Seems to be a damage control mentality. They will never believe a woman is satisfied with them, so the only way to guarantee her fidelity is to see the evidence of her getting all her needs met. Really fucking wacky.

I guess when your wife has gained 100 lbs. since the nuptials, this is one (admittedly freakish) way of convincing yourself she's still attractive.

I will never understand the psychology behind this, but hey, it apparently works for some dudes.
