The Hamsterization of Al Gore

You all have probably heard -- Al Gore, former VP and presidential candidate, Academy Award winner, climate change gadfly, and creepy masseuse masher -- personally grossed $100 million from the sale of the Current TV channel to...

...Al Jazeera.

http://www.adweek.com/news/television/cu...era-146227

Of course, the ironies come thick and fast on this one.

First, Al Jazeera, as we all know, has been funded by Qatar whose riches came from....FOSSIL FUELS!! The same fossil fuels that Climate Al finds so troubling.

Second, Democrat Al Gore, a 1 percenter if there ever was one, apparently tried to get the deal done before the New Year so he would not be affected by the higher capital gains tax rate. Alas, poor Al wanted to avoid paying his "fair share." Alas, couldn't get it done.

Third, the stories are floating around that Glenn Beck -- the mormon conservative talk show host -- took a run at buying Current TV but was told that "the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view," according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

http://www.examiner.com/article/glenn-be...-tv-to-him

Hmm...so al Jazeera is "aligned" with Al's point of view. Um, OK.

Now, I will admit -- al Jazeera has a complex relationship in the media world. Sure it's pissed off many of the authoritarian regimes -- a good thing -- but at the same time its sympathies for certain Jihadist strains is undeniable (done, no doubt, in the "spirit" of telling "both sides of the story.")

Anyway, this deal is highway robbery by Gore and his partners. (al Jazeera is "aligned with Gore's interests" all right--the interest of lining his pockets). The strategic plan apparently is to dump the Current TV lineup disaster and use the cable distribution to feed al Jazeera programming into the USA.

Good fuckin' luck with that. Time Warner Cable has already said it will not carry the new and improved Current. Watch other cable providers fall into line.

al Jazeera may have spent $500 mill for a whole lot of nothing.

But then again, Al's major talent has been to convince other people that nothing IS something.

Al Jazeera is more of a legit news channel than MSNBC or Fox News

Agreed with the latter. They actually do pretty good work.

They do some good work, but they also do work that sucks.

For example, AJE employees pretending to be anti-American demonstrators in Ramallah in 2005.

Allowing serious interview platforms for guys like Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, an internationally sanctioned war criminal who has slaughtered scores of women and children. Airing a series of speeches in 2009 by Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi in which he said Jews deserved to be punished by Hitler and he hopes the “next time will be at the hand of the believers.”

Ironic, considering that you just posted a whole lot of nothing.

Hey, I did say "pretty" good [Image: wink.gif] If I had to choose between AJ and Fox, I'd choose AJ. Luckily in this day and age, we don't have to choose since we can get all sorts of information streams; ironically, the plethora of choice means that people pick streams that reinforce their personal beliefs instead of actually looking for information (or they do what I unfortunately do, and simply avoid much of it).

How the hell is Current TV worth $100 Million?

Ana Kasparian is the most valuable thing at CurrentTV and she has as much value as a couple of cocktails at a lounge.

Should I remind you of all the bogus bull shit the US media reports on non stop.

Where to begin. Oh yeah Iraq had WMDs. First desert storm Sadam was throwing babies out of incubators. Iraq was supplying and training Al Queada. These are outright lies.

But you prefer to silence someone who wants to just voice there opinion ? What is wrong with Al Jezeera giving a platform to war criminals ? US media does it everyday. Obama, Bush, Clinton's, Cheney, these are the biggest war criminals in the Last 20 years. Not to mention I wouldn't be surprised if everyone of those people mentioned above were installed by the CIA and receive heavy funding from the US government.

Have you ever seen how many times CNN, FOX, MSNBC air video of events around the world and later you find out the video was a fake ? Happens almost weekly some protest going on against america and then you find out oh that video was 5 years old and in another country.

Or how about ABC I believe it was that doctored the Zimmerman 911 call to make it sound like he was a racist.

I will take Al Jezeera and Russia Today over anything the US offers.

Pretty much all news media is nothing but propaganda. But I bet Al Jazeera's will be closer to the truth than CNN or Fox, and maybe the news anchor will be a pretty Arab girl with taste and a pleasant accent.

Al Jezeera is heavily compromised. Looking back in retrospect its easy to see they we're a smoke screen from the start.

Remember AJE buttered its bread by being the 'bridge' between the Islamic/Arab world and the West. Before 9/11 nobody over here gave a shit about the Arab world but after 9/11 and the War Campaigns AJE become the default "credible" source for news from that region. If you look back all of Bin Laden's tapes magically only were soured through AJE. To the point they were saying that tapes were being left on the company's door step at night. ...sure. They are far from perfect and though they do a better job of covering news and events they still have glearing flaws in how they go about their business and have been in situations where they have heavily censored or compromised stories to fit a certain narrative they are trying to push.

I would put them one step below the CBC which here in Canada does as a good of job as it can to be un-biased. Its only issue is that its Govt funded and if they are to harsh on the Govt especially now they just simply gouge their funding to bleed it dry.

Just thought of the ultra super liar that was Al Gore.

According to his 2006 "documentary" movie, for which he won (((2 oscars))) dozens of costal cities should be flooded or underwater by now, greenland's ice should have all melted, and a host of other ridiculous global catastrophes should have occured.

Dude's like this should be put in jail for lying and misleading the public like he did.

But, we all know it's part of the global (((agenda))).

Similar claims were made the decade before that and even the decade before that.

Thanks for reminding me. I used these "inconvenient facts" to massively trigger some snowflakes a while back, to the point where you could actually start to see their religious faith fracture a little.

I'll have to re-gather some quotes and save them for the next big climate change push.

The public will judge a man by what he lifts, but those close to him will judge him by what he carries.

We forget Al Gore's greatest accomplishment, as explained by Cokie Roberts:
