Facebook = Miserable
Studies are starting to be conducted on social networking and are coming up with conclusions that should be no surprise to the guys on this forum. The younger generation(12-20) has spent their entire postpubescent lives on facebook. I know of girls as young as 13 attention whoring by posting suggestive pictures of themselves on these sites, eliciting a flurry of likes and comments like "Hot!" and "Sexy mama" from dweeby looking guys and the other members of their respective knitting circles. The effects of being glued to a computer/cell phone for more than 10% of your entire waking life are unknown right now but probably include depression, anxiety and the other side effects that are the symptom of any addiction. The study focuses on people comparing their lives to their friends. If a girl watches tv and sees glamorous people doing glamorous things she is more likely to be dissatisfied with her own situation. Likewise facebook stalking acquaintances will bring a girl into contact with a carefully sculpted profile that shows only the most glamourous or exciting moments of other peoples lives.
America already produces girls who can't cook, can't keep themselves skinny, have too much self esteem and are miserable. Hopefully there will be a backlash against this insanity soon.
