Strauss-Kahn, settles suit with NYC hotel maid

Well looks like Strauss-Kahn settled a civil suit against him, by the NYC hotel maid that accused him of rape.

http://www.sfgate.com/news/crime/article...104149.php

Now, I'm not going to make any conclusions on what really happened and if he was guilty or not. Strauss-Kahn appears to have a lot of skeleton's in his closet.

What irks me though, is that while the criminal suit was thrown out over lack of evidence, mainstream society still wants to burn this guy at the stake.

Is it open season on wealthy men who enjoy the company of many women? It seems in a feminized society where the laws tend to favor women, a conniving woman can conspire to accuse a man of sexual harassment or rape, and have a legit shot of striking it rich by settling out of court. (The article doesn't disclose the outcome of the settlement against Strauss-Kahn but considering the guy is loaded, we can assume the maid got payed out beaucoup dollars.)

Even if things don't get settled for a cash pay out, it can still fuck a man over, ruin his career, reputation, or family life.

Apparently Strauss-Kahn got these charges thrown at him for wanting to overhaul the IMF. This was supposedly a ploy to get him out at the IMF, not sure how true that rumor is though.

This.

Usually problems like this just disappear when you are wealthy and powerful. That is, until someone who is also wealthy and powerful needs that your problems stay around a little longer.

I laughed when all of the sudden another reporter was also raped. Being important is both a blessing and a curse.

That rumor doesn't seem likely, because DSK's time at the the IMF was limited anyway. He was set to leave to run for President of France.

Either one of two things happened: he really did attack this chick or the chick tried to set him up, maybe with an accomplice.

This article came out almost a year ago, but it's very illuminating: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2011/dec/22/what-really-happened-dominique-strauss-kahn/?pagination=false

It certainly ruined his career and reputation. Prior to that, he was the all respected and admired Head of the IMF which is quite something. And at the time, surveys in France had him as the heavy favorites to be the new French PRESIDENT! I wouldn't be surprised that all this was a set up by his enemies who didn't want him elected at the top job in France. What a shame as I believe he would have been a great president.

Yeah seems like something fishy going on. The way he was led away in handcuffs in front of the cameras and denied bail etc. all seemed to have the aim of discrediting him before a soon to be voting French population.

Why can you settle for cash in American courts? It just seems to me that it gives an incentive to people to make allegations which may not be true. And why settle if you were innocent? Are you not admitting guilt in some way by doing so,or can you pay off someone but retain your innocence in the public and court's eyes? There is no way I would give some fuck who falsely accused me of something a cent of my savings. Would rather have my day in court.

That said, he did get head from the maid, as his sperm was (I believe) found on her clothing. Even though no rape was proven and so he got off safely, it was foolish of him to assume that a maid wanted to suck his dick just like that, especially with so much to risk.

My issue with Strauss-Kahn is that he simply isn't smooth with his shit. He comes across as a straight-up perv and lech, with his hands all over chicks the moment he's in the room alone with them. Do what you're gonna do - face it, French politicians have some leeway with this kind of thing, because they're society doesn't frown on men having mistresses. The conspiracy theories are to be expected, but he's left a trail of this kind of thing in his wake. It only takes one to step forward, and the rest will follow. The DA actually believed he had a strong case, but because the maid wouldn't have made a convincing witness (the press finding some dirt on her), he dropped the case. She sued in civil court where she lived (Bronx) instead of where the incident happened (Manhattan) because the juries are more pro-plaintiff. Bottom line, Strauss-Kahn paid because he simply didn't want the gory details of whatever happened coming out in court. He got lucky in getting the criminal matter dropped, but the standard of evidence in civil matters is lesser than criminal.
