Juicing vs Blending

Juicing vs Blending

Been looking to buy a juicer but I find it hard to drop $100 on a good one if a $20 blender will give the same benefit.

Which do you guys prefer?

Juicing:

Juicing is a process which extracts water and nutrients from produce and discards all the fiber. Without all the fiber, your digestive system doesn’t have to work as hard to break down the food and absorb the nutrients. This is especially helpful if you have a sensitive digestive system or illness that inhibits your body from processing fiber. The fiber in produce helps slow down the digestive process and provides a steady release of nutrients into the blood stream. When you remove the fiber from the produce, the liquid juice is absorbed into your blood stream all at once causing a spike in blood sugar. Unstable blood sugar levels can lead to mood swings, energy loss, memory problems and more! Fiber is also filling, and without fiber in the juice, you will be hungry again quickly.

Blending:

Blending is the process of finely chopping up the entire fruit or vegetable, skin and all, to produce a smooth consistency. Blending produce leaves all the fiber in the mixture, which helps create a slow, even release of nutrients into the blood stream and avoids blood sugar spikes. The fiber in smoothies also helps you feel full longer! By including the fiber in your smoothie, the volume will increase. You can pack more servings of fruits and veggies into a single serving of juice than you can into a smoothie.

I love blending. I just find it an easier get calories in my body as opposed to eating it.

I'm no expert... But wouldn't blending fruits (smoothies) and juicing vegetables be a good compromise, if one is finding it difficult to pound back those really healthy vegetable smoothies?

It just seems like they're hyping up juicing a lot lately when you can get the same benefit from using a basic blender.

Just get the blender. But buy a good one and make sure the blades reach all the way to the bottom. Some of them have a huge gap between the bottom and the blades. This leaves big chunks below and if you aren't paying attention when drinking out of the blender you might choke a few chunks down.

A juicer will give you a much smoother liquid thats easier to drink. I juice mainly veggies so they are often not the most flavorful. I add small bits of fruit but I don’t wan to take in a lot of sugar.

Here's what I drank last night:

1 Tomato
1 Red Pepper
1 Beet
3 Carrots
1 Lemon (unpeeled)
1 big nub of ginger
1 Orange (peeled)

This was through a juicer.

Would someone actually just throw all those things into a blender? It seems like it would be a thick soupy mess, but maybe I'm wrong.

Agree. On my juicer I have two extractors. Pulp and non pulp. I can't stand pulpy and it's only slightly to moderately worse then orange juice with pulp. I could hardly finish 6 oz of the stuff. However when all the pulp is gone I can pound 16-20 oz and it tastes great. The blender will probably make it chunky and hard to drink.

With the juicer I get it in a easier to drink form. Plus with the left over pulp I can still keep it and mix it into an omlette or ground beef.

Juicing is good and the juice is really potent tasting but the problem I find is that juicers take forever to clean and I really lack the motivation to always have to clean it and the whole process of making juices and cleaning takes me like 30min. I recently just bought a Nutribullet and the thing is amazing! smoothies are obviously thicker but I think they fill you up more and it takes me about 10 seconds to rinse out the cup when Im done so doing it everyday is easy.

How is a Nutribullet better than a quality blender?

I wouldn't say that it's better.

It is designed so that it turns into a cup. More of a novelty I guess. It's good for the price and does the trick.

Its not better per say blending but its much faster smaller and easier to clean up. Like a vitamix or blendtec is a much better blender but they are bigger and bulkier and can cost a couple hundred dollars and if your like me and dont like to spend time cooking or making any food/smoothies/juices the nutribullet is fast and easy to do so your more likely to stick to doing it everyday or how often you want to

I just got a Vitamix and it is amazing. I had been using a regular blender and it made a chunky mush. Now I can pack way more veggies into the vitamix and they are completely liquified. Plus it can make hot soups and other foods. I'm interested in eating more whole foods so this choice was a no brainer for me.

A cheap vitamix seems to go for $400. A cheap juicer is like $40. A cheap blender is like $20.

Nutri-bullet is good if you don't want to spend $400 on a Vitamix then.

This is something I've been looking for. If he had a calorie/vitamin breakdown on each of those drinks it'd be golden
