Which country should I choose to do the Erasmus Year?

Hi everybody.

I have the possibilities of choosing countries of all the European Union, but the counties I prefer most are these.

Lithuania:
Kaunas:the second most important city of the country),with a population of 311.000 inhabitants
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaunas

[i]Poland

Warsaw(the capital of Poland,with a population of 1.7 million)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw

Krakow: (the second largest city of poland, with a population of 760.000 imhabitants
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krak%C3%B3w

Wroclaw: (the third lasgest city of the country, with a pupulation of 630.000 inhabitants)

Opole[Image: sad.gif]a city of southern of Poland with a pupulation of 130.000 inhabitants)

Hungary: [i][u]

Szeged: the third largest city of Hungary with a population of 130.000 inhabitants
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szeged

Also I have the option of do the Erasmus year in France and Belgium, but I want to live for a period of time of 5-6 months or 9 months in other country of Eastern Europe.

[u]*[u]Should I choose a period of time of 5 months or 9 months

Your logistics will probably be much more important than the specific country you'll be in.

For example will you be in a dorm? Some dorms have a much more vibrant social life than others.

Also some places will probably have much better organized events for Erasmus students than others.

My next guess is you'll have much better chances with other Erasmus students than with local students.

But if you're into approaching girls on the street and in bars, then none of the Erasmus organization matters, only the receptability of the targets in that city to such approaches and the location of your appartment I guess ...

I've hooked up with multiple Erasmus students in Poland, and from what I've seen they all have a blast. While their parties are not quite there for my liking, I would've been all about it in my early 20s. Tons of people drinking beer together in a room with music playing, and they do that everyday. You'll have plenty of opportunities in any of those top 3 Polish cities.

Do you have any sort of decent monthly budget? Even with a working class Western salary you can live it up in Warsaw. Drinks and taxis are cheap!

go for a dorm. in Poland dorms are generally mixed and have a shitload of "house/dorm/corridor" parties. Impossible to have better logistics than that.

Also keep in mind that several people go for erasmus, so you will have a handfull of girls from other countries.

My advices, has a previous Eramsmus student:
Don't hangout only or most of your time with spanish people. it will suck for you. Polish girls like spanish people so you're good to go. Just don't act too "spanish".
Go for a city that is good for your studies, not for the one with most girls. Your degree will kickstart your future and is more important than pussy. Fun factor is also important, so don't choose a "village". Without knowing what you study I would say to choose between these 3 Warsaw, Krakow or Wroclaw.
Search for the ESN (Erasmus Student Network) group in the cities you want to go.
