There is a famous phrase: "familiarity breeds contempt". Psychology claims that there is an actual physical process behind this with the brain's sensitivity to little annoying gestures/ habits getting amplified by repetition (similar to a slight needle prick that gets more painful if received in the same spot over and over again).
Do any of you guys struggle with this? I have noticed that girls I see regularly quickly become annoying to me and I can't stand their predictable sayings, smacking noises, ticks (like stroking their hair) anymore. I literally need to get away from them for a few days at that point. I wonder if I am an outlier or if this is widespread and if so, how do people actually stand being around a spouse 24/7 (worst case scenario if they are retired or on vacation)?
