Kiev April

I am considering going back to Kiev for a month. It would be good to have the option of a wing this time. If anyone is thinking about it let me know.

I'm in Lviv, but dude Lviv is way better Kiev, at least the vibe and the cost.

What's the vibe like there? I'm heading back to Europe from Moscow in the next few days and thinking of going via Lviv.

How are costs? Russia is ridiculously expensive for the level of service.

Kamaki nailed it the last time on this when he basically said that the Rouble was artificially supported by the exchequer from the proceeds of oil and gas. Russia is also building up it foreign cash and gold reserves after they took a hit in the initial financial crisis of 2008-09.

Alot of consumer items and footstuffs are expensive in Russia due to transportation costs. Before under Central Planning, Gosplan set the prices and supply of goods which enabled to keep prices low but sucked up vast quantities of tax payers money. In Russia now no such price controls exist meaning that inflation (running at +6% p.a.) is much more noticable.

I don't mind paying good money IF I receive good service in return but here in the provinces I'm paying good money in return for shite. My hotel in the town of Kotlas is costing me £50 a night. However the bed has no fucking sheets and the hotel's club has been blasting music all night keeping me awake ( it's 4:50 am as I write this and the thudding is still rattling my windows ). Taxi drivers are trying to rip you off all the time. The people are rude in restaurants. Last night I asked the waitress to speak more slowly so I could understand her and she said something along the lines of 'you're in my country,I'll speak however fast I want'. They're rednecks out here. I had to come to see it but it's the last time I'll ever hit the shitholes of Russia. I'll be back in Moscow tomorow, thank god!
