How's the tolerance for guys in their 40's with girls in their 20's there?

What if you have a lot of credentials...various graduate science degrees etc. Are there opportunities to leverage those into something aside from ESL?

ooops sorry misunderstood the question. Um... its possible sure... you're asking the wrong guy about that though. Usually everyone starts in ESL and does all their groundwork from here. Some people get into EXPAT jobs but you have to get setup here first, if you go through a school to do it, they will arrange your work visa and give you a solid foundation to start with. On your weekends you could bounce around to different companies, hand out resumes and make contacts. I know a few people who did that in Nanjing and are making around 50,000 rmb/month. I don't know what they do out there though, just remember, you are competing with millions of people more qualified than yourself. The Chinese work force is simply insane. They have more people in my current city than half of Canada.
That being said, ESL extends into Japan, Vietnam, Korea....every country in the world where English is not the 1st language. You would probably have a better time, anywhere else trying to land a job. Lots of asian countries that can use a guy with science degrees... Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam...

Do you know if there are any opportunities for spanish teachers? I am not an english native speaker, although i do understand it very well (110 in TOEFL), but i would prefer to teach my native language (spanish).
Send out some resumes, you never know. You might be able to work in Guangzhou or Shanghai doing trade or something?

badwolf how much chinese do you speak? if yes, can you speak to how it was learning it, how many characters can you read. how necessary is it to speak it. i have been looking into doing esl in china but the language seems really hard and i doubt my ability to be fluent in it. thanks for any thoughts

I don't know why he got banned. there are bunch of guys like him on travel section.
I agree it should be better for certain individuals to leave the states when an average american girl (5~6) isn't giving him a chance.
