Thailand is a surgery tourism hotspot, I'm not sure about your operation but I met an American guy here who was getting 6K worth of dental work done that would have cost him 40K back home. Colombia also has a lot, but I think its mostly plastic surgery there.

2 questions. Of it is routine whynot get in Russia. Russia is cheap.
Who told you, you need surgery?when in Ukraine I had doctors tell me things that once American dr. Saw me he laughed. If a Russia dr says you need surgery get second opinion. Russians love to cut. Burn the village to save it, a dr in Kiev once told me. That was 10 years ago no problems and I did nothing.

india, insurance companies have been sending americans there for operations because even with the flight and travel its still cheaper than the us. but you will find good doctors in latin america too, especially mexico and brazil. but the best doctors in these countries often charge prices comprable to usa prices.

I happened to know quite a bit on medical tourism so here is my advice:

Since you are in Moscow, travel at least 2 hours by train away from Moscow and go to a private ( paid) clinic to get a second opinion. If you still need surgery, do it there in Russia in a nice private clinic. The closest cheap and quality country would be Thailand. But considering the cost of the ticket, you can get better service in Russia. Use internet and word of mouth to find a place. Many Moscowvites travel outside of Moscow to get medical services.

Groton your best bets are India and Thailand, India has hospitals that exclusively employ U.S Board certified Surgeons with excellent track record. We are sending patients from US there to have complex surgical procedures like CABG (Heat Bypass) done for under $ 10,000.

For a Colectomy/Ileostomy shouldn't take you more then $ 5,000 for Surgery and Recovery on a beach resort in Goa [Image: smile.gif] At age 28 needing a colostomy I will rule out Colon Cancer, What else can you have at age 28 that needs colectomy/ileostomy ....... Gun Shot wound ? Severe case of Crohn's Disease ?

Not to derail the OP original focus on addominal surgery, but what is your opinion on vanity dental things like veneers or caps?
I am in Poland and will be in Ukraine ( part near Poland) and my impression is the Poles have a little more on the ball intellectually.

Ideas?

Poland or Ukraine is probably no different. You need to find a good doctor - that's what is more important. Thailand is your best bet for dental work. They employ top doctors and their equipment is way better than I have seen in the US for example.

WHY do you need the surgery?

If a doctor is telling you your colon needs to be removed and you will be shitting in a bag (temporarily or permanently), you better have a good answer to the question.

yes, I agree. It is important to have a trustworthy doctor.
I will have the surgery tomorrow here in Russia. It is specifically called "total proctocolectomy with ileostomy" and will cost me less than 5,000.

Wish me luck, happy New year and thank you fir advice.
