The Most Alpha Move or Biggest Cock Block

Have been listening to Beatles songs lately and saw one on you tube with the drummer Pete Best. What an unlucky bastard, him being so good looking and being replaced by good ole Ringo. That move was as Machiavellian(alpha) as they come by Lennon and McCartney. They knew that no one could touch them musically, but that Mr. Best would distract the female attention away from them.
Saw an interview with Pete Best on the David Letterman show and he was as cool and collected as a natural Alpha could be. Though they later went on to become ubber betas with women, there is no denying, in their youth, all the Beatles were alphas. Cockblock or pure Alpha move....in the eye of the beholder.

Pete Best was a shitty drummer. That's why they got rid of him.

He wasnt bad. On their 1st album George Martin didnt even let Ringo record. Think like an alpha monger and you will see where the true motivations lie.

If true, the management was probably the one who made that decision out of financial reasons.

the way either lennon or mccartney explained it was "best was a better drummer, but ringo was a better beatle." their claim was that they fired best because he was anti-social, would never hang out with the rest of the band, didn't like mugging for the press, that sort of thing. I seriously doubt that anyone in the band considered him a sexual threat. All the girls are going to flock to the drummer over the lead singers/songwriters? yeah ok.

You have to understand that when you are at that level, Alpha and beta melt away like the T-1000 at the end of terminator 2.

Those guys are outliers.

For most of what happens on this forum, it doesn't matter what they do.

John Lennon was madly in love with and married Yoko Ono, an unattractive, twice-divorced, no-talent disaster who, among other things, fucked up the band. Paul Mccartney married Heather Mills, a past-her-prime amputee, and 6 years later was divorce raped for £24.3 million.

The things discussed here, and in the manosphere more generally, matter for everyone.

Not liking the Beatles is like saying you don't like food, that's how mother fucking good they are. Every man needs food, water, shelter,a woman and the mother fucking White Album. You don't need anything else. Shit, link up some youtube vids showing bands who have recorded better albums then Abbey Road or Rubber Soul.

The Band.

But this kind of discussions usually lead nowhere. All members of The Band had that brilliant rock n roll vibe around them, especially in The Last Waltz (their filmed last concert). At one point, Ringo Starr joins them and he is basically dwarfed by their presence (same for Ronny Wood). Check it out.

Divorce raped for 24.3 million? Are you kidding me? McCartney was worth well over ten times that at the time of the divorce. That is obviously a ton of money, but ask any guy on the forum if they'd be willing to walk away from a marriage for less than 10 percent of their net worth and I guarantee a lot of hands would go up.

Get out of here. The Band were a novelty act. There was no innovation there or ground breaking ideas just an assortment of decent musicians.

I'm not going to say that what I listen to is objectively better than the Beatles, but at least it came from my generation.

As far as the food analogy, uh, the closest I can come to answering that analogy would be to say that different people have different tastes and I really never cared for the sound of the beatles or the rabid fans in my highschool/college who never shut up about them. It's sort of like me with sports, never really gave a shit about that, either. Right now I'm living in "Husker Territory" and it's a hellhole.

It was an Alpha move. But it was Alpha from the standpoint of Paul McCartney wanting to dominate the band -- and the world -- musically. John might have been the leader of the Beatles on a social level and in the media, since he was the best speaker. But Paul did the musical planning and arranging, as has been documented in countless books.

Best's drumming was so amateurish it was embarrassing. They were mostly using him because his mother, Mona, owned a club where they played. When they finally got a record deal after years of struggle (they were rejected literally everywhere) the producer said he would not use Best on the records.

That producer turned out to be George Martin, who shepherded the Beatles through some of the best music of the 20th century. After a rocky start, Martin came to rely on Ringo as the most dependable Beatle. In Mark Lewisohn's "Beatles Recording Sessions" book, he states that after listening to thousands of hours of Beatles takes, it was Ringo who most rarely caused a take to break down because of a mistake.

All that said, there was personal/sexual jealousy in the Beatles ranks but it was mostly directed from John to Paul, since Paul snared all the babes and got all the attention when he stepped on stage. It's doubtful Paul would have been too jealous of Pete Best because Paul apparently had more women than he could handle -- even before the Beatles were famous.

The scenario in the Paul vs. Pete battle is that Paul was a musical perfectionist. Best couldn't cut it, and that drove Paul crazy. As the Beatles progressed, George would start to drive Paul similarly crazy and starting with the "Help" album, Paul started playing lead guitar ("Ticket to Ride," "Another Girl"). Paul also played every lead guitar solo on the "Sgt. Pepper" album save one: the lead on "Fixing a Hole." Paul's musical domination of the band eventually drove even the laid back Ringo to quit temporarily in 1968 for being told how and what to play. More than Yoko it was a factor in their breakup. You can see the others wince in disgust when Paul starts giving musical direction in the "Let it Be" movie, after which George shoots back some sarcastic comments at him. A few days later George would quit. Heck, even the musicians in Wings bailed, telling the press they felt like they were turning into "McCartney-programmed robots."

For more details on Paul's musical Alpha-ness, read recording engineer Geoff Emerick's book "Here, There and Everywhere."

Totally. The Band is incredible. Their first three albums stand as among the best in rock. Hugely influential, esp. to today's indie rockers. And not just because of their beards -- haha.

Lennon was also banging his young secretary with yuko's permission. But I do despise that naked cuddle picture.

Rubber soul and revolver are without flaw. Looking threw you is a great brake up song, Norwegian wood is a great "what happens if you don't escalate" song, you end up sleeping in the bath! So many ground braking musical techniques. I have never heard of the band.

The Beatles make Motörhead's musical effort look like a child's.
