So is asking a girl for directions now a crime?
09-16-2012, 07:12 PM
I live in a college town. I'm an almunus at the local college and graduated a couple years back.
Over the last couple days I hit up the campus with a buddy at the school to meet new girls. I'd ask for directions to a building, flirt for a few minutes, ask for their number, and text them later Paul Janka style. I got a dozen numbers and a few dates lined up this way. I day gamed at the campus earlier in the summer as well using the same approach.
I got a call this morning from Campus Police. They say they want me to come in to meet with them. I asked him what was the issue. He said something about talking to girls on campus for directions to a particular building over the course of several months. Somehow the guy even knew I was an alumnus and even had my home address. They must have traced my number in the alumni database as I'd donated to the school before and got my personal details this way. The guy even threatened that they'd come find me on my street if I didn't come in to meet for trespassing.
I suspect one of the girls I closed earlier snitched on me. I recall approaching a girl last week, and while talking to her I received a couple texts from another girl ("Did she show you the way" "Should i start creeping the creeper"). I didn't respond to the texts as I didn't remember who it was. I later realized that it was a girl who I had number-closed earlier in the summer (never ended up meeting with her as she eventually stopped responding to my texts). She must have been in the vicinity and overheard me ask for directions to the same building and reported me to campus police that day. FML.
Does campus police have jurisdiction beyond campus? Do they have legal grounds for arrest? I had no idea that asking a girl for directions is a crime. Rest assured, I will not be going back there again.
I talked to a friend and he advised that I seek legal counsel.

This is truly fucked up. However, I wouldn't worry. I'm not a lawyer, but I can't see how they would have grounds for anything at all. Tell them to suck your dick and that you will not be donating to the school anymore. Def don't meet them. Just don't go there anymore, that's all.

To be fair, I completely understand why someone would find it creepy that a guy camps at a certain location asking for directions girl after girl. Hope you don't get into trouble for it, though.

I advise you to throw yourself on their mercy and request a body cavity search. Just kidding.
Unfortunately there are creepy beta stalker dudes who harrass women on campus. Campus police would be negligent if they didn't follow up. Imagine if they ignored a report and the guy subsequently got violent.
You haven't done anything remotely illegal. Of course they will ask you to come in while they are getting paid to eat donuts. Just ignore them. The cop is just bluffing and is too lazy to find you. If you were bored and antagonistic then you could even insult the campus cops, because they can't do much.
At worst they could probably try to find you, issue an official trespass warning, then find you on campus, tell you to leave, and arrest you if you didn't leave. You could then probably plea bargain and pay a small fine. Whatever you do, don't say anything. You might implicate yourself, or they will misremember/lie about the conversation. For example, imagine they ask you whether you were on campus on a particular day, and you agree. Then it turns out there was a sexual assault by someone fitting your description. It could be extremely costly. Just politely tell them you don't talk to police without a lawyer and hang up. They have no right to waste your time based on some paranoid jealous rejected girl's story.

Your fine. If they are calling you in to talk to you that means they don't have shit. It is the same for the police. If they ever call one of you to come down for a chat do not go. Talk to a lawyer before you do anything and if you go down be sure to bring him with you.
If they were going to arrest you they would come to your house or work. They don't ask you to come down and meet with them if they want to arrest you.

This kind of stuff pisses me off and makes me want to devote my career to alleviating situations like this.

in the years immediately after I graduated from college, I used to register for a class, get a new student id, and then immediately drop the class so that I could still go the gym for free.
you may want to consider a similar approach if you need a legit reason for being on campus.

They can't do shit, frame it back to them that all you're doing is talking to people - women are just people and all you're doing is talking. Unless you've gone too far and got some women to call out harassment you don't need to worry.
In terms of trespassing, I'm not sure what the campus is like but there must be lots of parts in/around it that are public, especially if it's an urban campus, keep hitting those. If it comes to it, use the alumni fact as a reason for being there - meeting up with old lecturers etc

Hate to say this but you had it coming. You obviously were not interested in directions and anyone who have overheard you asking for directions from multiple girls will find you fishy and creepy, girls or guys. Now you look like a prototypical Ted Bundy. Time to bring your operation to a different campus.

Police can do anything they fucking want.
A couple years ago I got arrested for telling a teacher to fuck off. Had a policy about showing up late to class. I showed up 30 seconds late, and she tried to mock me in front of the entire class. I told her "fuck you and your bullshit class." Got arrested for some absurd law like "disrupting the regular routine of an educational institution."
Cost me $500 and a lot of ass-kissing to the deans about how supposedly sorry I was.
BTW this is in the USA.
Moral of the story: dont fuck around, talk to a lawyer BEFORE going to meet the police. Don't lie to them, but don't tell them you were using a canned opener to pickup chicks either. LOL.

Godspeed.
1. Find out if you're within your legal rights and what you are able to do and how you can frame it.
2. If possible, go there even more and double your approaches.
If you don't do this, the terrorists have won.

It's bullshit that you got arrested for that. Kicked out of school? Sure, I could see that. But arrested? That's bullshit.
There is a law for EVERYTHING that can be broken for doing nothing. If they want to teach you lesson (the DA, the cops, the university, the landlord, etc), they will.
I ended up spending the night in jail, posting a $500 bond, then after countless hours of kissing ass, the school out of the kindness of its heart dropped the charge. No expulsion.

There are better alternatives than asking for directions. how about hanging out in the popular lunch spots and approaching/sitting down at a table, see about using the uni's gym as an alumnus for free, hanging out at the popular student coffee shops.
Lay low for awhile.

This is really odd. On one hand, it would appear you did absolutely nothing wrong. But on the other hand you could certainly come off as creepy or suspicious if you were overheard by the same people asking for directions time and time again. Some paranoid fuck probably got nervous and dropped a dime on your ass. I don't think you need a lawyer unless you're going to try and turn this around on the school. With that said I wouldn't go down to meet up with them, either. And don't lie about what you were doing. If they call you again about meeting them to talk things over just tell them talking to someone isn't illegal and see where that takes you. Don't be aggressive, insulting, or antagonistic though. At least not until you know you're in the clear.

If you can , avoid getting arrested at all costs. When you start getting more important jobs, or contracts with gubmint when you have your own biz ( gubmint spending suddenly seems OK when it's going to you) you will be explaining old arrests--even those where charges were dropped-- decades later. The FBI database never resets.
I've worked with law enforcement and licensing agencies for years, so I have personal experience with this.
Also, for instance you could never get a teaching visa to Korea-- any arrest disqualifies you.
That said, of course this is ridiculous, what about the "right of the people to freely assemble" in the constitution. Well, if a woman bitches at this particular point in history, you have no rights. The cops probably sympathize but have to kiss ass to keep their image up.
I wouldn't blow them off, but going without a lawyer might not be a good idea. Maybe to save expenses you could offer a conference call with them, you, and your lawyer as you are "very busy".
The lawyer will probably throw it back on them; asking why they are harassing you. But you have to be the lawyer to do that, if you do that you will be in a pissing match with a cop which you always lose.
Remember there were those campus shootings where the batshit crazy Korean guy killed a ton of people. They probably want to eyeball you and see if you look crazy, or are just gaming chicks. Also all Betas along with their fat wives hate players.

In an unfortunate way this is somewhat hilarious. I'd almost prefer you go meet up with those rent a cops to see what went down.
"Sir, would you say you made 30, 40, 50 approaches asking for directions? How many we talking here?"
LOL!

I hoped that this was self evident as were not in the noob section.
Thats part of the nature and evolution of the game, a personal journey of figuring out that mindlessly and repetitively asking for directions to a place you dont need directions to is a poor tactic.
Maybe it takes a 911 call to figure this out and try other things. I dont, however, recommend hanging up the towel b/c a couple ppl think you're a creep. I would take pride in it, and put it as a badge of honor of paying some dues by doing embarrassing and dumb shit.
It's how we learn, right? Trials and tribulations. I think he should confirm that he is within his rights and will not get arrested and go at it again, until he separates the bad tactics from the good ones, like the ones you mentioned. Just cos one bitch got mad.
This is noob shit though, and not "daygame". I would suggest dude to read more and be confident in himself and his intentions so he doesnt have to ask for directions. He should be asking for directions to her fucking dorm room am i right? I mean seriously were at a college campus for christ sake. CMON MAN. lol. But like I said everyone needs to learn their chops and if you get thrown in campus jail to figure out where you're fucking up, I say chalk it up to some valuable experience and a funny story.
Defer to noob portion of the forum.

LOL this is funny. Are campus police even real cops? If law enforcement wanted you for doing something illegal, they would already have you. Especially if you're in a small college town where there's no real crime. Fuck those Rent A Cops.

Hypesession, I think you need to defer to the noob forum. Asking for directions somewhere convincingly is a fine opener - remember that the first thing you say doesn't matter, it can be anything. Going from that first line and making a connection with the person is what matters.
