Hey fellas, I'm new here in the fact that I'm just starting to post, but I been passing through to check this forum and Roosh's blog posts for awhile now.

I am 24 years old, a full time student/Army Vet who is now getting paid by the VA to go to school. I'm gonna start my junior year at Hunter College in Manhattan this fall, but for now I'm finishing up Community College out in Allentown, PA.

I have been around soaking in the sights (while pulling hotties of course) for awhile now...I was just living in Lima from September to mid-December...went to Cartegena last July...spent a week with a wonderful young lady in Panama City last May...did Lima/Cuzco/Arequipa last January...San Jose, Costa Rica last August 08...and spent a year in the Middle East back in 06.

Right now, I'm chilling with family in the Poconos until early March, when I plan to go back to South America to continue improving my Spanish skills until late May. Last time I was in SA, I was living okay in Lima on $1,300 a month, studied Spanish, trained physically, rented an apartment in someones house in Miraflores, made a couple cool local friends, and banged more than a few chicks. Good time.

This trip, I will now have roughly $2,500 a month, I know for a fact can painlessly just go back to Lima, this time cop a furnished apartment and live like before, only with more money and connections than when I started last time...but another part of me really wants to branch out and try something new...

I'm thinking a lot about Cali and Pereira in Colombia. Medellin sounds great too, but it sounds like its starting getting all back packer/whore mongerered out.

I'm really interested in Pereira and Cali though, can anybody here tell me anything about these places? Would it be a good investment of my time and money to spend 2 1/2 months there at $2,500 a month? How well could I live in those cities? How do they compare to Lima?

Also, what are the chicks like in Cali and Pereira, racially and culture wise. Im under the impression that Pereria is more mestiza type chicks and Cali is more mixed with an African influence, is this it or what? Do they dance salsa a lot in Pereira, or is it mostly those bars with no dance floors where everyone sits around at tables in big groups and drinks beer? Any clubs?

Where would be the good places to live and meet young local people in these cities, where are the universities? One of the online classes I am taking is Spanish Intermedio 2, but I could always supplement that with some classes or tutoring at a cool local university, this would also give me more access to normal local chicks. What universities would be good for that?

I know its all a WHOLE lot to chew on but any educated advice would be greatly appreicated.

Armanid27, you really did a great job giving me the rundown and I appreciate it greatly.

I'm going to ask you to help me more a little more with this, because you appear to really know what you are talking about. I'm going to ask some specific questions that expand upon the information you have already given me. Trust me, I would get this stuff from research alone if I could, but theres not a whole lot of info around on the internet on Cali and especially Pereira, as opposed to some other more traveled destinations. And who knows, maybe this info will also help someone else. If I ever get a chance up the road, I'll def pour a few drinks your way to show my gratitude.

Its now definitly a tough choice to make between Lima, Peru and Pereira/Cali, Colombia.

As far as the pluses for Lima goes, I already know my way around and where to go for things I want/need for a price where I won't get ripped off for being an Estado Unidense. I also already have some friends there so I wont really have to go way out of my way to meet new friends, I get invited to parties where I get introduced. There are plenty of hot chicks around, I think Peru really gets overlooked when it comes to the beauty of its women but living in Lima really lets it be known. The middle class Lima chicks don't really look all that differnt from mestizas from Colombia, although I will say that the really indigenous looking Peruanas are often less attractive. I would say Peruvian women are generally timid but usually open easily once cold approached. I may have had like 2 negative reactions (blowouts) out of 70 something cold approaches, and I barely speak spanish.

For me, Lima's a sure thing, there are a few negative parts about it, but I'm not even going to bother mentioning them here because I dont have the time. The biggest minus would be that I've been there, and done that. I like the place, but going there again would keep me from other places I may like more.

One of the biggest pluses for Colombia is the fact that I will have options. I can fly into Medellin and see how I like it there, then I can go from there to Pereira see how I like it and then check out Cali. Finally, I can decide where exactly I want to stay for the remainder of my time.
I also get the feeling that the Colombianas are, on average, even more attractive than the women in Peru. I also think they are a little more forward, less conservative.

The negative is that I will be coming into it with no social circle, nobody to turn to if things go wrong for me and no idea how to get to the things I need/want. These are things that I probably can figure out though research and asking guys with knowledge, like you. I have come to find that the best way to meet and socialize with "normal" local people is to have a "purpose" of some kind for being there. Going out at night is great too, but tends to be less reliable as far as meeting trustworthy people goes.

My simple stated purpose for being there will be to learn Spanish. I will be trying tighten up my salsa game big time while I'm down there, like take classes and all. I will also be looking to practice MMA or at least boxing. Of course I will be taking 12 credits online as well, so that will take up some of my time...but 1 of those classes is Spanish anyway.

When I choose a place to live, I place a HUGE value on logistics, in other words, location proximity to things I want/need. Even more so for my postion, a semi-spanish speaking foreign dude who doesnt have a car.

I like to have resturants/cool things to do within walking distance of my place, it makes laying a girl on the first date smoother. Ditto for same night lays out of a bar/club, it happens easiest in venue near by home. When I can say "hey, my place is 5 minutes from here, lets go check out those pictures of (insert cool thing here)", living close by makes life easier on both me (I want to fuck) and her (she wants to fuck, but cant go out of her way to show it). Of course there is always bathroom pulls, but I still dont have that down...yet

1. What university would be the best to check out in for the spanish/local social scene?
If it is not near Pinares, how is the area around earlier stated university? I wouldnt mind living near there, even if its not in the glitzy area, as long as it has some nightlife around and the neighborhood is middle class.

2. Is Pinares centrally located? Are there stores/bars/discos in walking distance? Malls close by?

3. I noticed it seems like you are pushing for day game in the malls as the best bet there, is there any reason for that? Is it because the good bars/clubs are mostly filled with tight mixed groups that make it harder to pickup from cold approach?

4. Is there any MMA/Boxing gyms around Pinares or the earlier stated university? I know they Box on the coast, but I dont know much about the coffee region.

Both of these are not within walking distance of Pinares, but Pereira is a relatively small city compared to Lima, and a cab anywhere will avg about 3.00USD! I rarely went above 8.00USD.

I don't know about living there around the University, but - here's an idea: swoop a local college girl, and make it a date for her to help you apt. hunting! They will be very happy to share this and help you accomplish this. The problem is that you will not be able to get her meat hooks off you! So, I hope you're good at hiding from the enemy! :-) These girls are like snipers - watch out!

2. Is Pinares centrally located? Are there stores/bars/discos in walking distance? Malls close by?

-- It is near all malls, cafe etc you will be wandering around for during day game. A 4.00USD cab ride gets you very far! However, feel free to pick a place for 1 week, until you find a more suitable place that a local girl will surely love to help you find, and baptize! :-)

-- Day game is definitely the easiest option - Night game is too, but all women go out in Mixed sets at night, and usually in groups of 3 or more! So, at night, unless you are already part of her "crew", you will have the barrier of winning the guy(s) in the group first. A good way to win a guy in a mixed set, is to express your interest in Soccer!! It is a surefire way in!! Then buy him a shot of aguardiente/beer - you're in! ** Umm, I only stayed in Granada - so, you will have to apply the same rule here as you did Pereira, stay at a place for 1 week - and get a local hottie Calena to help you find a place - they are really good at this! and it helps build a bond between you and her! Cali has universities/colleges EVERYWHERE!!! To many too list! so, again - best bet to find what you are looking for is to grab a hottie calena, and have her take you to places that you may like - tell her you want to enroll in some classes to enrich your lifestyle and language - she will value you for it that much more...


Lastly, you mentioned needing a reason for being there - and here is the best one I have used.

You worked for Acme corp. back home, and after 2 years of 9-5, you were offered the opportunity to study abroad, so that you can eventually get a promotion running a branch in Latin America - hence you are working remotely to learn Spanish at the best country in Latin America <insert country you are visiting here>. Anything along the lines of you are paid to be there by your company back home works like a charm!

You can always change your story - to suit the girl you are with. If its a 1 night stand, you know you do not want to see again - tell her anything. If its a girl you like, and you'll get many of these, then enhance your story as not to make it seem that the real reason you are there is to score on local senoritas!

Yea, believe it or not, my main mission of going down there actually is to study Latin American language and culture. Latinos are the largest minority group in the States (and growing), so thoroughly knowing the ins and outs will be a good look for any young American cat who wants do something big in the future.

I mean, I grew up with some of my closest friends being Boricua and I chill with some Dominican dudes now, pero en realidad, the Caribbean street Spanglish one learns cooling in the barbershop is looked down upon by "well to do" main-land Latin Americans. I cant roll to a business meeting or something official and say "oye chamaquito, que lo que hay? como tu esta", but thats pretty much all Im going to be exposed to in my part of the East Coast. I gotta say though, that talk does help my Americano ass to pull Latinas quicker...lol they're always like "oye daddy yankee, donde aprediste espanol?".

As far learning Spanish goes though, I choose nothern South America to study precisely because they have one of the most neutral tongues when it comes to Spanish. In my opinion, they talk kind of elegant, and I like that, so immersing myself is the best way to get with it.

Nacirema, and whomever is planning a trip to Colombia this month. Be warned, the week of March 29TH is known as "semana santa" or Easter week until April 4th, 2010. Thsi feast last every year about 5 days, starting on March 31 thru April 4th, 2010.

This is a week where everyone (especially highly sought after hot women) leave the city, to vacation in Fincas/ranches/lake houses/beaches. All major cities are ghost towns - literally speaking. The only thing you will see are tumbleweeds in all of Cali, Medellin, Pereira and Bogota!

Cartagena is at its peak Easter week, and prices double.

Semana santa is known to us as Easter, but unlike Americans, Colombians really use this time to go away on vacation and party in Cartagena and along the coast of Colombia and San Andres. For cities like Cali that are far south, womn usually make plans with a guy to go to Santa Martha or some beach town along the coast!

Pereira has always been the underdog in Colombia. It is an industrial city with not much to do but chase women and smoke weed if that's your thing.

Just thought I'd do a quick update on this one as I'm in Pereira at the moment. I also saw a comment on another thread where somebody commented about not seeing any hot women - I think maybe he had the same problems that I did.

Return to base camp.

I stayed at Gran hotel which is not bad you can get a room online for 120 mil. The room is much nicer than it looks in the pictures.

Ok so looking at Mixx's posts I want to hit up the two malls he mentioned. I google and google but really I don't have any luck in finding them. I have a quick look at my guidebook and it mentions the main mall is at Plaza Bolivar, I'm just round the corner so I head out there - this is not great so I'm sure this can't be it. I've been here once before when I stayed with a girl but that wasn't in the center. I remember we went to another mall that looks out over a big plaza, I'm thinking this must be the place that Mixx is talking about but how to get there...?

I ask a few people in my crappy Spanish for either of the two malls Mixx listed but no luck, eventually I return to base camp google it and find it close by on calle 17, the mall is called Cuidad Vitorio Centro Commercial. It has centro in the name so maybe this is it?

I head out to this mall and take a walk around it's quite empty, maybe it's early? I grab some food, wander around a little more, start to nod off, grab a coffee and listen to some Spanish on my iphone. Eventually I think this can't be it and, you guessed it, I head back to base camp.

Here I do some more googling and eventually I google Pizza Piccolo - success, I've managed to find one of the places listed. This is on calle 13 close to Club Del Comercio which I think may be one of these fabled malls but it's actually a sports club.

I walk up this way burning some more shoe leather and I can see it's getting nicer with more bars around and some coffee shops, I find a big mall on the left hand side, I can't remember the name of it but it's neither of the two Mixx places listed, it's much more upscale and a lot busier. I also see a few hot girls around, I don't actually see any girls solo, they're all with somebody so I don't approach any girls - by this time it is getting later and the place is starting to die down so yep back to base camp!!

I did have an online girl who was keen to meet which is why I'd decided to stop off here, I called her up during the day she said yes she's free but is with her hijo, is that a problem...?

So all in all not a very successful Pereira trip (I'm taking off today) but maybe this will help anyone else who decides to stop off here.

PR/DR is the Caribbean, so your closest bet would be Barranquilla. Those are the friendliest girls in Colombia, albeit not the most beautiful when compared to other Colombian cities, but definitely what you are looking for.

Cali has definitely changed over the last 15 years since i first visited, the city itself is ugly, boring and very unorganized, but you can definitely find afro-Mixx mulattas there who are easy to fuck. Remember to be an approach machine, girls will not approach you even if they like you.
