Being that I am new to Tampa Bay, I don't know anyone and my social life is pretty shitty.

I have been doing some meet ups and had a little success, but certainly not the outcome I am seeking (growing my professional network, meeting hot women, etc).

I was wondering if any of you experienced social aficionados took it to the next level using meetup.com?

Tips, advice, stories, etc, I'm looking for it all.

kinda washed up 28 year olds are aplenty. I did meet a hot gf about that age that I had for a while. this is the site they go to when they don't want to to online dating yet but rather just do activities and hope to meet a guy with similar interests. I would go to 1) rock climbing 2) hiking 3) dancing lessons 4) yoga from private teachers practicing without a gym affiliation. Rock climbing is easily the best

Or you could run a pub crawl on tuesdays and advertise it on there and on couchsurfing

Curious what you mean by "a little success?" I recently moved to a new city as well, and have been thinking that it wouldn't hurt to have more male friends. Because as I've found out, it's easier to get laid than it is to make a decent friend in a new city.

What kind of people show up to these Meetup things?

So true. Most women are late 20s- 30s. I kinda feel like meetup is the best place to meet FRIENDS and not just fuck buddies (though that can happen).

Thanks for the interests. I think rock climbing and running would be good ideas.

Yep.

Met my first male friend through a meetup.com group. I'm working on the second male friend who is a co-worker.

I guess meetup is for more serious personal relationships. Oh well, at least I have options on my days off from work. I can envision going out to club nights with meet up groups and doing my own thing (versus going solo).

It is not like I have to stick with the group all night and it will be easier to go out with a group than by myself.

I went to a few single parents meet ups through meetup.com. Met a few cute girls.
Didn't lead to anything.

There are a lot of "Singles" groups on there that do Singles Nights at bars around the
city or wherever.

In my opinion Meetup is a tool for you to discover places in your new city and also enjoy some of your hobbies and pastimes. Use it to get out of the house and check out things in Tampa. I would manage your expectations and don't expect it to be a buffet of hot girls for you too hit on. Personally, I have made friends from joining running clubs in LA, Miami, and DC. Once you have your own life more developed and well rounded in Tampa you should start to see an increase in your game performance.

I'd go to any sort of professional/networking meetup in your area. Why not? Lot of these functions are held in prominent restaurants or bars in any given certain area so it'll also be a good excuse to naturally drift into other traffic & women within your vicinity once the networking event gets stale.
