Nice little towns and villages to relax and decompress?

I'm getting a little tired of mega-cities and their noise, pollution, and crowds. Can anyone recommend some quiet little towns off the beaten path that is good to stay for a week or more? Preferably without a weekend crowd. It's okay if there are no girls or no hope of getting laid. I'm open to suggestions in Europe as well, particularly Spain or Italy.

I think I'm going to head to Minas Gerais after Rio and I hear there are a few there. Same for the Cordoba region of Argentina.

Siena in Tuscany and Amalfi in southern Italy are spectacular in beauty and there is a special aura around the places. Think; places where you just go for a walk, sit on a bench, drink an espresso with the locals. Gotta love it.

wow, this picture make me wanna leave for Amalfi right away:

Using the photo feature of google maps is a great way to find cool towns and places that you may not have known about(I even use this at home to find out about places to hike and mountain bike). You can just browse the map and click on any photo thumbnails that catch your eye. You'll find something for sure.

Using the photo overlay of the map, I just found this cool little town I'd never even heard of.

Roosh,

Check out Costa Brava and Pais Vasco in Spain. Easy to check out a few towns on the train and just post up on the one that strikes you.

Cadaques was good enough for Salvador Dali: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadaqu%C3%A9s

If this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...tiched.JPG and this http://www.ponti-nauti.com/includes/img/...s_gran.jpg isn't a good place to decompress, then I don't know what is. (The church is the biggest building in Cadaques).

Plus the art, food, lifestyle and wine will keep you entertained on the off chance that you grow weary of the natural and man made beauty there.

I have never been to Galicia, but I think that would be a real solid move. Great seafood from there. Arguably the best in the world.

Don't discount the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands or The Azores. You could practice your Portuguese on the latter.

Italy is full of them as well. This would be a good place to hang your hat: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanremo

You might also want to consider France. Basque country or the med.

All would be pretty "off-season" right now, and easy for a week or more. Hell, I have spent 3 and 4 month clips on coastal France and Spain. My only mistake was leaving.

France, Italy and Spain are literally chocked full of spots that would be perfect for you.

And believe it or not, in many of these small towns they haven't seen Americans too often.

Excellent question. I am going back to Spain in May, I think so hopefully I will be able to find it then.

I like the Atlantic coast of Spain and France, because you can surf but it gets cold in winter.

I really need to check southern spain on the med.

The little beach towns near Barcelona are pretty sick as well.

I like Alicante and Valencia, although I haven't been since I was like 16.

I guess I really do not have an answer for you.

It really depends on exactly what you are looking for, relaxation, partying, girls etc.

Here is another picture of Cadaques: http://www.ilorentz.org/~pjhdent/travels...daques.jpg

The church is the big building.

I wish I was there right now smoking a jack.

The Adriatiac coastal region of Croatia has a lot of little towns like this. I'm not sure if Zadar is bigger than what you're looking for (~90,000 people), but there are many towns in the region that are quite a bit smaller.

If you are in Brasil now, a cozy and very friendly place with adorable girls who are just flat out fun, and down-to-earth is Coiba!

Just pack up and go like I did - no plans, and just go....I was pleasantly surprised at what a true hidden gem Coiba is.

if you are looking for a beach place like Uruguay's Punta del este, but with ZERO tourists, and ZERO street vendors harassing the shit out of you - check out Belem!

Colombia:

My top places to take a girl to just relax and unwind:

Termales de Santa Rosa - 1 hour drive from Pereira.

http://www.hoteltermales.com

Or

http://www.sanvicente.com.co

Here you will find a collection of waterfalls, and hot springs, and mud baths by a professional masseuse!! aaahhhh

Villa de Leyva -- 2 hour drive from Bogota - very, very nice. There is a beautiful hacienda like hotel that just screams relax, and each room has a hammock for daytime siestas, an a backyard with a grille for outdoor cooking - very cool.

http://www.villadeleyva.com.co/contenido...oteles.htm

VillaVicencio -- Unwind and go horseback riding with a cutie!!

Cartago - If this place does not relax you, nothing will!!! Nothing do do but eat, drink sleep on the beach, and have sex if you like - nobody else is there!!!

Armenia - stay in a hotel called "Las Heliconias" wow - just breathtaking!! An you don't hear a single sound at night - except for your girl moaning as you have slow, and pleasurable sex like rabbits!

http://www.hotellasheliconias.net/

While there - visit a theme park of eje cafetero, and scream your lungs out and let it all out like a kid!!

It´s winter in Europe, so you won´t have many tourists walking around. The number of places are endless. Here´s a listing:
http://www.forbes.com/2009/09/03/europe-...de_11.html

A portuguese writer lives on an island called Lanzarote, Spain, I´ve personally never been there.

All the meditteranean destinations are very low on tourists (except the ski resorts).

In November I´ve been in a city in Germany called Baden-Baden that was a nice surprise considering what german cities normally have to offer
Like G recommended Azores it´s a beautiful island specially Faial. Madeira´s island is also good.

In Portugal you have a lot of places to chill. Spanish sometimes say they come to Portugal only to relax.

However I would choose Italy or Croatia, in Europe, for what your looking for.

Reminds me of scenes from 'The Postman,' a movie about Pablo Neruda escaping to an Italian fishing village.

Places like this are really easy to find, they are the big towns and small cities that you pass on the bus, or pass through in your travels. Some that I have come across, and decided to stay in were
Halstaat in Austria
San Marcos in Peru
Trenopil in Ukraine
La Libertad in El Salvador
Texasco in Guatemala

I banged 2 girls from Montenegro (separate occasions). 1 was a tourist, the other moved to Miami. They were very playful, and loved direct game. 1 I banged on the first date, the ladder that moved to Miami was banged on the 4th date. Don't know why she kept fighting me, but finally gave in! Beautiful girls. Don't know if I would get the same reaction in Montenegro - very curious.

Yeah, I've been to Montenegro. It's too cold to go there until March at least. In summer time, It's filled with serbians from Belgrade. But that's bound to change, as they just received "liberty" through the gift of visa-free travel rights to all of the EU states.

To someone coming from America, the place resembles the Croatian coast. But it's less commercial, with less crowds and with dirtier beaches. But this, I assume, is quickly changing. The girls are great, just like serbs but even taller.

The trick in Montenegro is to city hop until you find something you like. I personally avoid Budva.

I misspelled the city - sorry. It's actually called "CUIABA", in the state of Mato Grosso.

Belem and Pernambuco on the Northern Coastlines are a lot better than Rio IMO, and get very little attention from tourists - which makes you sir, a huge novelty.
