You guys won't like to hear this (probably) but the best roads in the US are in Texas, bar none. The weather's optimal, not as good as California, but when you're rolling down the highway the Texas roads are virtually unblemished. I don't know how they do it, it has to be weather, I've lived everywhere, Northeast, Northwest, Midwest, Southwest, deep South, nobody keeps their roads like Texas. It's not a place you want to get caught fucking around by the cops, not even Austin, the authorities there will beat you down HARD, but if you got a nice car and want to hit the least amount of bumps you want to be in Texas.

Texas does have some really nice roads. The only other state that competes with Texas is New Hampshire. There's a reason Laconia attracts so many motorcycle enthusiasts.

More people moved out of California in 2011 than moved in, according to the latest report from the U.S. Census Bureau, signaling that the Democrat-run state’s economic woes continue to drive residents away.

Most statisticians attribute California’s net loss of 100,000 people last year to its high cost of living, increased population density and troubling unemployment rate.

The widening middle class in Mexico is also encouraging some immigrants to remain in that country instead of moving to California.

Texas — home to lower taxes, less regulation and what the Manhattan Institute calls a “labor pool with the right skills at the right price” — is one of the most attractive destinations for companies departing from California, according to the Census Bureau.

California has been hemorrhaging residents since 2005, but some experts say good news is on the horizon.

“We expect over the next couple of years that we will add jobs,” Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation chief economist Robert Kleinhenz told NBC News.

“This year, we’ve added jobs in California at a faster pace than in the nation as a whole. So, we are moving in right direction. As that happens, we’ll see the migration numbers turn around some.”

The Census Bureau reports that 468,428 people have moved to California from other states, and 269,772 have moved to the state from other countries

Dude, considering the anti conservative rant you were going on a while back, I must say that I am having a good chuckle over you posting this. This is the end result of it all bro, why you so surprised?

Considering the current class war underway and all the people clamoring for more free shit, expect to see this nationwide as the Dems move further left and they win another 8 years after Clinton runs.

55 reasons why California is the worst state

Some of it is snark, but much of it is nothing more than fundamentals that have resulted from liberal policy making.

Good night sweet prince!

Ha. Good catch.

Harry, I know it may seem contradictory, but I have reasons why I hate conservatives.

And I have reasons why I hate liberals.

Trust me, I have a unique situation and everything I do and support is in my own best interests.

You and Mike CF also advocated for raising taxes on the rich.

Now the rich are leaving California. Will you guys at least admit your beliefs were wrong? There's no shame in admitting being contradicted by experience.

What do conservatives have to do with it? Fuck the conservatives, they are irrelevant to this conversation. You were directly advocating for increasing taxes.

Just because conservatives oppose higher taxes does not mean that opposing higher taxes makes you a conservative.

Either higher taxation is good for a country/state or it is not, no? Higher taxes just kicked the shit out of tax revenue in California.

So which is it: do you still advocating taxing the rich or do you not?

I think living in the glamorous parts of CA is almost the same as living in NYC (Manhattan particularly) in that if you don't have a solid game plan you're going to get fucked, assuming upward mobility is what you're aiming for. Otherwise, living in those places comes out to a loss on the balance sheet. For me, if it don't make dollars it don't make sense.

As for San Diego and Republicans, totally true that the term "Republican" is relative here. I also find many California republicans to be quite competent. I remember the former "Governator's" first recall election where he was up against Arianna Huffington, Cruz Bustamante and the republican Tom McClintock. McClintock was by far the most qualified of the bunch. Many of his policies made a whole lot of sense. In fact, in most traditionally Republican states he would be a moderate republican, if not a conservative democrat, but in CA he was considered far right wing. Unfortunate. Arnold could hardly be considered a true republican. I find most CA republicans to be more economically conservative rather than socially, which are the kind of republicans I can agree with for the most part. I don't really care about how people choose to live their lives so long as they don't undermine the liberty of others to do the same.

The interesting thing about SD is you have a situation where the city is more liberal and attracts a ton of young transplants but the county leans more Republican (though in a different sense). SD also attracts a lot of wealthy retirees. Guys like Mitt Romney live in La Jolla. You also have those rich folks in towns like Coronado who are conservative. I know I felt out of place like a mofo in Coronado.

Still, on a whole I find SD (the county included) to be fairly conservative for a major California city. It's like the second or third largest, no? I know it's LA then San Jose or San Diego. Those are in the top three. But on the other hand, SD is actually one of the few places in CA where I could raise a family.

Why do you think a lot of people don't agree with tax hikes on a class even if they don't belong to that class?

It isn't about protecting that class or wanting to be a part of that class.

It is knowing that your time will come and the same arguments will be used against you.

Tax the other guy and not me doesn't work as you have realized.

Ha.

Yeah, Coronado is a trip. My godfather lives there. He is a main gun.

That place is like Utopia; if you are white. It is a bizarro world. I have been going there since I was a baby.

Yeah, second largest.

Many people call San Diego a "Midwestern town" on the California coast.

They mean that in a good way and a bad way.

Heres my opinion as to why people are leaving California..

Its too fucking expensive!!!

If you wanna live in a good area you gotta pay big bucks. I think this is the #1 reason.

If they are leaving California, are they going somewhere better?

I would like to live in New York, Miami, Chicago, Austin TX, Phoenix AZ, and other places around the world.

When I leave it will be because girls are easier in other places.

Tip: Small town Cali girls are way easier to deal with then big city Cali girls.

@ Gmanifesto: I sympathize, but I can't help but laugh. Did you not argue rather vehemently in the run-up to the election (or was that MikeCF?) that more liberal places were cooler, either by causation or coincidence? And a 52 percent marginal tax rate on income is not bad at all, when considering certain European countries. Denmark has a marginal tax rate of 56 percent that kicks in at earnings above USD75,000 and consumption taxes come out at about 30%, assuming you don't buy cars or stuff like that. In total, the marginal tax rate for a lot of people is close to 70%.

Anyways, so much for free-thinking and pot-smoking hippies and their rebellion against bourgeoisie complacency.

But people in denmark get free education, healthcare, and a whole host of other benefits from their taxes, whereas american taxes go to fund wars, and other stupid shit.

Being taxed in scandinavia makes way more sense than in america, where you basically get nothing back.

So even if taxes are higher there, it's still a better deal than in america.

Besides the costs and taxes, the real problem in california is the mass immigration of mexicans(most of them are poor and uneducated). There is racism towards mexicans, and i'm pretty sure those anti-immigrant feelings would be non existant if those immigrants were actually german or swedish....

Remember my words, mexicans will recover california( and most south western states) for mexico not through war, but through the most powerful weapon a poor person has: his seed...

Tax the people who can afford it. If you make six digits, certainly seven, yeah, you can afford to pay for someone else. The concept behind it is simple and makes sense. Saying "you tax me and I'll not want to work" or whatnot is no different than the "omg if you make us pay healthcare I'll fire everyone!" routine...just blowing smoke. The rich will do ANYTHING to stay rich, that's how they GOT rich! No different than us trying to convince a girl it's ok to be slutty so we can bang her, we're doing what's in our best interest.

Our taxes go towards stupid shit. That does breed resentment. But there's still something fucked up when I was shit broke, living in the ghetto, making peanuts, and paying 25% and 5% state with 3% city without complaint (and barely eligible to even pay that), whereas someone making $150k/yr pays 35% plus 6.25% state, and bitches constantly (not referring to anyone in particular on this forum). The rich in the 1 mil class need more, but the 10+ mil group needs serious taxation. And we need to stop letting them offshore bank accounts too.

Everyone wants to raise taxes on everyone else except their own income bracket, and will rationalize away why it's moral; it's pure hamsterism. You get what you pay for. You don't want to pay that extra 3%? Oh well, cops don't give a fuck that your car got jacked, they're too understaffed to care. "No new taxes"? That mostly-white school your little timmy goes to is closing. You can't have social services and a functioning society, while not having taxes. See: any city that has no real tax base (like Baltimore). It's the same thing. The middle class shouldn't pay more than maybe 20% imo, the lower should get social benefits through more work-based stuff (jobs for the sake of jobs) and pay their fair share too. The rich have the capacity and stability to pay, therefore they should. The whining is nothing but white people problems.

Tax those who can pay, and put the taxes towards shit that's actually relevant and the people give two shits about.

Yeah.

I am inconsistent on some things in life.

But, I mean, I am pretty consistent on those two fronts aren't I?

Anon - do you know how taxes work ie FICA (payroll taxes) vs local taxes such as real estate tax, sales tax etc...It can be overwhelming. A very simple 10,000 foot overview: Your payroll taxes go to the Feds. They spend it on war, and so called entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. They also dole out money to the states. A City like Baltimore gets revenue from property taxes and sales taxes. They will get get state funds from MD - again from your payroll taxes. My point is, raising income taxes will not benefit the groups you are talking about. It will all go to more federal waste. They do not spend our money properly. That is what I am opposed to.

It's not "white people problems"....it is US citizen problems. I agree with you 100% that we need to spend more on education / services to have a functioning first world society. Here is the complaint - the Federal Governement takes my, no, OUR hard earned money and just wastes it! So much of your paycheck is going to the war machine. See the below link. 82 Million a day on Afghanistan. How far could that 82 mil go in B-More? We don't need to be taxed more, we need to reduce spending.

There are some thing I don't agree with him on, but the guy is competent as hell and knows his shit. In some ways he kinda reminds me of Ron Paul in that he really stands by what he believes and will do things like go on radio shows and answers tough questions that aren't pre-scripted. It was listening to him on talk radio that made me realize how well he understood this state's fiscal problems. While I don't want a right-wing president, I can vote right for local governments because this state is so far left it probably needs it just to balance things out. Shit like spending billions for some useless high speed rail that goes nowhere would only happen in California.

Both LA to SF and LA to LV are supposed to happen. The LA to LV one, passenger, is only a recent development.

There are hundreds of thousands of people if not millions that go back and forth between these cities each year. If it happens, (without knowing the hard numbers) I hardly imagine it will be a waste of money.
