Getting hate for hitting the gym

I once read somewhere that people admire the awesome things they see but much less when they see all the work that was put in it for it to become awesome. When a girl who doesn't know your habits of eating and exercising says something about your physique the best thing would probably be to say that you always had a good body since you were a kid, have good genes, your father was the same and shit like that.
For some people it's like watching a magician do his trick and be stunned by it and then some smart ass shows them a youtube video of someone explaining how he did it.Breaking the fantasy.

The hate for my food choices at work got so out of hand that HR called me down there because they're worried about my eating habits.

The sad thing is that HR is exposing the company to high liability by doing that. Shitty HR person.

The 30th Law of Power right there (Make your accomplishments seem effortless). I stopped valuing other peoples' opinions of my lifestyle choices a long time ago since they tend to be absolutely clueless as to how much effort and dedication it takes to achieve a high level of fitness and a good physique. What really pisses me off is when people (especially dudes) say shit like "I don't wanna get too big/bulky" or "I just wanna get toned," like it's some fucking accident or by-product of entering the gym and lifting weights. If I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I'd be a wealthy bastard. Nowadays when girls inquire about my gym/eating habits, I just respond with something tongue-in-cheek like "It's funny, because I actually don't even work out."

Aight, so it seems to be an international thing. A quote from the late Gore Vidal comes to mind: "Whenever a friend succeeds, a little something in me dies.".

This right here. I've heard it so many times, it's unbelievable. I might have put on 10 hard pounds of hypertrophy in the year that I've been lifting and I am getting so fucking tired of hearing people say shit like this. I told my uncle to quit his long distance running thing (he wakes up every morning to jog about 5 miles) and to lift weights and sprint instead. His response was that he didn't want to get "musclebound". I've been going to the gym regularly for a year and I have yet to become "musclebound".

Pretty much my go-to response (besides DYEL?) from now on if anyone mentions that kind of nonsense again (Don't call your uncle a motherfucker, but you get the point lol).

One time I pulled a girl in the club and driving back to mine. We passed the 24hr gym... she laughed and said think of all these muscleheads working out (like they're idiots)....

Funny thing is I am a pretty serious gym rat and it ain;t hard to tell.

In NYC you get this.

I have had this basic discusison many times, usually with overweight unathletic people whose main hobbies are drinking and watching tv:

A: You know that protein powder stuff is dangerous
B: No it's not
A: You don't need it, it's not good for you
B: It helps your muscles repair after a workout
A: But you can just eat food. Doesn't Tofu have enough protein? (NYC fatties love tofu)
B: This is more easily digested and available more quickly
A: Yea but you shouldn't work out that much, you should just run
B: Running hurts your knees, and I don't need to lose weight
A: But your heart health
B: Lifting weights gets your heart rate up just like running
A: Hmm....

One of two things are true, either:

A.) Girls are too stupid to realize you don't get jacked without serious time and effort in the gym

B.) Girls know this but act like they don't know.

Either way, it's absolutely retarded. But girls for some reason hate the wiff of effort on anything. They want to imagine you learned a foreign language like it was nothing, that you're naturally jacked, that you make money without working hard, etc. Or something

They love the end result tho...

Yep, people in general hate hate hate to see someone invest hard work in something, and it's even worse if it results in benefits. But flashing benefits while sparing them the neccessity of hard work is somehow impressive for them. And women are the worst in the hate.

This extends to anything, not just the gym. Foreign languages are a good example.

I'd say that just flashing them the results while lying to them about the way you got the results (I've always been athletic, no need to work out; I went to Spain a couple of times so I speak Spanish) is the way to handle this. Personally, I never could do that, it breaks some code inside me to not tell the truth. I guess it's Beta.
