What's wrong with my arm?

What's wrong with my arm?

Okay I have a weird problem with pain in my left arm.

If I carry a grocery bag with my left arm (or anything else with even light weight like my Kindle), I get a sharp pain around the elbow area when I release the item and bend my arm more than 90 degrees. And if I keep my arm bent for a long time, I also get that pain if I flex it completely straight. There is minor pain when moving it through the full range of motion, even if I don't carry anything, always around the elbow.

The pain is around the elbow area (not bicep or tricep). It started randomly, more than a week after I last worked out. My right arm is fine. It has lasted for 2 weeks.

Could be a mild case of Tennis elbow, I have a similar problem and it has forced me to change my gym workouts.

Is the pain on the inside where the arm bends, or on the other side where it is pointy?

Mostly on the inside.

If its a dull pain i would think tennis elbow maybe some ligaments pulling off the bone a bit from working biceps.

Sharper pain, maybe some nerve damage.

Two weeks is a while though.

****I am not a doctor ****

However, have you ever had numbness in the fingers?

I think you have cubital tunnel syndrome. Tennis elbow pain is on the outside.

I suggest you see a orthopedic-type doctor. I bet they give you a cortisone shot which they do for everything these days.

Aloha!

Cortisone only numbs the problem temporarily (few weeks at best). Visit an orthopedic specialist because this doesnt sound too good. Did you possibly hit your elbow with a significant amount of force a while back?

What's wrong with my arm?

I got the same pain in my left elbow earlier this year from going at it too hard with bench curls. Just started back in the gym and overexerted myself. I ended ordering some Icyhot type rubs, but the natural stuff from Badgers. Also grabbed a jar of.....fuck. It's the supplement that you take for joints when lifting heavy. Both helped, but it hurt. I had to stay off bicep curls for a couple weeks, and it killed working on multi-ton trucks. For this it took longer to heal, cause I never got any rest.

A friend told me not to totally extend the arm all the way down in bench curls, as that was probably what did it.

Is it an "electrical" pain similar to hitting your funny bone?

Or is it a dull aching pain?

If the latter, get some Traumeel. It worked on my elbow and a friend's elbow. Elbow pain is pretty common especially if you lift weights or do any sports.

I didn't hit it against anything. No pain in the fingers.

It's a dull ache, not an electric/sharpness. I'll see a doctor.

Knowing your hip to Starting Strength, 5x5 workouts, and the big barbell movements, I'd guess it's from heavy weightlifting.

Disadvantage with barbell training is it doesn't give joints, ligaments, cartilage, and soft tissue time to adjust to the muscle and strength gains. That's why all gym rat veterans have shoulder cuff and/or knee problems.

Give Convict Conditioning bodyweight exercises a cycle. Pushes range of motion to the max with only natural weight. (pushup variations and handstands will strengthen the shoulder joints)

It's a trigger point most likely. You can massage it out. Google "elbow trigger points"

Pschyosomatic.

Type A personalites get these sort of aches and pains. There is probably something your are avoiding having to deal with. The pain is a distraction.

It's probably from bench-pressing/dips and rolling your wrists improperly or putting on too much weight. I get this on occasion and it usually stems from my wrist bending due to improper stabilization or from trying to lift beyond my capacity. Use a wrist wrap and see if it makes a difference in the gym.

What's wrong with my arm?

I had a similar problem about a year ago. I bought a large cd strorage case and I had to put in about thirty screws manually and I developed sharp pains near my wrist and forearm up to my elbow. I found a brace with velcro that covered the forearm and wore it for about a month. I also used ice for thirty minutes every few hours. Pain went away and I never went to the doctor.

My buddy was once getting his physical done by a woman nurse, apparently there's some kind of hand-popping maneuver that can stop an erection cold in it's tracks. It's sort of underground for most nurses because there's a potential for injury.

Actually, silica might be a better supplementation option:

And once you've fully recovered, why not give resistance bands training a try?
