Has anybody got a Nexus 7 tablet or can offer some advise on their suitability please?

Looking for something as a mainly reading device (newspapers / books / magazines etc)...but am no tech guru !

Kindle is your best option.

Tablets, smart phones, and MP3s SUCK.

I buy spiral notebooks and Bic pens at the Dollar Tree for my needs.

I keep my music on CDs in alphabetized shoe boxes.

I write on mud tablets and listen to fat women singing.

I will say that if you are in this purely for reading, your best bet cost-wise is a Kindle. I think $75 gets you the basic one?

ahhh but in the UK a newspaper (which I read) is doing an offer where you can get a Nexus 7 for £50, with a subscription to the newspaper (which I buy anyway).......hence the question.

Obviously most on this forum prefer to use slate and chalk in their mud huts!

That's a great deal considering you read that paper anyway.

Tech lust pushes me in the direction of tablets, but I have zero use for them, and in many ways they are larger smart-phones minus key features... Such as the phone part.

I suggest getting a e-ink reader namely for the fact that it can do all the reading you want it to, plus the battery life is beyond ridiculous. I recently bought a Kobo Glow and it does everything very well. I stick to my smart-phone for tablet-based features.

I've got an N7; it's a good device and combined with a bluetooth keyboard is an excellent low-power laptop replacement for the road for many tasks.

One thing I don't do on it is read. When I travel, I carry the N7, keyboard, and a cheap e-ink reader (Nook Simple Touch).

Why the e-ink? Easier on the eyes, fantastic battery life (week or two at a time), don't feel as bad if I drop or damage it.

If I didn't travel, I'd probably lose the N7 and keep the Nook. Sure, black and white only, but it's a solid device and does what it's supposed to.

I was strongly considering the nexus 7 for the primary use of surfing the internet in bed haha
Other than that i dont see a use for it. I have a powerful desktop and play on getting a laptop for school in the fall.
Not to mention 2 smart phones...it just fits a small niche for me (a lazy one at that).

the nexus 7 is way better then the kindle. Better specs, supported by google and has stock android. One of the best tablets out right now.

I actually enjoy reading on mine. Like the kindle you can buy ebooks on amazon and have them sent directly to the tablet. Before I bought it I considered getting a kindle fire, but there is nothing the kindle does that the nexus 7 can't and some of the hardware is a little better. You're also pretty much guaranteed to always have the latest version of android as well.

As a bonus, it has also replaced my netbook for visiting websites and whatnot.

Question: can you really get some WORK done on a 7" or 9" tablet?

Apples and oranges. I have a Nexus 7 AND Kindle. For all the positive qualities of the N7 I wouldn't dream of reading on it.
