Where can I learn how to dance?

I am pretty new to the game and have avoided dancing/clubbing my whole life. Now that I am trying to get deep in the game I realize I can't avoid it anymore. Problem is that I am terrible at dancing. I am a classic tall stiff white guy. A few drinks will help loosen me up but I still hate doing it.

Where can I learn how to dance better for club settings in order to keep a girl interested and entertained? Ideal solution would be free of cost and embarrassment.

You can learn formal things like Salsa or Swing Dancing at studios.

The stuff you see at hip hop or electronica clubs.....um...you're just gonna have to immerse yourself in the music, and go out a lot.

The advantage to hip hop/r&b/reggae is there is actual physical contact with a chick. (I don't mean b-boying. I"ve known dozens of breakdancers, they ain't getting laid because they can 1990)

But electronica type skills lend themselves to more of a peacock approach, where you perform in order to attract.

It's not hard, but it takes dedication. Learning to beat match helps, because most dj's body rock to get the snares right.

You don't have to dance to be at the club. If you want to dance, let the girl do all the work you just sway your hips and shoulders to the beat. Do it at home. Do it while you're driving. Bob your head to music you like.

Other than that, the poster above me was spot on about salsa classes and such because they give you great body awareness.

But I'll repeat this again. You don't have to dance to be at a club. Dancing is stupid if you don't enjoy it.

The most basic building block of your dancing should be this, like Hitch does at 1:10

The side-to-side step is my basic go-to (of course, you can spice it up more than that). Before you have a girl to dance with, it's a good basic move to do a "holding pattern" while you scope out girls on the dance floor while showing you're competent and ready to dance.

For dance floor game, see Samseau's landmark guide. It really opened me up to the goldmine that is dance game.

My basic routine is as follows:

1. Establish a "home base." If I'm by myself, I'll stake out an area where I can dance on my own; if I'm with friend(s), we'll stake out a loose circle. The point is to establish yourself and to be able to scope out the girls around you. (Sometimes you can do this while dancing with a girl that's not really into you but willing to dance for a few minutes)

2. Spotting a girl. Analyze what her situation is: is she in a big group? Group of two? On her own (rarely)? Put in the back of your mind that you might have to quickly diffuse group dynamics, and jump into the approach.

3. Approaching the girl. I try to make sure to approach from the front or the side (as per Samseau's guide), so that she sees me and won't have to make a "snap rejection" because I surprised her. I give her a moment or two, and then I grab her wrist and attempt to twirl her. If she accepts the twirl, I game on and pull her in to me. If not, depending on how strong of a rejection, I'll either pass on her immediately or attempt to pull her in for 2-3 more seconds (but either way, I'm prepared to eject if she rejects my twirl--it's a good filter).

4. Dancing with the girl. I begin with the twirl, and then I'll pull her in close so that our legs and torsos are nearly touching. I immediately put my hand on the small of her back to keep her in rhythm. After a while, I start using half-twirls to alternate our dancing from front-front to front-back grinding/dancing. After a few minutes, during front-front, I'll put my finger on her chin to direct her into a makeout. If she rejects a makeout, she fails another compliance test and I'll know that she's not that into me. I'll be prepared to pass on her if she rejects a second makeout in a few minutes. During this time, I use her as a "home base" and start scoping out the next potential target.

5. After dancing. Once I dance with a girl for a few minutes, and we probably made out, I will start talking to her on the dance floor. Short stuff, because the music is loud, like "Hey, what's your name?" or any other quick banter/observations you can make. This is when you want to establish a little rapport with a woman you know is already attracted to you. You might take her off the dancefloor to the bar for a drink/water, or even "to get a breather outside." The beauty of dance game is that it can systematically lead to a makeout with a girl, and from there you can proceed with your game instincts.

You might get rejected a lot at the beginning. Don't get discouraged--dance game is the best DTF filter possible. I once was intimidated from dance game... and after a couple months' work, I use it as my bread and butter. In my experience, a number from the dance floor is far more reliable than a "bar talk" phone number--because you already gave them a plausible chance to reject you. Invite the rejections as a time saver.

I use dancefloor game alot and it saves you alot of time in screening for dtf females.
My best bet would be to watch a guy who knows what he is doing and then learn the moves, go on utube and watch tutorials and then like anything else practice.
When I first started dancing at clubs I never used to like dancing either but the more you go out the more you learn from watching others and trying.
Also any genre of music can be used to dance with a chick just approach her and take her hand(s) if she put them back down pretend to do a sad face and move on if not swing arms with her in the rhythm of the song playing if she accept that then put on hand on her waist and then spin her around and grind with her.

I've been using the lessons from: http://www.PickUpDance.com - you can order a DVD, or pay for the instant download, which is what I did. Highly recommended - it didn't turn me into a world class dancer, but it gave me the confidence to at least put myself out there on the dance floor, with a few moves in my back pocket.

Great advice everybody. Much thanks. I am going to check out some youtube vids and this pickupdance site. I just read Samseau's post. A lot to take in but I will start putting it into practice piece by piece. I only wish I liked club music more. I am more of a Velvet Underground, Smiths, Radiohead kind of guy.

I'm indifferent to a lot of club/dance music, but I still like a lot of mainstream stuff like LMFAO and Nicki Minaj that have a good hook and get everyone's energy up. Find a song that you do like, that has a good groove and makes you tap your foot involuntarily. Then, play the song while you practice dancing at home a little bit in front of a mirror--the basic left-right step like from the Hitch clip, then experiment with what looks good and practice putting it to a beat.

I think, for me, doing that helped to connect dancing and the feeling I get when I hear dance music that I actually like. I can more easily infuse some energy into it even if I'm not into the song actually playing on the dance floor. When I was a teenager, I used to not dance at all. Now I have a lot more self-confidence and I have an appreciation for dancing, both for self-enjoyment and game-wise.

For what it's worth, here are some of my favs:

Good luck and keep at it! [Image: banana.gif]

I actually like these songs a lot. Thanks. I will try to find a place where I can hear this kind of stuff. I don't know how you can like this and LMFAO at the same time. LMFAO has to be the worst "band" of all time.

Sorry man but this stuff is a rip off - you don't understand how you got conned. 50 bucks for a dance DVD? Ridiculous!

Wow this is bad. Please guys, never ever do this move on any woman. That dip is so bad it will freak out most women because you aren't properly supporting them as they lean back. A dip with your hand behind her neck? Garbage!!!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooo bad I'm laughing my ass off at this scam of a site!

Just go to a club and watch good dancers! Or go to partner dancing venue and watch the good dancers! There are hundreds of better dancers than this internet marking buffoon.

You won't learn any creativity from a club dance DVD that teaches the same lame moves to men everywhere. That is NOT the way to get laid with dancing.

Here's a video of a world champion swing dancer Skye Humphries dancing...

You can learn more from this video FOR FREE than you can on entire scam dancepickup site.

I took two hours of lessons with Skye Humphries for 30 bucks. That's still 20 dollars less than the DVD's on that site, and I learned advanced swing dancing... you tell me guys, what's the better deal?

Haha woah man, chill out a bit!! Obviously the wedding dance video you posted is lame as shit, and that's because it's a wedding dance video. It's also not representative of the 101 lessons.

The club dance 101 download is $40, and spends a huge chunk of time on basics like how to keep rhythm, etc. etc., which is exactly what I needed as a complete beginner, with absolutely zero natural dance ability.

For me, the lessons worked. That's all I can say. Being able to practice in the comfort of my own home was also important - it helped me get over my fear of being laughed at on the dance floor. There is more than one way to skin a cat, so calling it a scam without actually seeing the product is a bit of a stretch IMO.

I think I am in the same boat as Blurred. I have no rhythm and need to start from scratch.

However I would not like to spend a dime on this. I just want to be passable at dancing and not John Travolta. For now I think taking Samseau's advice and just observing what I can for free is going to be my strategy.

Where can I learn how to dance?

I was a self conscious and awkward dancer who didn't enjoy dancing and avoided it, until I dated a Filipina hottie who had me constantly on fire. She was a great dancer, and was wildly and passionately into me. Whenever we hit the dance floor our magnetism was palpable - we were an item, and only had eyes for each other. Other guys and girls had eyes for her though, and she was great that way as she'd attract a crowd of the hottest girls in the club dancing around her, every time.

So that's one way to learn to dance. Find a girl who is really into you who is into dancing, and who you are into enough that you get off on dancing with her.

Admittedly I drank a lot before finally standing up to move, but the regular practice at dancing did make some improvement, until that feeling of clumsy awkwardness went away.

It's still a matter of inspiration now. I don't like to dance just to dance - I like to dance with a hottie who lights me up AND who is obviously into me.

Oh - another thing that inspires me when I dance - I mix dancing with moving chi-kung. I know not many guys are going to find that info useful at all, but maybe a few have a feeling for it. Basically you highlight the internal bodily sensations and get off on feeling them. So it's not just about the music, or the movement, but about an embodied internal movement and presence. It's a type of buzz that is enjoyable, along with the social scene of watching all the pretties bob up and down, and the charge of the crowd, and the hottie in front of you - a type of joy of being in your body.

1. its easier to learn to dance if you start off dancing to music you like. The more you llike the music, the easier it is

2. If you have no rhythm and are watching a live band, watch the bass player a little bit (or drummer, but that might be more complicated to follow for some) and you can much more easily find the beat and follow it

Ahh dancing
I only dance good with alchohol(at least I think), UNLESS it's country dancing. The 2 step.
With dancing, you just have to go with it and keep up with the rhythm of the girl. At least that's how I do it.(This is for hip hop/"freak" dancing)

2 stepping is my shit though. Damn I love being in Texas where if you know how to dance your golden

I took some ballroom dancing when I was younger, it was pretty fun and I still incorporate some of the basics into my normal dancing.

The most useful has been swing dancing. If you get somewhat competent at swing, I strongly suggest checking out to see if there are any swing dancing clubs near you. There's quite a few in NYC. I've been to one in the city and I'll let you in on a secret: it's a goldmine for college-age, friendly, and generally thin girls. On top of it, the competition (game and style-wise) is pretty weak. The only caveat is that girls are primarily there to use their swing dancing skills, so you need to be better than a beginner level in order to let them "fulfill" that goal.

But otherwise, it combines a lot of the good aspects of night and day game: you have the expectation of approach, instant isolation on the dancefloor, and instant kino of dancing that you get with night game... but also the ability to have light conversation on the dancefloor, the music isn't so loud that you can still talk on the sidelines, and friendly attitudes of girls with their bitch-shields down just having fun with one of their hobbies.

Where can I learn how to dance?

I'm usually complimented on my dance skills. My specific recommendations are the following:
- With each beat, bounce your knees slightly, thrust your pelvis about 2 inches, and bob your head about 1 inch.
- Your hand movement should vary with the beat. For hard beats, you'll want to use some sort of fist pump, shaking like a polaroid picture, or raising your arm above your head and bobbing your wrist. If the music becomes more airy, use some of wavelike motion with your arms. In all cases, you can use the move where your palm faces downward and you make a spanking gesture with your other hand.
- For footwork, I would not worry about it. That's more advanced stuff and most people don't look at your feet in the clubs.
- Watch youtube videos. Monkey see, Monkey do.
