Good Pre-Game Dinners which will not hinder Party-Mode

Guys,
The older I get, the more I realize that there are some meals which should straight out be avoided before going out at for a long night of partying.
When I was younger, I would not pay attention to such things but the more I'm able to feel my body, the more I realize that this actually can be a bit of a factor in how my night goes.
These can be due to a number of reasons:
1) Bad breath it can cause you
2) Gassiness it cause you
3) Foods that make you severely lethargic
4) Foods that do not provide enough base for handling alcohol afterwards
5) Other miscellaneous reasons
Personally, I've found that the top foods that I should not eat before going out are the following:
1) Pasta if it has a TOMATO sauce (simply put, the tomatos make me gassy beyond belief)
2) Steak (makes me too lethargic/heavy stomach and I want to sleep). Most of my friends seem to have no problem with steak though.
3) In n out burgers must be avoided at all cost before going out. This can be a challenge due to how tasty and alluring they are (West Coast players can attest).
Through trial and error, I have found the following to work pretty well as they give good energy and generally don't cause bad smells:
1) Dishes based on chicken breast, including pastas. No after taste, minimal bad breath, depending on the spices.
2) Salmon with mixed vegetables (no onions). Yes, perhaps risky going with any kind of fish, but I have not noticed any bad breath afterwards.
3) Chicken kabob with rice and salad on the side (good after taste, solid energy, no gas).
I have tried experimenting with just salads before a night out but I find that I get hungry easily.
Do any of you guys have favorite meals to eat before going out?

I have the same problem. For whatever reason a peanut butter and jelly always helps my stomach if it isn't feeling great. Same with drinking a Gatorade. Not sure why.

Last night I made a huge mistake. Before going out to party, went to a steakhouse and got a 16oz ribeye, crab legs, garlic cheese bread, salad and twice backed potato. I lasted 15 minutes out before going home and passing out.

I don't think the answer here is what to eat, but when. I usually eat my big meal relatively early in the evening, like 6 or 7. I make sure it's enough food to keep me satisfied until I go out, which is around 10 or 11.
I am guilty of late night munchies after drinking though, usually late night thai food or street tacos.

Anything without carbs for me, they make me tired usually.
I follow an IF protocol so I usually eat 8-9 in the evening and fast until 1pm, good way to avoid late night snacks.

I'm in Los Angeles now. Eating later is not the answer. That would cut seriously into the limited clubbing time, given our last calls which are now sometimes coming as early as 1:15am.
It's not a huge deal for me. I'm into sushi in other contexts--it just doesn't do it for me before going out.

Great thread, something all players have to deal with.
As with anything dietary it widely varies body to body.
One of the big problems with eating steak is that all of the saturated fat mixed with the carbs from bread, potatoes, fries, "sides" etc. will cause a big insulin bump which will make you crash and be tired later.
I love eating a steak before going out. I think it helps get my testosterone up. But - I will only eat it with broccoli or local greens. Nothing else. No "sides" or appetizers, unless it's something meat/seafood based like ceviche. This is probably my favorite meal to eat before going out, or some short ribs.
I also like eating big juicy cheeseburgers, if I'm in a bind, but only from places that will actually make a hamburger with pink in the middle. None of that centimeter thick Five Guys/In-N-Out shit, that will mess up your digestive system. If I eat a hamburger I will have to pound some caffeine before going out to make sure I don't have an insulin crash.
Sushi is also a great choice. Lots of sashimi, minimal carbs. Lots of wasabi.
A good way to manage this is to drink heavy while eating dinner. If you are sharing a few bottles of wine while having a Maker's on the rocks, when you are done eating, it won't matter what you ate or how tired you are. You will want to go out.

Pregame dinner is not what you eat, but who you eat it with.
Eat it with good friends and good people who amp up your state? YES!
Eat alone at a fast food joint while staring at fatasses shovel shit into their gaping mouths? NO!

I agree with several posts above about focusing on low carbs. I find veggies are fine, like the broccoli mentioned above. Salad is also fine. Just avoid bread, potatoes, pasta, and rice, and of course sugary sweets. A meal like this is not heavy, and will not make you want to take a nap afterwards. Chicken, fish, or even steak will not be heavy if you have it with salad or veggies only. Also, it will not bloat your belly and make you uncomfortably full.
With dinner or while partying the rest of the night, I prefer liquor with no carbs, like Rum or Whiskey and Diet Coke. Beer or sugary mixers would still cause a spike in blood sugar and possible bloating and sluggishness, even if you avoid it from food.

It's a hard knock life - you have to balance carb intake. If I'm totally low carb, ketosis, staying 50g net carbs the whole da MAX, my alcohol tolerance plummets due to water loss. If I'm just having a few date drinks this is fine, but not for nights on the town. Gotta make sure you eat enough carbs during the day to retain water for boozing. And also drink a lot of water constantly.

^^^ I agree.
Keto has it's place for weight loss, but it's hard to do if you're also lifting or doing cardio regularly, and it does lower alcohol tolerance. I find myself trying to minimize carbs, but still eating of them enough to stay out of keto, and to have good energy for workouts.
Still, with all this being said, I think a low carb meal is the best way to avoid feeling stuffed and feeling like you need a nap when you finish eating. When you're going out on the town, and hoping to get laid at some point in the night, I think the most important thing is to avoid an overly heavy meal.
