I've never been to South or Central America. Mexico might be fine, too. I'm trying to figure out somewhere to chill in May for about nine days.

What's a good *chill* one or two city/town trip? I don't mind eye candy, but I really don't care much about nightlife this go round, which seems to be a major focus here. I like good architecture, art museums, and maybe some live music.

The idea is to unwind somewhere aesthetically nice and interesting. I'll walk around a lot, and work a couple hours a day on the laptop.

If decent hotel rooms can be had for less than $100 USD I'd probably do that over hostels.

I have respectably functional high school Spanish, though not really conversational. I struggle with accents, but I've successfully sorted things out in Spanish a dozen times, and would like to practice. So I'm a little disinclined to Brazil, but could be convinced.

Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta if you don't want to get too far from home. Guadalajara has pretty hot girls I hear. Puerto Vallarta is a nice, chill little beach town about 6 hours by bus I think.

Valparaiso, Chile is nice city to relax in and also has a beach nearby. Not sure how much damage it has sustained in the earthquake though.

Puerto Vallarta?

You got to be fucking kidding me!!!

I was there two weeks ago. If you want to be surrounded by retirement age canadians and americans and listen to cheesy pop songs from the 80s, great. Otherwise forget it.

Guadalajara is cool. Got laid my first and second night there by two mexican chicks. Nice town. Lots of beatiful buildings and cute girls.

Recommended. Also would recommend Buenos Aires.

Forget a second city. For 9 days, pick one city. Chill there and maybe do some day trips from there.

Lumiere, break down a thread on Guadalajara.

I think I will be going there this year.

I didn't see all that. I rented a condo with some friends near La Zona Rosa, drank margaritas on the beach, went to a salsa club(with only locals) as well as hiphop club, snorkled and jet skied. If you are in the hotel district on the north where it's isolated from the old part of town, I could see it being midwestern older crowd, but I didn't stay there, I stayed in the old district and got a condo. Only thing I noticed is that there's a big gay scene, but that's easily ignored. Anyway, the OP said he wanted somewhere to relax and PV is a great place to relax.

not sure if i can say too much about the nightlife

laid a local girl on my first night

laid another on my second night

both from internet game

spent the rest of the time banging both

did some day game

did not set foot in a club the whole time i was there because those two, between them, kept me busy every night

Gotcha.

Sounds like that Internet Game is really paying dividends.

Lumiere, what site did you use? And how long did you join it and email them before you headed down?

Also, I'm sure many girls aren't going to be interested in screwing a gringo who they know is just coming down on vacation and will be gone in a few days. So when you hit them up online, how did you frame it so as not to trigger that reaction?
