Trail mix of nuts, dried fruit and thin sliced biltong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biltong). Not ridiculously high in carbs if you are into paleo, but high enough to give you some energy when you're on the move. High in protein and fat.

I ate almost half a kg of biltong today, along with a stick of Droewors. Having SA heritage definitely has its benefits in the tasty food dept.

Yes, it definitely is tasty. Also, pretty much the perfect "paleo" food. Almost no carbs, high protein, and can be high fat depending. Doesn't need refrigeration. Producers and marketers have a great opportunity to promote this now with all the interest in paleo eating worldwide.

Like jerky, which it is somewhat similar to, it isn't cheap. But it's a dried, concentrated food, so you don't need that much of it.

The only time I eat these are when I'm on the go. I know both cookies and potato chips are to be avoided, but I am unable to find any snack that's cheaper, other than cashew nuts and peanuts (these two are obviously healthy). What do you people eat on the go?

Are trail mix and dried fruit really healthy though? Lots of conflicting opinions on this, with some "reseach" pointing out that dried fruit has a lot of sugar (thats not rocket science)

Vietnamese monks can get notoriously fat because they munch on nuts and dried fruits.

I snack a lot so this is important to know

I've started to bake peanut butter cookies at home. It takes 15 minutes to prepare, including the wait time. I don't add a bunch of unnecessary sugars like you find in the regular kind, just a minimal amount.

1 cup of peanut butter, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 egg. Mix. 325 degrees for 10 minutes and you're good to go.

While you'll have to be careful with the calories if you're trying to drop weight, they're not as bad as they may seem. Plenty of healthy fats, and some protein too.

I used to eat crap at work, chips whatever. The past couple months I haven't been doing this, I try to bring lunch and if I'm in a rush (wake up hungover dragging ass or whatever) I go to Subway and get something on whole grain bread.

I'm gonna have to buy new pants this week, amazing how much calories are in junk food. Just cutting out a bag of chips or cracker jacks etc and EVERYONE asks me if I'm losing weight.
