Shenzen - Who has been there?

I'm very interested in Shenzen. Has anyone been there, or lived there? How is the night life? Do many girls speak English? Transportation? Cost of living?

All info is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Been there for a day twice. Public transport is good with a subway and buses. English is spoken among upper-middle class and up, but not so much among taxi drivers, restaurant waiters, etc. Obviously can’t comment on night life or cost of living.

Very easy to get to HK from Shenzen.

Check this guy's videos. He lives in SZ for a while and his videos are informative and entertaining.

Spent lots of time out there. There is lots of nightlife, and if you're into Chinese girls it would be great. Most don't speak any English. Transportation is great because there is a cheap subway. Taxis are cheap. Living varies, you can live very cheaply or stay in high-end hotels, there are options throughout.

You can take the subway to Hong Kong, takes around 30 minutes, and get solid nightlife over there.

I stayed there 2 months this year. Great place, night life was awesome. Girls from all over the world there, hot ones. Check out Coco park for bars an clubs its bumping every night of the week. There was another nice place for night life.. I cant remember the name of it I always went to Coco park cause it was closer. English is spoken pretty well around Coco park, not so much in smaller venues. My boy is still living out there teaching engrish, I had a blast there. Will type more later im bout to eat dinner ha

Thanks for the info everyone. I have a buddy who lives there. He has lived in China for 3 or 4 years, and is doing some product development in Shenzhen. Who knows, I may end up moving out there as well. It has piqued my attention.

I've heard it's basically the chinese version of Hollywood. It's warmer and attracts all the prettiest girls.

Cr33pin, I'll be very interested in seeing a datasheet.

Cr33pin,
I'd also love to see a datasheet on Shenzen since in the next few months, I'll be relocating to Guangzhou and it's literally next door to it.
RM, my money is on you falling in love with China and SZ and making it your homebase for a while. Nothing like that area (GZ and SZ) when it comes to strategic location and business wise. And as an added bonus, you're right next door to probably the most exciting city on Earth, Hong Kong, which is like 30 minutes by subway from SZ and 2 hours by train from GZ. When are you thinking of going Rio?

VP,

I thought you were gonna go to The Oil fields in Canada to make some cheddar for a few years?

Been there many times. I disagree about the nightlife. You'll find mostly Chinese-style clubs with groups of friends standing around tables drinking bottles of mediocre cognac. I also saw some more Western-style bars (the demon/devil themed thing, anyone know?) but it was empty at midnight on Saturday. Maybe I just didn't appreciate the city cause I was coming from Shanghai.

Speaking of Shanghai: unlike any other guy I've met, I've actually had a lot more luck gaming women in Shanghai than in Shenzhen. It's probably the higher level of English among the girls (I don't speak any Chinese).

The cost of going out will decrease as you get to know the city better I think. In a new Chinese city, I usually start off by going clubbing, but after a week or two I already know the dive bars where the student chicks hang out. I don't know any in Shenzhen though. Someone here familiar with these types of bars might want to mention them. It's a pain finding them on your own.

Technics,
The oil fields is Plan C. Plan A is raise the cash from the oil fields (40-50k-ish) in a few months then I'm out and on the first flight to HK. Plan B is to make DAMN sure Plan A works. [Image: wink.gif]

VP,
Plan A sounds like a hell of a plan. $40-$50k in just a few months? Is that following Scotian's thread?

I didn't think the numbers add up to what he said a newbie could start with over there.

Best of luck to you.
