Chronic Fatigue Cures? Anyone?

Man, sometimes I just can't get the energy to do the things I want to do. I just feel physically tired. I know you need to get proper sleep which, even when I do, many times I still feel tired. This gets in the way of the activities and things I want to accomplish. Any ideas, supplements, treatments, foods, activities, modalities, etc that you guys know of that can help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you don't have low blood pressure, or a low sugar level, its most likely anxiety...

I thought I had some kind of chronic fatigue thing going on. But then I realised that I'm an introvert (even though I am not shy and am outgoing). Which means I get exhausted and need to recharge my batteries when I have spent alot of time around people.

You are probably different. But it is a useful thing to be aware of since exhaustion can sometimes be a psychomatic reaction to something else. At least it was for me. I still get tired and stuff - but now I can distinguish between when I just need to be alone to recharge my batteries. And when I am tired for some other reason.

Three things help me out of my energy slumps.
-Vitamin D supplements (or just use fish oil, I think it has tons of Vitamin D in it)
-Eating breakfast and getting to sleep before 10PM, and waking up at around 4:30 -5:30 AM.
-Never sleeping more than eight hours in a row. Too much sleep is a problem, somehow.

Usually if I have no energy for days or weeks at a time it's due to a metabolic issue from fasting, or I have throat inflammation which interrupts breathing while I sleep (snoring all night is exhausting and you'll never get enough rest). I get the occasional sinus infection.

One thing that will put you to sleep is 20 rep squats. Those are murder.
Interested in what Capt'n Power has to say considering I have nigh-reptillian blood pressure. My doctor was kind of flabbergasted that a slightly overweight guy who smokes and drinks had such low blood pressure and low resting heart rate. Sprints, baby.

I feel the same way pretty often. It usually has to do with me being a child of summer and solar powered, so it goes away in spring.

But out of curiosity, what is a good idea for somebody with low BP? I'm usually around a 110/60.

Vitamin D, in the winter if your white, year round if your not. If you are really serious you should get your blood tested for vitamin deficiencies too.

Watch your carb/fat/protein distribution. Increase the % going to fat and protein if your eating a lot of carbs. Avoid office drone eating habits at all costs.

Do a short workout right after you wake up. 50 push-ups should do it.

Its usually anxiety, thats why a lot of house wives get it. I used to have some days at work when I was tired, and thinking about jumping off my building, and it makes me feel as tired as shit.

But as soon as I got off the train back in Brooklyn I would run 5 miles with super energy. After a while I realized it was all in my head, just work anxiety/depression. Try to keep a schedule where you work out/sleep at the same time everyday, and the routine will be easier to follow.

Low blood pressure/low blood sugar would be the only reason for some people to be "always" tired.

If you are getting enough sleep, then I would say it's from stress.

I have that problem a bunch too. Too often I just feel like I'm sapped out and don't want to/can't do much work. It feels like some combination of fatigue and just pure laziness.

What has helped me a bit are zinc supplements and apple cider vinegar (this board has two huge threads on those two things), getting more exercise, and abstaining from masterbation

You're probably not getting a deep enough sleep at night. You should feel drained and exhausted at bedtime and wide awake and refreshed in the morning.

You need to kick up your exercise. An hour of weights in the morning and an hour after dinner.

Take a multi-vitamin with breakfast.

During many years this was a real problem for me, solution was get a more fixed routine, always sleeping around the same time and wake up early to run 15-20min

This

Set a regular routine of going to bed and waking up around the same time preferably as close to sunset and sunrise as possible which is natural.

Also how is your diet?

eating tons of carbs at once or eating a big meal often times will make you crash as it spikes your insulin. I know when I eat a whole chipotle burrito full of rice I almost fall asleep like 30min later same goes for eating a lot of pizza. If you drink a lot of caffine or stimulants sometimes you feel sluggish without them too so limiting those to only when you need them for things like working out might help too

I know exactly what you mean, it sounds like you may have adrenal fatigue.

Quote:Quote:

Tired for no reason?
Having trouble getting up in the morning?
Need coffee, colas, energy drinks, sodas, salty or sweet snacks to keep going?
Feeling run down and stressed?
If you answered “yes” to these questions, you may be experiencing adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue occurs when adrenal gland function becomes less than optimal—usually as a result of stress. It is not the same as Addison’s disease. An estimated 80% of people experience adrenal fatigue and the physical symptoms of stress at some point in their lives, yet it is frequently overlooked and misunderstood by the medical community.*

In 1998, Dr. James L. Wilson coined the term ‘adrenal fatigue’ to identify a specific kind of chronic tiredness that many people experience. It can affect anyone who undergoes frequent, persistent or severe mental, emotional or physical stress. Adrenal function can also be an important factor in health issues ranging from allergies to obesity.*

Lots of good recommendations in this thread. Excercise, proper diet (low in carbohydrates), vitamin d, fish oil.

They actually have specific adrenal health supplements, and some of the reviews are pretty great. I'm no expert, so I'd suggest you do your own research and experimentation, and see what happens. If it works out well you might even want to think about posting up a data sheet.

Best of luck!

Have you ever tried one or know anybody that has tried adrenal health supplements?

Some guy at a supplement store was trying to sell me on some supps that he said would help you recover and reduce your tolerance from taking preworkout and it would allow you to be more sensitive to caffeine and other stimulants.

Not sure if that is the same thing as adrenal health supps but it would be interesting for someone to shed some light on if these actually work

Here is a nice simple tip.

Change your socks.

Putting on a fresh pair of socks half way through the day gives you a hit of relaxation, and an energy boost.

It is worth doing when you are at work if you feel you are flagging. I am not sure exactly why it works - but I know the feet are an importannt part of the body when it comes to massage and so on. It seems when your feet are feeling good, so will the rest of your body soon after.

Would love to know any other simple ways to boost energy. People talk about Red Bull but it doesn't do much for me. It seems mostly a placebo.

Clammy socks really bother me. I prefer to go sockless whenever possible. Can't explain why this is either. But putting on a fresh pair feels great.

Same here. The first thing I do when I come home is take off my socks and put on slippers. I can't imagine doing otherwise.

Ummmm... get a full workup from a qualified medical doctor?

I was feeling shitty, luckily I had health insurance, and found out what was wrong with me.

I know all you guys are smarter than the body of medical professionals who have been studying this for hundreds of years with resulting thousands of man-years of accumulated knowledge, and doctors are all co-conspirators with the evil medical industry, but maybe just a few of them learn something in years of intensive study.

I have also found nurse-practitioners who were great and scientific, they were less arrogant then some of the MDs. Also you might want to get a recommendation from someone who is a health care professional as they might know who is higher level.

A lot of the medical professionals I know tell me, in general, to avoid doctors. Most forms of "treatment" in this country are just some form of equivalent exchange between whatever ails you and your liver.

Mind the basic maintenance of your body, and don't trade what you have for a half promise to keep your carcass running for a few extra months when you're just about to die, anyway.
