The Best Mini Series of All Time

Roosh´s challenge about reading a long ass history book or biography was dead on. Used to do it all the time before, but I have started losing the habit...which I hope to change soon.

But if most you guys dont have the time to read such long books, I would watch a mini-series from th 1980s called Shogun. It is based on a book by James Clavel about a 17th century Englsh pilot and navigator, who manages to reach Japan, with one ship and his Dutch crew. It is fiction, but mixed with much historical accuracy.

It is based on the real life of an english navigator and Japanese politics of the time. Much about Japanese culture and language can be learned by this mini-series. The acting and the fight scenes are also superb.

Cant think of a better mini series than that one. Maybe the Thorn Birds, but it is a bit too sappy lol.

Didnt see The Pacific, but Band of Brothers was excellent. Though, the nuances, acting, story, drama make Shogun somewhat better IMO, even without as many technological effects.

Also Shogun focuses more on 3 or 4 men. Sometimes, in Band of Brothers there was just too many characters you were dealing with... so it was hard to get attached to any particular one.

Though, you cant go wrong with watching any of those 2 mini series.

Also by watching Shogun you can get an idea of how feminine Japanese women were and still are. I still dream of going there someday soon.

Have any of y'all seen a miniseries called "Profit." It's great and I think the psychological manipulation element would appeal to a lot of guys here. It's more based on business than women, but women are a tool that the main character uses to achieve his objective.

+1 to band of brothers and pacific. Fantastic

I liked Brigada as well.

16 episodes detailing the rise of kleptocrats, crime and corruption in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. The first half is gold if you want insight into the FSU and cultural attitutde. Great series.

Its on youtube w/english subtitles as well.

Heres where I watched it...http://www.1channel.ch/tv-258-Brigada/season-1 . Usually liked the putlocker link.

Edit- putlocker is down for some of these videos.... =(. Cant find w/english subs on youtube anymore.

Amazon link...http://www.amazon.com/Brigade-Brigada-5-DVD-Set/dp/B0002HM6GM/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1356457798&sr=1-1&keywords=brigada

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

I saw Shogun as a child. I still remember those guys got boiled in hot water as some sort of punishment. brrrr!

Actually the Dutch were in Japan in the 17th century (1609) and had a trading post there. In Nagasaki to be precise. The Japanese built an huge theme park there in the 90's as a tourist attraction and to honor the 400 year old relations. It's called Nagasaki Holland Village. Been there done that!

check out "Rome" I believe it was on HBO, its not techincally a mini series (It had two seasons), but it has a start and a glorious finish. Probably the best mini-series/show I've seen in recent years.

I remember "Shogun". I was a little boy. It had an effect on me. After seeing it, I wanted to learn karate, become a ninja, and date Japanese women..
