If you haven't already, Check out Lothario's recent
SF Trip Report.
There are a ton of hotels in that area due to it being so close to Moscone Center. If you only have one night, hotel bars could be a good option.
I'll post links to yelp reviews to give you an idea.
The Marquis itself has a famous bar,
The View, that you should def check out. Can't beat those logistics!
Also,
XYZ at The W and
The Lobby Bar at The St. Regis are both nearby.
Bar 888 at the Intercontinental is also popular.
Honestly, ask the hotel concierge what's popping on Sunday around there. He'll know better than just about anyone.
The
Redwood Room at The Clift is about half a mile away. That's a pretty famous pickup spot. Here's an article from The SF Chronicle where they interview Neil Strauss in The Redwood Room after the release of The Game:
"As soon as you walk into a bar, it's a performance. If you look around for women, you've already lost the game."
Neil Strauss, author of the just-out, sure-to-be-controversial "The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists" (Regan Books; 464 pages; $29.95), scans the Redwood Room bar in the Clift Hotel from a safe position on a couch at the side of the room. He chuckles, looking at a gaggle of guys in khakis and Oxford cloth shirts gathered near the bar, who are talking to one another but scanning the room for babes at the same time.
"Those guys are all holding their drinks defensively -- in such a tight circle there's no room for a woman," says Strauss, resplendent in Hollywood-chic denim and gold Dior shoes.
"And this guy," he adds, nodding his shaved head in the direction of a man hunched over on the bench in the middle of the room, "he's blown it already -- he is looking lonely and lost. I would talk to those women standing next to him, as a group. Just go up and ask them a question -- but not the one they're expecting. 'Who lies more -- men or women?' Always smile, and always keep your energy level slightly higher than the group you're approaching."
