

So now I'm trying to figure out the most low investment way to tell chicks if they ask ( I think I should NOT bring up Facewhore first).

One way I do this is to have pages for my creative projects (movies) and say "Here's a page for my current project" deflecting from my not having a personal page at all.

I thought being Alpha and saying it sucks was macho enough to at least get a neutral response, but now it seems like it is so mindlessly accepted you are as weird as a person who doesn't have a phone. IF you admit you don't like Facewhore, they suddenly pigeonhole you as someone who is hard to get hold of, someone who is hard to interact with etc.. and their interest will fade.

This is of course only true if you can't direct the interaction from the beginning so that Facebore doesn't come up. Maybe if you can sexualize things enough so dealing with you is a real thrill, you can avoid the pseudo-life issues that come along with Facebore.

I was on the path to deleting it but reneged after a hour long conversation with my "making moves" roommate.

In the end, it is the dominant form of networking for my generation.

I wish I could get away with linked in and twitter but I can't. And with the "sign of the times" showing me that getting a job, hell, getting anywhere in life is going to require great social skills and good connections, I decided to bite the bullet and launch mine back up.

I don't post anything on there though. No Status Updates. No Photos. No Chat.

I use it when I need it.

Welcome to the world of 2013.

The best way to use it is to be a mere observer. Don't "like" any pages, don't comment, don't post statuses. Merely use it to browse other people's profiles. Think about it, people put so much of their lives on facebook now that it is a very useful tool for getting a "read" on people. It's like girls handing you a checklist of "here are the places you can find me, topics I can talk about, the sense of humor that I like..." etc.

I've deleted and restarted my account a dozen times since high school, and it definitely has had a negative effect on my rep and networking.

I have some serious remedial work to do in those areas overall. I was contemplating starting a thread about it to solicit advice.

I am seeking employment in Oslo, Norway. Any assistance is appreciated.

Could I ask what has had a negative effect? Saying at various points in time you didn't have an account, or having a
"weak page" because it didn't have a ton of info showing you had Facebook "value"?

I can't mute my red pill/right wing attitudes. It rubs people the wrong way, but I don't allow myself to care.

Actually, the last time I deleted my account, it was because my fiancee happened to view a message from a girl I hooked up with years ago in college, once, and she melted down. I thought, this just isn't worth it. But eventually I restarted my account because it's how my jiu jitsu club/team keeps updated and is was odd not to have it. My only friends are about twenty teammates, my fiancee, one random girl from college who friended me, and one of my CrossFit coaches.

I disagree. I routinely--if not exclusively at times--game the 19-24 set and have never had it overtly, or subtly, cost me any approach capital. It's either a neutral or a positive: "yeah, you're right. It's such a time-suck. I often think about getting rid of it too."

I tell people that I don't have time for Facebook, but I do have a Linkedin account for business purposes. That generally works while masking the real reason I don't have a personal Facebook account, which is because it's for gossipy cunts to post irrelevant shit about their mundane lives.

A lot of people holla and whine about the new technology out. But I'm sure back in the day, you had some people that were hating the common radio and telephone.

They preferred to go over and physically tell who they wanted a message or pass it along through word of mouth.

It's all about how you use it and not get too caught up in it, I say.

For instance, there are some people who would sneer on the fact that we actually get online to chat about lizards.

They think, why don't you just go and talk to them, why read books and meet with internet guys about getting them?

You see?

I never got on facebook, if I'm missing out on something I'm not aware of it.

One cool thing about never having a facebook: you're somewhat of an enigma. I just showed up to my hometown at an event with people from my youth, high school, etc. I hadn't seen these people since high school, so about 9-10 years. They had no idea where I had been, what I had been doing, what I look like, if I'm dating anyone, that I was home now, or even that I would be at this event. I just materialized out of the ether for them. It was like coming back from the dead and walking into a party as a ghost. We actually had shit to talk about because they hadn't been getting a play by play for 10 years.

Same here, the only time a girl I've banged got added to my facebook was when I was drunk and asked her if I could log into my facebook. If anything facebook has hurt my game when I add people on it. Eg add a bunch of people from a party, but when you talk to the cute girl she thinks you're a pussy for not getting her digits or going for the SNL.

I've also brough up facebook and girls haven't said anything. I've been banging a girl since last summer and I always bring up something I saw on facebook. She's never said I should add her.

I used to have it but deactivated about 6 months ago, haven't looked back. If someone challenges you about it and you wanna take the path of least resistance, just tell them you deactivated it because you are applying for jobs and the security settings are always being updated so not reliable. No one will question that. It's best not to tell them why you actually got rid of it anyway.

Or just have a profile and have everything set on "Only viewable by you". That way only you can see all your pictures, likes, movies, albums, friends list, etc. All your friends can just see your title page.

I believe you, maybe it has to do with how one puts it if asked.

How exactly do you respond if a chick asks "Do you have Facebook?"
or however it comes up?

Maybe I'm coming off as a bitter loser in the way I dump on it.

I've not been on a date with a girl that's ever brought facebook up to me and asked to add me on it. The last 5 or 6 have been pump and dumps so maybe that's why but if they wanna give you their facebook instead of their number when you're day gaming then it's easy to turn it around without telling her you don't have one.

Yeah have it - have a respectable Amt of friends, and never fucking touch the thing after that.

The question is, why is it even an issue? I don't remember the last time it even came up. If she's trying to get you to take Facebook, then you're doing something wrong. And you should definitely not get Facebook from a girl either, at least not on a cold approach.

It is all how you frame yourself.

I go with a little of the "mysterious" guy thing anyways, and I use not having it as a way to elevate myself and separate myself from the pack.

I have had more and more girls after I meet them mention that they looked me up and couldn't find anything online about me.

Again, to me, this is an advantage.

It only comes up in my experience when they try to look you up.

IKE - for a well travelled man like yourself it would be a good tool. I would put down places you have visited and some cool pics you have taken or in your case some of your projects.
You can have a page but doesn't mean you have to put a bunch of nonsense on it. I agree it is great to get a read on a girl, on the flip side when I meet a girl/woman who does not have it I am more intrigued.

Pure craziness.

In my 20's, a total of zero times I have gotten hurt from not having Facebook.

"Yeah to be honest I like to get to know people in real life, I can Instagram our text messages if you want to upload that to your Pinterest account and vet me infront of you 7,000+ followers on twitter".

If the girl is trying to vet you = either A. Weak game or B. she isn't that attracted to you and wants to dig through your account = again see point A. Facebook is similar to online dating = "vet vet vet" annoying.

If Facebook is cockblocking you, don't blame Facebook, blame yourself.

I quit FB about 2 years ago and I have not looked back. It has never been an issue with new people I meet. If anything FB is passe.

I'm thinking about getting a rotary phone and putting it on the kitchen wall.

I was even contemplating getting rid of electricity. But than I don't know how I would iron my underwear? I guess I could dry clean it.

I don't see any disadvantages to having a facebook. If you're worried about your privacy it's easy. Just don't put your number, birthdate, address, etc.

But having photos with people and a large quantity of friends will surely help.
