I had good luck in Pac Beach at Firehouse.

Maybe it was just me, but I really had to watch my back in PB. Lots of little cliques and guys looking to start fights.

Not a good place to roll solo.

Yeah, it used to be even worse.

If you roll solo you can become a target.

So everyone rolls in groups and as we know, generally speaking, you don't swoop in groups.

So every one goes out, ratios are bad, no one gets laid.

Maybe there is a 5 on 3 fight at the Taco Shop while ordering a Carne Asada Burrito. Extra Guac.

Then maybe a after party with 12 guys, 2 weesh girls and a half a gram of blow. And no one has money or if guys have money, no one can get a dealer on the phone. Then two more guys walk in with bags of Mex, 3 Rolled Tacos and Carnitas Burritos.

Extra Guac.

Not to mention, San Diego along with LA and OC is the absolute worst place on earth for girls on cellphones.

It is a bold call, but I would venture to say in general that there is less sex going down in San Diego than any other comparable city.

The whole vibe of the place is asexual, girls in jeans, UGG Boots, Flip Flops, female Board shorts, White Dance Culture, Insecurity, Lack of Self Confidence, Restraint, Dry etc.

Compare it to a place like Miami, were it's steamy, girls in heels, thongs, topless, girls dancing, warm water, freedom, openess, latin rhythms etc.

Sex is in the air in Miami as soon as your plane touches down.

No one in San Diego can even dance.

You won't get any argument from me about the talent.

I think a large problem too is the large military population. There's just a massive over saturation of dudes. To top that off, all the guys that live in the barracks go out at night and blow all their money, buying girls drinks. They get massive amounts of attention.

The solution is, of course, to make the girls buy you drinks.

No argument there about all of the military guys blowing money and approaching with monkey style game. Young small town guys (now in the "big city") who are pent-up from military life=bad game. Obviously it's not all or just the military guys, but probably has something to do with chicks being on edge and the behavior I've observed. By the way, I'm one of those military people. I'm an officer and a bit older so no barracks living, and this is not my first rodeo here in SD.

I don't think the military guys are really the problem beyond the fact that they skew ratios.

Military guys are bottom of the totem pole, no offense mbare, as officers are different and you can't really tell they are military.

That being said if you are 22 years old in San Diego it is a pretty good place beyond what we have already talked about ie ratios, Police State, Logistics, un-feminine girls.

It is probably better than 95%-98% of America.

Quality of life is high.

It just is horrible when compared to Miami Beach or NYC or Las Vegas.

And if you are young, being trained on The West Coast Short Clock (early last call) is great for when you get older and turn Full Fledged International Playboy.

The West Coast is only 2 things -- Weather and Mexican food!

^ I don't know what you mean by take on NYC.

For you literally "Just Land"

Quick tip, to save cash just take the bus from JFK to manhattan. Game solved.

I am glad the preference for Mexicans is also rubbing off on you Gio, if memory serves me right you've been finding the random mexicanas sprinkled around the colleges.

If all goes well next year will be the last I see of the shitty state of California. Layup city once you leave.

Yes, I should say.. I can't wait to "land" in NYC so I can hit the streets of Manhattan and tell every girl that she looks nice with my California accent and slang.

Even though California can suck sometimes, I will still pretend that I am "The California Kid", just for gaming purposes, of course.

I never realized that California sucks until I started reading this from and hearing reports from other places.

As far as Mexicanas, yes, I have recently had success with an 18yo and a 20yo. They both told me that they prefer older men.

I'm looking forward to exploring other parts of the country.

One other tip, go to the high end restaurant bars in the gaslamp for the slower nights. I've worked in a few and been surprised to see some of the single talent that rolls through. The places that are on the ground floor of luxury condos are the best. Plus, as the economy went down many of the high end restaurants introduced late night happy hours.

Another place that is sometimes surprisingly good is Hamiltons tavern in south park- more of the hipster crowd but sometimes diverse crowd and even if it's dead they have the best beer selection at good prices, plus pool and shuffleboard. It's a dive that occasionally has talent. The beers are also super strong so be careful and cab it, not worth the dui.

Another area that I've done good at is the university heights area around adams ave, park blvd area. Some of the bars that border hillcrest area are not bad and since there is the gay crowd you can find straight women that aren't even being approached all night. I've picked up in small bar on park, just had to dodge a few limp wrists.

Everyone is right about pb, just go there to get in a fist fight and or watch them.

The other venue that I didn't see mentioned is microbreweries. We have the most per capita in the country and many of them are great! They are turning into quite the scene with an affordable, trendy place to drink. Stone brewery in Escondido has ridiculous talent in the summer time and many of the other tasting rooms are often good. Check them out.

Your right, however microbreweries suck for meeting girls.

Real good for meeting guys in flip flops though, if that is one's thing.

G PB and San Diego in general aint nearly as bad as you make it out to be. Especially comparing it to east coast sausage-fests.

SoCal in general has more girls in the "worth banging" category than most places on the East coast. Granted 80% wouldn't fall into the wife up category but still your average joe is probably going to have his world turned upside down.

This seemed to be a pretty honest gamut of what you'd see at the pool parties etc downtown or floating around the beach. Or at least for 2009 when I was last there. It's not feasible for a place to have nothing but girls that look the blonde in the center. However, on the east coast all but one of them would be fat.

I don't think that there is a huge surplus of dudes that you always mention but rather a lack of women willing to hook up with your average guy since the male competition is pretty top notch. Game or no game.

PB is full of jacked, tanned, salad eating male model wanna bees. I can't remember the last time I lived in a place where where so many dudes were sporting a 6-pack 365.

This has an obvious affect on the local women and their standards. They shift into harem mode where groups of women covet a small subset of guys. Girlfriends often commented about the abundance of "hot pb guys" .
I lived with one of these good looking naturals and saw this first hand the amount of pussy was rolling in nightly.

This causes the regular joes to go bat shit crazy for anything with tits that's left over. Watching the facebook feed of a average girl I know who just moved out there confirms this is still true. Joe smoe from indiana who moved to PB offering places to stay, rides to wherever, party invites etc.

So basically if you are all-ready a good looking guy who has the pussy rolling in, San Diego can be a goldmine. (you're probably already there double fisting some pacificos at Shore club and not on pickup forum) On the other hand, it's a tough place for guys anywhere on the scale lower than what women might consider and 8 unless you have some sort of status thing going on.

I also disagree with your suspect homoerotic comments about the males of Pacific Beach. But that is neither here nor there. That place is full of dorks.

I wish I could give my credentials, but it would give away too much. Anyone who has lived in San Diego, can tell the way I write about the place that I know the place like the back of my hand.

My point is that there are better places to spend ones time with a higher return.

I lived in San Diego for 5 years and moved out there to surf. Assimilation with California culture wasn't an issue I assure you. I lived with locals and ran in that scene. That lack of quality long term employment after I was laid off was. There is no arguing that fact.

I get how you are trying to peg me as some sort of transplant idiot who moved from the Midwest, spent all his time at Moodgoogies in PB, and only hung out with people from the same shitty town back east. I'm not surprised by this as the hyperlocalism and hubris among Southern Californians is off the charts. Care to disagree with that statement? Paddle out at blacks or windandsea and start ignoring the lineup and see if you can even count to ten before they start telling you what they think of LA.

Below are my thoughts on your last response.

Do the logistics suck? Yes
Agreed

Is the Police State one of the worst? Yes
To some extent yes. But this is California in general. The place has too many rules. However, you post some random pictures to act like the cops are out 24/7 which is by no means the case

Are girls more on their cell phones than everywhere else out side of southern California? Yes

I don't even know how you could quantify this. Let's just agree girls are on their phones everywhere

Do the girls where female board shorts instead of thongs? Yes
Never seen this once ever. The amount of thongs in I'm assuming Miami is overrated. You might see as many at the beach in SD when the Brazilians arrive every summer

Do they wear flip flops and UGG boots instead of high heels? Yes

Agree. It's the beach...

Is it ground zero for sleeve tattoos on girls? Yes

What part of California isn't these days?

Is the last call horrible? Yes

Agree

Is it dominated by White Dork Dance Culture? Yes

[/b]This makes me think you wasted to much time at Stingaree or Deccos. You favorite DC spots are about the same too. As with the ones you've dropped for Miami. Your favorite spots seem to be entirely dominated by "Minority Hip-Hop Bottle Service Culture" which I have no interest in and I agree are severely under represented in San Diego.[/b]

We could go on and on but at what point. I get the idea that we have entirely different perceptions of the same place based on our lifestyles and interests(sounds like surfing is prolly the only thing we share in common).

At the end of the day I agree with you that it's a great place to surf, has banging carne asada burritos, excellent weather, but disagree with your assessment of why the girls there are the way they are.

Traveled all over America and a decent portion of the world.

Southern California is the most.

Shouldn't come as a surprise to the logical or the well-traveled, since its America's leader in technology.

Never seen this once ever. The amount of thongs in I'm assuming Miami is overrated.

Assuming wrong.

I go to the beach twice a day.

Girls wear thongs in Miami. Even surf in thongs.

Quote:Quote:

To some extent yes. But this is California in general. The place has too many rules.

Shows lack of knowledge of California.

San Diego is currently and historically much more strict than LA or SF.

You are really starting to airball here.

Quote:Quote:

Agree. It's the beach...

Shows lack of travel.

Monaco is the beach too. No UGG boots. Yes High Heels.

Miami is the beach too. No UGG boots. Yes High Heels.

Spain is the beach too. No UGG boots. Yes High Heels.

etc

Where?

I never go to a club with "Minority Hip-Hop Bottle Service Culture".

Not once.

And this is just a stupid and ignorant statement. It is obvious you know nothing of Miami.

"Minority" in Miami would either be Black or White. I am sure you ment the former.

Wrong again.

I spent a year in San Diego and thoroughly enjoyed it. Smoked weed, surfed, hungout with pretty blonde American surfer girls. Was pretty solid.

I can see some of the negatives though:

- Logistics suck, no public transport worth speaking of
- The last call. Getting told to finish up drinks at 0130 I think it was? Absolutely bloody ridiculous
- Rent is through the roof anywhere close to the beach
- Ratios aren't good in bars
- Cops are dicks. Appear drunk in any way in public and they'll do you if they can

It is what is though - a relaxed surfer town. If you're going to the bars full of 21 year old marines or the wanna-be-preppy-but-failing Gaslamp bars you're doing it wrong. You should be at surfer house parties in PB or Mission Beach or crashing college parties in La Jolla.

I've partied in Ibiza, Miami, NYC, Dubai, London, Bangkok and most other big 'party' cities you can think of. You're not really comparing like with like comparing them to San Diego. Yes they're all more glamorous but none of them have the same chill vibe. Or surfing. It's apples and oranges.

Better comparisons would be surf towns on the Atlantic coast of Portugal or France, or the Gold Coast in Australia. Compared to any of these San Diego is fantastic.

Basically, if you want to go to the best nightclubs in the world full of models in dresses and high heels absolutely go to NYC or Miami or wherever. But if you're in your mid 20s, in good shape and like the beach lifestyle I can't really think of many places I'd rather spend a month chilling than San Diego. You can even fit in a couple weekends to Vegas to get the clubbing out of your system, in between house parties with beach bunnies.

G,

I'm catching back up on this... Very funny and insightful things you wrote throughout this thread. It really is spot on.

As G and others have pointed out, where your from, and where you've been, play a big roll in your opinion for anything and everything. It's forms your world view. For others on this forum who are trying to figure out if they want to visit/game/move here I'll give my brief story.

My first impression of SD/states: I'm used to going out late, so got out around midnight. Just as I was starting to get the night going, every place was doing last call and turning on lights. It was 130. Cops were swarming every place I went, saw fights every night, had to drive through check points. My first 2 weeks, when I had time off, I went out alone and just observed. Personally I really enjoy rolling solo...I did in Europe at least. It was difficult as hell to talk to anyone. Just drunk idiots (guys and girls) everywhere.

McQueen, I like your style and what you've wrote regarding gaming women. Although I have a very nice place/car.. things like that, I'll never be dropping 10k in some place. Most people don't have the connections you do, so they can't use your advise for this particular city. But the rest of your game advise is rock solid, so that of course can be used anywhere. Luckily I have logistics on my side...I'm not far from anything. I also don't have strong contacts yet, and my job now doesn't allow me to go out nearly as often as it did in Europe.

As for others, good luck and post as you find good places or thoughts. SDGuerro put some solid places to check out. And as others have said, it's great in many regards, but does disappoint in other key areas. This place is a police state, but it seems america in general is going that way compared to how most of Europe is. It's truly a shame. Again, never went to Miami.
