I use nothing but Asus. The build is generally pretty good quality and it runs whatever I put on it.

last one was a toshiba, got offered a new Asus.

don't see the point in being "brand loyal". I buy what's good cheap and with good reviews.

I previously had a generic computer for about 10 years. It ran pretty well for about 6 years but due to certain software I installed from family without ownership of the cd started to internally destroy my computer when the software kept prompting me to reinstall. I have been using an e-machines computer for about 6 months now. Pretty basic computer with plenty of speed and memory, no complaints so far.

Bought an Acer after that. The keyboard wasn't good (things got trapped in it easily) and it would overheat easily. I was not satisfied.

Yeah, that's really the only issue I have with my CQ60. The overheating bit. After about an hour or two of use the fans will kick into high gear and I'll either need to put it to sleep for a bit or allow the venting on the bottom to hang off the edge of the table for improved airflow. Then it's fine after 10-15 minutes. For $350 it isn't a dealbreaker for me though. The Apple MacBook I use as a backup (4 years old) doesn't have this issue, but the magnetic charging port is all fucked up.

Interesting responses. Despite just having a general curiosity, I was curious how much the Apple-laptop ascendancy had penetrated the RVF, or whether it was merely a phenomenon among the hipster, SWPL circles that I periodically observe. It's surprisingly consistent, with a whopping 27 percent of the total respondents at current count.

Incidentally, I had Dell desktops for most of my computing life, but have cycled through various laptops in recent years. I would never buy a Mac computer, but own an iPad that was given to me.

Incidentally, someone should forward this thread to Acer so that they realize that their cooling problems are costing them customers.

Wow. Lot's of people with money here to throw at Apple for their overpriced computers.

Previously I had a HP, and before that a Fujitsu-Siemans. Now have a Toshiba, which is great in terms of performance at it's price, but the case seems very fragile. I have to be very careful not to throw my laptop bag around, otherwise I'm afraid it will break.

I used to have an Acer netbook that worked pretty well for about a year. Then the keyboard wiring must have started shorting out, because the keys stopped working. I ended up destroying it with a sledgehammer in my front yard one night in a drunken rage.

Right now I'm using a Dell tower that I bought on Craigslist. Wiped the hard drive and installed Windows 7. Had it for a few months now.

My primary machine now is a MBP. Primarily because when I bought it, nothing compared in build quality for the same $ at the time. Now, things are pretty close and Win8 is actually pretty cool esp. with touch screen.

Anyhow - on a tangent. All you people with Laptops and Smartphones/Tablets - I highly recommend you install http://preyproject.com/ on it. It's free for up to 5 devices and helps you track shit down in case of lost/stolen. Worst case scenario - you can wipe the device remotely.

Key Point. Make sure you leave a Guest account access on the device so potential thieves/finders can log in easily so you can track with quickness.
