Finding other cool guys to travel with.....

when you edit a post, does it come back to the top of the updated post list? Otherwise the thread will be lost down in the weeds.

I think a better way to do it would be like this: create a travel thread for each region/country.

So for instance, create an official "Brazil Traveler Thread" -- Everybody who either is currently in Brazil or plans on going to Brazil soon posts there with their dates, their cities, and some basic personal info about themselves.

Then you have the "Eastern European Traveler Thread," the "SE Asia Traveler Thread," "The Phillippines Traveler Thread," etc.

I still think just creating a sub-forum for all of them would be best. Just sticky them all and ppl can post and reply as new ppl travel there.

Thoughts?

I'd love this, as I'm in the same boat as clr. I've been traveling pretty much non-stop for a year now, mostly on my own. But my best times by far were when I had friends or just random cool guys to hang with.

I like the idea of sub threads... countries wouldnt really cut it because it seems most of us like to hop around.

Like a who is/going where: Category
Maybe 3:

South/Central America
Asia
Europe

I would want it broader than that, because I'm going to the States soon and would like to hook up with people

perhaps
Americas
Asia/Oceania (to cover Australia/NZ)
Asia
Europe/Africa (can't Imagine many of our crowd in Africa though)

Mind you, there are probably so few people who will be updating it (20?) that perhaps one thread would be sufficient.

Throw US/Canada onto that list for all the euros then yeah.

Ideally it should be a sub forum inside the Travel forum, with thread starters per city. The point is to see who is or will be in a specific location at a time you are there. When someone posts something for that city, that OP gets bolded and moved to the top as is the functionality now. Just because you are in a specific region doesnt mean you are going to a specific city or country. If the thread is lets say "Central-South America", if someone posts about being in Colombia that thread gets flagged as having a new post and I would have to check the thread even if I dont plan to go there. If there are guys in Buenos Aires who dont plan to go to Cordoba, this info is not going to be significant to the guys in Cordoba who dont have plans to go to BA, and vice-versa.

Really, how hard is this to do? We can start with just the main cities we have been talking about here. When posting, first search for an OP or thread starter for the city you have in mind. If there is none, create one.

I am by no means financially self sufficient at the moment, but after I graduate I am planning to reach Brazil/Argentina by December 2010. I'm stoked to find other people who are down to rough it in a hostel or on a beach for the night, but won't hesitate to throw down to rent a boat or or a house for a few days. I'm definitely down to catch up with anyone in the area around the same time.

Demok can you pm the password my way as well..
