Will the Porn Industry leave LA?

Measure B was passed in LA County. It requires the use of condoms (among other things) on all shoots in LA County. The porn industry was threatening to leave LA if it passed. Well, it passed.

Will the porn industry leave LA for Vegas or Miami?

Here is an article about their attempt to overturn the law:

From all I've read in mainstream media it seems to have already been glancing at Vegas. Given that it's sin city to begin with, the climate and proximity to Vegas it's a very good fit. California pushed a money generating industry into Nevada.

All the major studios (Vivid, Wicked, etc) and the talent agencies (LA Direct, etc) are located in Los Angeles.

Not to mention that filming porn is illegal (considered prostitution) in all states except California and New Hampshire.

Although, prostitution is legal in Nevada in the rural areas, so I guess they could move everything there.

Yes it will definitely leave LA. This same shit has happened a few times in the past and it's a killer for the porn business. Nobody wants to watch porn stars wearing condoms. It seems LA and California in general are happy to encourage all sources of their revenue to exit the state. Progressive logic = Hamster logic

A mass exodus to Vegas could be a great opportunity for them to expand their revenue streams in the age of piracy and tube sites.

Open a few strip clubs that feature the porn stars.

Get a porn-star themed brothel or two going.

Hell, they could probably sell tickets to live porn shoots and have their own little porno theater show every day.

Sin City would be perfect.

Guys go there for vice. Give it to them.

^ Good ideas. Porn star themed strip clubs and brothels would be a huge money maker. Plus, lot of porn hoes strip and hook on the side anyways, so it would just make it more convenient for them.

I don't think the business itself will leave here. But the shooting will take place in one of the neighboring counties. This law doesn't effect all of California, just LA county. Plus how do you even enforce this? Have cops standing there watching to make sure the guy puts on a rubber? If the shoot takes place indoors in someone's house who is going to know what county it was produced?

The whole law is stupid. This is supposedly to protect the workers from STDs. Well nobody is forcing them to that for a living. What about all the girls out there you meet in the field that will let you hit it raw. Why don't we pass an ordinance making it illegal to have a ONS without a condom too??

It's funny that even during a huge economic downturn, people will find ways of forcing the government to stop economic activity from happening.

^From the above article:

"In addition to mandating condoms, it will require porn producers to apply for a permit from the LA County Department of Public Health to shoot sex scenes. The fee will finance periodic inspections of porn filming, and violations will be subject to civil fines and criminal misdemeanor charges."

So I guess it will be like the health inspections that tattoo shops have to undergo.

Also, I used to live in LA County, and I wouldn't be surprised if one day a measure passed that required anyone who has a ONS in California to be required to wear a condom. Stranger things have happened and just about any yahoo can put something on the California ballot if they get the required # of signatures, so don't even joke about that.

Except you already have. Because stage condoms aren't visible on film.

Except the porn stars themselves. Who are the one's filing the unsafe workplace complaints with OSHA, and who are behind this measure. (Which is merely Cal OSHA's already existing wording, and has already been in enforcement for the entire state under OSHA's agents.)

And except Cal OSHA, which is the agency charged with responding to these complaints. And which already has multiple porn companies in California that are compliant with Cal OSHA workplace rules, and no one's noticed. Because stage condoms aren't noticeable on film.

Cal OSHA has to walk a fine line between being a stuffy government agency and speaking plainly to the sex worker industry. Can you really see any other state's government agency having this kind of web page? http://www.dir.ca.gov/dosh/adultfilmindustry.html

And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

No. The outlying Counties will reap the rewards. Some Studios have even moved to the Bay Area already as they knew this measure would pass.

The most logical answer if LA doesn't want the industry is to have Las Vegas set up as the Western porn hub, and have Miami continue to revamp its Eastern porn hub. MIA is home to some pretty solid operations already.

What makes Miami-Dade County so special? What loopholes and legalities make it so appalling? Just a general question because it's not the weather as it rains a ton in Miami so what is it?

I don't see Vegas being such an oasis. Vegas/Nevada sets up huge bureaucracies to look over thier "bad" sectors of the economy. It would just be more hassle for companies to set up shop then to just move an hour or two out of LA County. I see no benefits to Vegas.

My local ACLU chapter dropped the funding for our campaign to close Guantanamo Bay so that we could oppose this measure.

I'm outraged and I refuse to watch condom porn. What is America coming to?

In all seriousness though: On one hand, porn with condoms is pretty lame. On the other hand, Porn is seriously entrenched in LA and it would take a lot for it to leave. If I had to guess, I would say this might be enough.

Porn is increasingly moving into the amateur, homemade sector anyway. This may serve to further fragment it, by spreading it out geographically.

The porn-viewing public doesn't want to watch porn with condoms, otherwise such porn would have been mass produced for years now.

The public developed a penchant for anal sex, now it's hard to find a porn where the dude doesn't stick it in the girl's ass for a little while. The public used to want to see the man come, now creampie porn is all the rage and there's a ton of it. There's never been a huge desire to see porn with the man wearing a condom.

That said, if LA County is restricting the production of content that consumers want, they can't be surprised when the porn film industry packs up and leaves. I'd say that this is the straw that broke the camel's back.

I believe some studios started shooting stuff with condoms years ago. When homie is ready to pop, he'd pull out, yank off the jimmy and fire away. I do think mandatory condoms would hurt the product though, so they'd need to shoot elsewhere and return the footage to their LA county studios for editing and packaging. I don't think it's necessary for them to move their entire operations out of the state. I know they have the AVN Awards in Vegas a lot (I was out there one year when they had it at the Palms), and me and my boys were trying to finagle an invite to a party or two. We though we had an in with a chick we met at one of the lobby bars, but the bitch flaked out after exchanging a few texts.
