I just finished reading Hooligan Harry's recent post over at the Return of Kings blog (http://www.returnofkings.com/5705/why-se...-important) and it really resonated with me, as usual, another great article by Harry. The reason that the article impressed me is because it accurately describes some of the experiences I've had in the past couple of years with my work/travel lifestyle. I'll break this down as it relates to my life:
Ratios: As some of you know, I work in Canadian oil sands in a city called Fort McMurray, which according to the latest census data, is the biggest sausage fest in Canada, the data shows that the ratio is almost 2:1 male to female. (http://www.finance.alberta.ca/aboutalber...monton.pdf
Not only is the M/F ratio very high, the majority of the men in the area are young guys of working age, 18-40, which is competition for any guys trying to meet women there. As Harry states "When ratios favor women, the end result will be highly picky women with bitch shields a mile high, even though looks-wise they would be considered very average." Well that is the town where I live in a nutshell but its even worse, the guys in this town have more money than brains and game so you can imagine what its like there, girls' expectations and standards are through the roof and the guys bend over backwards for them and spend lots of money on them. I'm just not one of those guys, I know what else is out there and I'll be damned if I waste my hard earned money on such a shitty ROI.
So what is a guy to do? Well, me personally, I get the fuck out of that poosy purgatory with my cash and then go travel somewhere I know the odds are much better that I will get laid on a regular basis, a poosy paradise, if you will.
Location: I'm currently in the Philippines which some guys consider to be "the easiest place in the world to get laid". I mostly agree, as I've done quite well since I've been here and as Harry writes"... it’s just that there are so many hot women the ratios begin to skew in your favor and this gives you more opportunities with hotter women."
I'm not sure what the local ratio is here in Dumaguete, Philippines but the city's population is similar to Fort McMurray's, both are about 100K. Obviously a major difference is the sheer amount of young women walking around here and their attraction to foreign men. I agree with Harry that in many places, being foreign can be a disadvantage, I witnessed this in Thailand and Colombia but I don't think that this is the case in the Philippines. The people have been so nice and welcoming and the girls receptive to myself and some of the other forum members, that I believe that being a foreigner, especially a younger guy, is definitely an advantage in the Philippines, but of course, being foreign will only get you so far.
Level of game: "If you are not hitting new ass regularly at home, getting on a plane is not going to going to solve your problems either." I'm seeing this first hand here in the Philippines with my buddy who came over here for a month to travel and dive with me, I hate to use the B word to describe my friend but this guy is quite beta. He's recently divorced and wanted to come visit me so I invited him to come, I'm glad he did as we are having a good time but this guy is so bad with women, its embarrassing.
Filipinas are generally very nice and forgiving of anyone who makes the odd social blunder but my friend has some issues with communicating with women (I'd have to start another thread to fully explain it, maybe I will) and the girls here sense it. However, I opened up some girls tonight and we had drinks, at the end of the night I told the girl who was talking to him the most (there were 4 of them) to put his number in his phone before leaving. That is how stunned he is with women, it seemingly just didn't occur to him to even ask her, so I had to do it for him. There's more stories but I'll get into that another time.
Reversal of roles: When I was recently in Thailand, a girl who I work with in Canada came to visit me and we spent a month together travelling, and what occurred was just what Harry described, "When the shoe is on the other foot however, women are forced to deal with slimmer pickings and their attitudes will adjust as a result."
This girl is 26 and could definitely lose about 10 kilos (20 pounds), she was probably a 6 when she was younger but I'd rate her a 4 now. Because she lives in Fort Mac, she thinks that she's an 8 and sure enough, she dates a screws (a lot) of guys who are way out of her league, she's constantly hit on, taken out on dates and rarely has to pay for drinks when she goes out to the bars in Fort Mac.
In Thailand, she wasn't hit on, this slut went 4 weeks without sex, probably the first time since she was 14, haha. Actually, the only time that she was hit on was by a drunk Aussi guy at The Club on Koa San Road. When she got back home, she messaged me on facebook saying "I finally got laid, picked a guy up at a club" haha, atta girl!
I actually had a decent time traveling with this girl as we're pretty good friends but she said some things that made me want to give her a good Muay Thai elbow in the throat, one of them being "you only travel here because you can get laid easier than back home, you don't get laid that much in Fort Mac". My reply was "yeah, no shit Sherlock, and actually I had a girl in Fort mac", to which she replied "ya, a girl from the Philippines"(you can imagine the tone she said that in). I was biting my tongue pretty hard and wanted to tell her that I'd rather bang a cute little Filipna girl than her fat ass (which is 100% true) but she's overly sensitive so I just let it go. The dumb bitch just doesn't get it and thinks that Asian women who go for western guys are only motivated by money (which, to a certain extent is true, but aren't all women?) she doesn't consider, as Harry puts it, (foreign women) "They are, simply put, far better to spend time with on average and far more pleasant to fuck.
I think that all western men who are fortunate enough to travel have similar experiences to what I'm writing about here, its just that mine may be a more extreme example of how bad and how good ratios affect us guys in the dating market, as Harry aptly put it, "In the end you must ask yourself this question: Why would any sane man want to spend his weekends at an over-fished pond that has been ravaged by pollution, chasing the legend of the big cat fish in the deep, when he can just jump on a plane and spend a few weeks chasing big game instead?
